For those of you who don't seem to grasp what SeaDragon does... It is a way to VIEW visual information. The point of it is that it handles a large QUANTITY of large files. Yes I'm sure your 8 core Mac can handle a 1.5Gb file fine. But can it open 800 files that are, to use the example from the vid, 118 megapixels? That works out at, IF they were 20mb in size at roughly 15.625Gb. And that, my friends, can be streamed across a network smooth as silk. Now do we understand what SeaDragon does?

I use Seadragon on my iPhone as well as my home computer. Incredible software in itself and in my opinion in will open gateways for even more impressive visual technology in the future.

@part2themovie I had an answer, but I can't be bothered to argue. The point is, this vid demos the actual TECHNOLOGY of SeaDragon. It is designed to easily handle huge amounts of data across networks as well as on local machines. Of course it's a means to an end, but I wasn't talking about possible end user uses, simple what it does.

@tomhalling The Seadragon Mobile iPhone app that you're talking about did get removed but not because of any inappropriate content. Rather, Seadragon Mobile was simply a tech demo from an applied research lab at Microsoft which closed in November of 2010.
The Seadragon technology is still alive at Microsoft via Seadragon AJAX in the Microsoft Expression team and Deep Zoom in Microsoft Silverlight.

@part2themovie Thanks for the 2 year late reply... but how exactly have I missed the point? All I did was explain what SeaDragon does... or is this a gay little sarcasm attempt?

@meddigo but i think you still missed the point

@meddigo the reply button doesn't degrade means that a reply is still valid.
    2. The point of it is not to stream it across a network, it's the means to an end, which you never stated. I hate it when people get wrapped up in the science or technology and forget the purpose, the reason for all these convoluted back end set ups. MP3s allow you to have more music on the same media, it does not employ audio algorithms to achieve optimal compression.. right? plz no AAC / missing the point

this is just microsoft copying other companies ideas again....this is the same as Apple Aperutre and Adobe Lightroom, except that both of those programs can also edit photos as well as do exactly what this video shows in terms of detail viewing of multiple images....Microsoft = lame and years behind AGAIN.
