LYRICS
I've been a victim to the blade against myself
Bloodletting all of my soul
Sucked in, paralyzed in this vortex
Reduced to silence
In the dark I've lingered too long
This sharpened axe, beam of light
I reach for and I master
Wield against these shadows
It's purpose now revealed in silence
Keep searching, question if this light ends
Now I will strike and dig with precision
Introspective eye, erase the concept
I lost my fears and the notion of time
I healed my sorrow
All boundaries are illusion
When you reach the center light
And reinforce the striking power
By chance you're followed
It's purpose now revealed in silence
Keep searching, question if this light ends
All ghosts dwelling in, inside, in the heart
I see them all, release their shadow
Who just disliked something by the almighty Gojira?!?
Thou shall not pass 😤😤
I love this!
How dare they
shimon
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say it was probably an idiot.
His voice. It's so interesting. He's screaming, but it feels like he's whispering it into me as well.
yes man because that technique called distortion he doesn't screaming.Sounds like that beacuse has little heavy voice
@@mperialis im not a vocalist so i cant speak for anyone when it comes to this as im just a guitarist but, distortion is just the "grit" you add over the vocals, and the way you create that distortion is what creates the unique sound of a particular person
You must be well attuned to a solid intuitive sense of self, because that's exactly what he's doing to us every time we listen.
@@mperialis uhhh a dooo hwhaaat?
SAAAME FELLING
I remember seeing them live in detroit. They played this song. I was in like the second row. And right at the 2:25 mark. The singer put his foot up on the box in front of him right above me. And then the strobe lights kicked in. All I seen was his shadow. I was going Fuckin nuts. I felt like I was on clouds. Could not feel my feet. Very memorable moment for me.
I read this on 1/30/2021.......and i pictured how you described it......and every hair on my arms stood up ;)
i love that feeling.
thanks gojira
Man I know what you are talking about. I experienced that exact feeling when I saw them in 2019. It was magical. It was like time stood still for a moment.
INSANE
Sick
They're touring w/ The Deftones RN. I never knew about them before 2 nights ago and IMHO they were = to the headliners in the show they put on. They played fast tight and hard, the drummer really blew me away, he's a machine! If you get a chance to see the tour get tickets and GO!
This initial riff is one of the heaviest and most beatiful things ever created. Feels like the universe is colapsing in front of your face. The entire song is beatiful.
Yes!! I wish that they did an outro with the intro fiff. It is mental. TREMOLO IS THE BEST
It is and it goes so heavy. A favorite 🖤🖤🙌🙌
2:25 is the most heartfelt riff i've ever heard. reminds me of all the sad times in my life. good shit gojira. good shit.
Alejandro Gonzalez yes, love it. I think this is their most overlooked song.
@@fredriksvard2603 pain is a master, fire is everything, in the eilderness and more are also overlooked! Its to expected tho, considering every gojira song is amazing
@@spudmagnum7394 I have yet to find a Gojira song that I do not like.
@@ev5837 Same thing here bro
I agree, I still listen this song when I'm sad and this scream at 2:25 is so emotional to me. I feel this song is very personal, good job guys!
Whoa... there is no hate on this page! Haha, what a refreshing change. Everyone just agrees that this band is excellent, I love it.
Adam Sindel Thats the beauty of gojira and their music
+Spirit Crusher Gojira isn't exactly "old school death metal" though. I do totally get your point though, they are a phenomenal band and underrated so of course there is no hate here.
+Spirit Crusher I thought you were implying that they were from your other comment
I guess the first Grammy nominated band to receive that less hate.
your comment is a steaming pile of shit, there is no way that this band could suck in any way imaginable.
Somehow people think metal sucks and is emotionless and is only screaming, think again losers, Gojira proves all of you wrong. Gojira is one of the greatest metal bands to ever come around.
after Messugah
whats emotionless about screaming?
The most emotions and feelings I feel are mostly thru metal such as gojira
Listen to Morbid Angel
Anthony Monterosso metal is the most emotional genre there is by far
