  • Thanks for checking out our Creedence Clearwater Revival reaction. Bad Moon Rising is an interesting song that caught us by surprise. It's hard to pinpoint the location of the sound. The band is from Cali but they sound like if Louisiana and Florida had a baby.

To be fair, it is not exactly a cover song. The record label Motown Records had a couple writers write that song and made 2 of thier biggest artist at the time do the song. They were I THINK a year apart but neither Marvin or Fogerty write that one. Maybe it is still considered a cover in that regards but most people dont realize true origin of that song. They assume its a Marvin Gaye song exclusively. Both versions are undeniably good though haha love em

I was 19 when this was released. Being an old geezer does have advantages. In 1968 Curt Gentry published a book called "The Last Days of the Late, Great State of California." In it, Gentry posited the idea that a huge earthquake on the San Andreas Fault caused everything west of it to break off and slip into the Pacific. It seems to me that this idea was behind at least a part of Fogerty's writing "Bad Moon Rising."

Similar theme is "The End of the World As We Know It" by REM. Upbeat, happy tune about the end of the world. You might check it out! And to me a guitar solo is where the guitar is featured during a break in the lyrics. It doesn't preclude the other instruments from being played, it's just when there's no lyric. And the same can apply to any other instrument solo - saxophone, piano, whatever. You guys make me smile, love your reactions. Keep 'em coming!

Your reactiion was great fun "Bad Moon Rising" comes from World War II when the German U boats could use the light of the full moon to torpedo cargo ships in the convoy. This was a Vietnam War song and very appropriate lyrics for those times when the moon made night attacks possible. The upbeat music is a contrast which is needed to keep the spirits up. It reminds me of the Bunny Girl scene in Apocalyse Now.

This song was played in 'American Werewolf in London', the inspiration for Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' video. The special effects were cutting edge for its time.

This song is another example of the Rock and roll formula. First ,the "Intro".../ Sing Two verses then,,," The Middle Eight"..... (Johns solo)..... After that You sing a 3rd verse and possibly repeat the first Verse. End with the "Outro". this can be the exact "Intro" or fading out with a solo of some sort. There are endless variations on this basic theme...Rock and Roll owes most of its structure to the Blues. The Brits listened to the American music and started the British Invasion ...with their own take..
