      Miranda Mason it’s just perlite and water. I try to show what’s the consistency for the water. The key is do not over water it. Moist enough to have condensation but no water retain at the bottom of container.

    • @olwynwilliams4675
      @olwynwilliams4675 Před 3 lety +5

      There's no way to tissue culture albos, they haven't been able to replicate the genetic mutation that makes them have variegation. Thais are being tissue cultured by Costas and are going to be about $50-100, still not super cheap. I don't think albos are ever going to be super cheap just because variegation is unstable and hard to propagate on a large scale. I do know quite a few nurseries are building up propagations to sell but they'll still be expensive, they're holding them back so price doesn't decrease and releasing slowly to make as much money as possible.

    So I got a rooted plant today, one leave, one very long aereal node. I’m new to all of this. What is the aereal node for? Almost feels like a stick lol. Is that used to prop up the plant? And there is a part that was cut off by the seller I’m sure for propagation, but will I get a leaf coming out of there? Or from the base of the plant. I know I sound silly but I literally have no idea lol!

    • @EricDragomir17
      @EricDragomir17 Před 4 lety

      Yeah the aerial nodes would naturally try to like hug around trees to stabilize itself and such . As for the cut off part it depends on if it has the little bump I think ? That’s where I think the leafs come out

    • @Elvykiung
      @Elvykiung  Před 3 lety +1

      aerial root and node is different part. The aerial root is supplemental root system to help climb and absorb n nutrition. Node is where the grow point for the new leaf at. You can grow the plant without aerial root but you can not get new plant if the node is cut off. The node is look like a bump :)

    Hi Elvy! HELP LOL I've been searching on how to properly propagate a Monstera Albo cutting with 2 leaves. After I watched this video, I tried this method but mine already rotted twice. On my 2nd try I applied candle wax on where the cut was but it still rotted. I'm on my last and closest cut to it's remaining node. What should I do? I'm drying it's fresh wound for 24hrs. and applied cinnamon on it in hopes it'll not catch any infection and stop it's rotting. Tomorrow I can try again but Please help me on what should I do next or what changes should I do to make it do better in perlite. I'm so scared it'll rot again on me and eventually reach the node. 😭

      tbh, summer is not good for me too 😭. I can definitely feel your pain. I have couple that doing like that, mainly is the one super varigated albo. The way I do is let it dry out completely like over 2-3 days but some of them just continues rot even without water. You can try rub the cut with the red onions, I saw it some grower did that in Asia, I try it myself, I think this make the cut dry faster and kill the bacterial. Hope this may help 😭

      Elvy Kiung Hello! Thanks for responding, I really appreciate it. So today is the 3rd day since I propagated it back to perlite, for it’s 3rd time/try. So far it hasn’t shown any rotting, which makes me really happy, BUT I’m still scared. Maybe I’ll start to feel completely fine when I see some roots start to show up on it’s node. I propped it in a glass jar where I could see it’s bottom stem and node easily through the glass and I’ve been checking it everyday as I say my prayers 🙏🏼🤍. It’s a more balanced variegation, leaf & stem, which is really a great cutting for my first Monstera Borsigiana Albo, that’s why I’m really nervous, anxious and really hoping it’ll take roots. Just can’t afford another one if this will die on me. 💸🛒😭 This is still my #1 wishlist plant and it has been a struggle as it arrived to me with rotted aerial roots that I chopped off immediately prior to propagation. BTW I also covered the top opening of the jar with saran wrap, will that be fine you think, or should I just leave it open? I place it under grow lights 12hrs/day and close to a humidifier. Please pray for it to survive as well as to myself 🥺 LOL or maybe you can share some of your propagated cuttings to me? 🙊 HAHA I wishH!! Well anyway I’ll keep updating you if you don’t mind? It would help me feel better with your guidance, coz you’re like the ‘Monstera Albo Queen Fairy’ 🧚🏼 🏹💚

    Hi Elvy, I’m confused about aerial roots. You say you don’t need them, but isn’t that where the new roots come from? If you don’t have one, where do the roots grow from...the node? So if you are propagating a stem with both a node and an aerial root, where will the new roots come from? I always thought it came from the aerial root only. I’m asking because I am currently getting ready to chop and prop my albo. I was waiting for the top node to develop an aerial root before I cut it but now I’m thinking I could go ahead and cut it since it does have a node. What do you think? I hope this made sense 😁

      I'll wait until two full green before I do the cut. Cut above the node where you see white on the stem as regular propagation. I'm not too worry about all white because the plant itself will take care of the green part latter on but it will be the same, after see two fully white, then cut at the node point where you see green. I saw an amazing half moon plant that produce full green on one side and half half on the other leave. :)

      The aerial root easy to rot no matter which method you are using. Aerial root is harder and usually mean to a supplement the plant. The point is to grow new root, new root that will either grow from the stems or the aerial root. The plant perfectly able to grow new root without aerial root :) I wont be worry if the aerial root rot, the most important is your stems.

      yes you can but it is not the best way since new root will grow from the stem, you want the stem to be moist to promote root grow. Aerial root is supplement on top of your regular root and aerial root easy to rot while it try to convert or grow new root :0