¿Is it just me or does anyone else feel enlightened after going on a Gojira binge?
+Mirror rorriM Fuck yeah man. Every second of everyday, needing that new album in my life!!
Ca fait ça à tout le monde. "Born in winter " or "in summer"?
Mirror rorriM they are alchemists, and heavy philosophers. Be glad your receptive to it. Its a gift really.
I been on a gojira binge all year. Haven't remove from mar to sirus from my car cd player in months
Gojira are like daily vitamins you need.
If mountains played music, this is what they would have played
Well said \m/
I always thought it would be "i am the mountain" by stoned jesus
@@senateop9680 great fucking song🤘
And if the mountains could cry, they would tell us their stories
Or a big ass kaiju, since they were called godzilla
2:55 one of the most powerful riffs ever !
That whole sequence is just too damn good for words. I have many songs that I need to be in the mood for, so I skip around on my shuffle play a lot. But this is one track that I will never skip. It drops and I'm like, "Well, guess I'm listening to The Axe again."
Gojira has somehow made recognizable, super heavy head banging bliss for us older metal fans AND keep it fresh to attract the newer metal fans, and everywhere in between. My hats off to Gojira, a very hard task in this day and age of crap music in every genre.🤘🏻
The melody at 2:25 is beyond beautiful
Such an under rated song by a under rated band. THIS SONG IS FUCKING AWESOME!
+súperbád Gojira has been my favorite band for years, and I have to disagree. I think they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. They have really blown up, and it makes me so happy.
Most definitely. I remember when I first got into them around 6-7 years ago. I found them on an off-chance when I was scouring CZcams and they were pretty much unknown around that time, having a rather small international following and CZcams comments that numbered in the tens at best. By comparison, their popularity is fucking massive now, and they've finally started to break out of the depths of the music underground and into the public eye.
+TwistedMrGrimm 6 or 7 years ago they were about as popular as they are now, the way of all flesh and from mars to sirius had already come out
WeWantYouToStay Eh? I don't remember them being nearly as big back then, at least not from what I saw. First exposure I had to them was an upload of 'Lizard Skin' from around that time, and the comments section was damn near empty. Their most popular upload around then (IIRC) only had a handful of views and around 45-50 comments on it, and when I mentioned their name on message boards and whatnot, people kept reacting as though the band was this new, undiscovered thing that nobody had heard about before.
Things have definitely changed since then. Nowadays, you can mention the name 'Gojira' to almost any metalhead and they'll know exactly who you're talking about.
+TwistedMrGrimm Lizard Skin is from their first album which wasn't released on a major label and so the song isn't very well known, but I'm pretty sure around that point they were pretty big as 'From Mars...' caused quite a stir in the metalhead community and the way of all flesh only cemented their status as a big band, that was all before 2010. But maybe some of the songs had been taken down for copyright and reuploaded so they didn't have many comments. There's also the factor that youtube has exploded in recent years as a music listening platform and so many more people go to it to listen to music now than back then even though it doesn't seem that long ago
Probably one of my top 3 favorite Gojira songs. I just started listening to them recently. Out of the 2 albums i listened to this is one of my favorite songs.
Yes, such deep lyrics and nostalgic melodies.
Don't forget about the albums Terra Incognita (Space time is just wonderful) and all the olders albums, they're gold.
Space Time is absolutely amazing, but IN The Forest is underrated-the fucking triplets, so quickly!
The art of dying is completely impossible to dislike man 👌🏻
Gojira don't have a bad album but The Link is my favorite. Love this band seen them last night at northern invasion and they burned down the fucking stage.
So much pain in one musical masterpiece....Thank you, Gojira...
Sorrow's healer.... love this song,....LOVE THIS BAND !!!
One of my favorite Gojira songs. There is so much thought and emotion put into this music.

