- Heres what happened when Olly Wilkins and myself got offered the chance to leave Whistler Bikepark for the day and check out some amazing singletrack trails courtesy of two legends we met in the bar the night before Brant and Stitz, Some seriously Tech Rock rolls to some amazing built North Shore Flow trails. We spent the night in a Pod In Whistler Village,

Hey Ben Deakin! Glad you and Olly Wilkins got to ride some true hand split cedar north shore style wooden trail features! To be honest factory sawn boards are looked down on by real trail builders and only used when someone is being paid to do the trail work by the local governments or companies like Whistler bike park! The north shore mountains were logged in an era when any logs that were not premium were left on the mountain side! The original trail builders in the 80s and nineties used what was lying about! Cedar has natural antifungal properties and hand splitting gives a rougher surface for better traction! Other wood gets that green death slip slime growing on it! Hand split cedar rules! Ride ride ride!

I think I recognize that trail in the middle of the video, the one with the side hill bridges, from when I was there in '02. They've done a lot of good work on it since then. I'm glad to see you getting out of the bike park and on some of those amazing trails. On our trip we did a heli drop in Pemperton. A thousand feet of shale and free ride down to a lake for lunch and a nice swim, then actual great trails for miles back to the valley. If you have the time...

Mate, you need to lobby the govt quick smart to deregulate volcano farming so that its more appealing for farmers to grow their land upwards instead of farming livestock and rabbit food for vegetarians. 😉

Tell me why you wear an open face helmet when doing the most technical knarly tracks in Bc but when you do a Dh race in the FOD you wear a full face?

Don't get me wrong I'd love to have the opportunity to ride it, but the endless video's of A Line and Dirt Merchant every year are getting boring now.
