Y'all got to understand that singing while dancing is hard to do. You got a great performer like Janet Jackson who perfects in doing that. Aaliyah was barely 18 and just started singing while dancing a year prior. Of course she's not gonna be perfect and sound exactly like the record. Don't get shit twisted, Aaliyah can sing her ass off. Stop discrediting her as a artist because she was and still is better than 80% of these artists out here.

Aaliyah was singing her ass off durin this concert.. Her range and vocal transitions are slept on.. The way she plays with her vocal registers and switch up her tones from high to low was such a unique vocal style. She was an amazing vocalist at such a young age and would have been a beast today. I can tell y’all never been to a Summer Jam, it was always empty seats, plus it’s daytime which means she wasn’t the main attraction. She wasn’t that big at the time, the One In A Million album didn’t necessarily produce any hits as far as Billboard is concerned. One in a Million, 4 Page Letter and Hot Like Fire didn’t even chart on Billboard so why would they be excited to see her 🥴 that’s common sense.

I've come to the conclusion that most Aaliyah haters on here think only powerhouse= good vocalist. Screw vocal flexibility, transitions, controlled vocal runs, a well developed lower register and a great falsetto. Belting at full power is the only shit that matters.

I agree with you. I love the smoothness of her voice, it's powerful without being too loud. It fits the music and the emotion of the lyrics, soul, beats, she was just bad ass. I prefer her singing style than just belting out, it's more sexy.

She went on early around around 11am, which is why the crowd is light. There were about 20 acts that day, long and hot as I remember. I remember I saw Usher at Summer Jam, he was act #2 at 10:15am, now that was a light crowd lol, back when he was first starting out.

I was at this show. There's a small crowd infront of the stage that I am in. She was great, but as others have mentioned, the crowd was dead. It was early in the show. It was only half filled. A lot of empty seats. And Aaliyah's songs are good, but are exactly meant to get crowds hyped....she went in early. I don't know why? I thought she was bigger than a lot of other acts that went on after her; 112, Blackstreet. She was great for what she had to deal with. I was right there and saw her just five feet away. She was beautiful, her stomach was so sexy. Great performer.

I don't blame the crowd for being so lifeless. These songs are part of her One in a Million album (which I absolutely love and will never get tired of) that is compromised of mostly smooth, groovy, funky beats that you just wanna digest in an equally relaxed way while you also take in her angelic voice. There are a couple that are a little bit faster and more about hyping you up but even those songs you just wanna bob your head and wave your arms.
People also have to remember this slow jam mellow style was the standard during this time for this genre. None of that EDM shit mixed in where you feel the music by moshing and being as loud as possible.