All of their songs are enlightening to me, always something to learn about the self
Now that I am paying more attention to the lyrics in their songs, It's definitely worth it to see the meaningful message they're trying to get across, which I never took the time to realize before. if you are here watching this video, feeling the same energy I do from this band, then we are related spiritually. Gojira will always have that one special place in my heart until I die and all of their essence within me is released and goes to where it needs to. I AM gojira.
I've gotten so used to hearing the live version that the sound, beat, melody, everything about this sounds weird

The lyrics are in the video 🤦🏼♂️
2:55 shakes the ground in my house when I listen to this song.
one of the best outros EVER
@@steal_your_soul Funnily enough, in an interview Mario used the end of this song as an example of something they felt like they could've done better
@@DingDongDaddyFromDumas haha I know, read it too :) but I feel they did improve the outro if you listen to the live versions of the song... also, that brixton acadamy version, holy fck that joe solo-part and then the band kicking back in... this is kinda my personal song from them, it mirror a big part of me and what I've been through :)
This song cures depression
Iv been a gojira fan for a long while, everytime I’m sad I’ll binge them, they have so much emotion to their music, shits good for the soul dude
Can't believe people compare this band to Meshuggah so much. Meshuggah might be incredibly talented but most of their music is completely devoid of emotion and dynamic sound. A machine of a band of you will. That's not always a bad thing but I don't think it works well.
However, Gojira not only have an extremely tight sound but they also have lyrical themes that perfectly sync your mind and soul into one, all with the intensity of a freight train.
The whole point in comparing them is not comparing the sound or necessarily the emotion behind it, but the complexity of the pieces they play
Meshuggah is definitely not "void of emotion" not sure where you'd get that from, every song tells an incredibly vivid and badass story from start to finish. Gojira is my favorite band but ObZen is definitely my favorite album.
Meshuggah isn't devoid of emotion at all. They're the epitome of raw fucking anger.
Meshuggahs lyrical themes can easily rival Gojira if you ask me, imo Meshuggah lyrics have much more depth and takes several listens to properly grasp
Some of the lyrical content of the band is very similar but from different perspectives. Read the lyrics from catch 33 and compare them with the way of all flesh. They often artistically speak about something we deeply all know, from different perspectives cos they're different people. They're both very inspiring
"All boundaries are illusion when you reach the center light and reinforce the striking power by chance you're followed"
Beautiful
No words can describe the feel of this song the producer the mixer the musicians it’s all absolutely brilliant.
Whoa...when I first heard these guys I knew that they weren't just about drinking wine and eating baguettes they effin rock
haha, cuz theyre french
It would be a shame if they weren't good. I mean they have one of the best band names ever.
Shawn Trivett lmfao you won the Internet man
Thanks Absolute
Have you checked their song "Organic Local Market" ? It's just about that!
3:33 this part. right there. love that ride cymbal sound
Same!
this song is beyond beautiful.
i love Gojira, i love how their songs are about bettering yourself, and different ways to conquer problems, like esoteric surgery and this song, its about healing yourself and becoming a better person in the end. and this is the heaviest metal in the world in my opinion, idk how they do it, but that mix is fucking awesome. most metal is just dull downward spiral shit, not very inspiring, in fact id say it hurts people, like rob zombie and marilyn manson. gojira fucking rules.
I also use Iowa by slipknot as therapy even though the lyrics and all the different disturbing sounds are probably the lowest and most unpleasant representation of human emotions.
The first couple of times I listened to it, I didn't feel good at all, in fact I felt guilty and filthy inside, but then for some reason I decided to listen to it again and this time it felt extremely therapeutic.
I don't know what it was exactly, it's just like I spontaneously got into a meditative state because that shit was getting me out of my comfort zone and was, in some way, the representation of my deepest fears, so I started to just accept and not deny the emotions that I was feeling, without judging and actually feeling empathy and love for the artist that has been incredibly brave to go in one of the most hidden and darkest cave of the human nature, in order to show us how ugly and painful that same word "love" could be.
I would be lost if it wasn't for brilliant music like this....
All started with "Flying Whales" for me.
Born in winter for me
Ocean planet
the cell
Oroborus for me
The art of dying, and it's still my favorite
I love this. The thrashing war drums, dirty haunting vocals, grinding steel guitars, and that melody in the chaos that binds it all. Yep, I love this.
most emotional gojira song for sure
This has been my favorite song from this album ever since I first listened to it. This whole album in general is very underrated among Gojira fans I think. It has by far the most personal and deepest lyrics they've written. It's all about healing your soul and letting things go. I mean that's been a thematic for Gojira songs since forever but in this album they do it the best way. The Link and L'Enfant Sauvage are my all time favorites, perfect from start to finish.
This song is SO PERFECT!, makes me cry everytime
1:26 chills all over my body
God - this song.....reaches into my soul.and gives me hope.....
Amazing - so cathartic!
every fucking time
Gojira is timeless. They will be remembered for a very long time - I reckon!
One of the best Gojira songs
I used to listen to this song a lot while I was in active addiction and just now I thought of it and listened to it again. It's been 23 months since I've had my last line and hearing these lyrics again almost made me cry. Had to catch my breath for a second.
The lyrics and riffs are so fucking powerful and I think this song fits addiction perfectly. All boundaries are illusion.
when that part at 2:25 comes in.. I am so content in this moment.
can't agree more! just close your eyes and let the beauty of the music sink in!
Same bro
So beautiful...
Again.... Why am I just now giving Gojira a chance? These guys stand in a class all their own.
Me: Careful with that axe, Gojira
Gojira: *extreme metal*
MOTHERFUCKIN GOJIRA man
This is my fav of Gojira.🔥🔥
Every day is leg day for Mario
really starting to get into this band. I love the simple-yet-effective riff-crafting present in their songs, the little touches here and there that keep the listener interested (things like pick slides and what-not) and those vocals are to die for!
x1StapleGun listen to this right now "the link alive- gojira"full concert at Boudreaux. Old gojira kicks new gojira's ass lol
Underrated song right here
Mario is a fkin beast xD
Fucking love this band. All of their songs are good, and that's more than many epic metal bands can say.
What I love is that this music isn't about destruction, but its super heavy!
Mighty and devastating Gojira, such a brilliant.
P.S Mario is GOD.

Meshuggah, Gojira and Insomnium are the holy/unholy trinity of metal as far as I am concerned.
I'll have to check out Insomnium. Meshuggah and Gojira are the last two bands I've gotten into in the last 5-7 years since I don't listen to the radio so fingers crossed that Insomnium doesn't disappoint. Cheers!
TheCrazyCanuck420 Insomnium is a very very good band, great melodies in their songs ;')

Chills chills chills chills chills 😃
Cannot get enough of this song.
lyrics are actually really positive
Every single Gojira song is just amazing. I like that all of their albums have a different sound to them. They are perfectionists when it comes to live performances also. Gojira, you are amazing.
This is fuel for the soul

THE AXE

bloodletting all of my soul
sucked in, paralyzed in this vortex

this sharpened axe, beam of light
I reach for, and I master

*In the beginning there is a person who’s trapped in a place, mentally or physically, that while in it he is being abused by itself and or by others. While it kills him from the inside he is now in a routine of abuse. So deep in he is not objecting to anything. But deep inside he is really hoping for redemption. ‘In the dark I’ve lingered too long’ - now he knows that it’s been too long. He is reaching for a place, or an object, that will help him overcome this torment. ‘This sharpened Axe beam of light’ - now that it got what he wanted and needed, he is a master of his own. No longer in a place of self torment. He is turning against those who abuse him and or mentally overcoming the darkness within.*
its purpose now revealed in silence
keep searching, question if this light ends
now I will strike and dig with precision
introspective eye, erase the concept
I lost my fears and the notion of time
I healed my sorrow
all boundaries are illusion
when you reach the centre light and
reinforce the striking power
by chance you're followed
*Now he have the tools to overcome and destroy all that once killed him. He is no longer in a place of fear but in a place where he is the master of all that abused him. Losing track of anything that is but his redemption. In the proses his bleeding soul is healed, there is no end to what he can do if he put his mind to it. ‘All boundaries are illusions when you reach the center light and reinforce the striking power’ - he is now feeling unlimited of what he can do, for he found the salvation inside himself that gives him the power to overcome it all, it all became available in the one chance he got to grab ‘the Axe’*
its purpose now revealed in silence
keep searching, question if this light ends
all ghosts dwelling in inside, in the heart
I see them all, release their shadow

2:55 Though. Gods.
I'm liking this song more every time
Just listening to this song hurts my arms.
This song has given me intense drive, inspiration, and energy in some times of great need. And THEN I read the fucking lyrics. Beam of light, indeed.
Ouah le riff du début.. Si éficace o_O
I'm a 34 yr old man... and this song can make me cry
I'm a 43 year old man and can confirm that this song causes a strange watery substance to build up in the eyes.
42, and you can add me to the list. Especially the last chorus, the pain and sorrow in in his voice gets me every time
Im 15 but i wanna be a part of the badass old people club 😂😂
42 years old and I will happily admit that this track, and a few others of theirs, get me tearing up too
16 and it's legit the only song to ever make me cry, and I'm sure it will still do that when I'll be 40.
best song of Gojira for me
Amongst all the garbage new music in all genres out there, Gojira is a beautiful saving grace.
zazz82 FUCK YES
Just discovered this band I have to say...bravo.
I remember seeing the video for "To Sirius" and thinking, "whoa...I need to get this album". Upon listening to the whole thing thinking that this was an amazing band. This song seems to solidify that belief in my opinion. If you don't feel anything by the outro to this song, you either don't understand what is being said or you aren't paying attention to the music itself. This group is unique for sure.
3:28 my favorite part of this song. So much emotion and atmosphere
I saw gojira live at Carolina rebellion 2017. They killed it. I listened to them before that but that show really got me into them
