This is definitely the sadder of the two Splendid Chase songs.
In the original, a demonic Thomas lookalike named #1Ubel chased James. While James was scared, he did manage to outrun the faker.
In this version however, the real Thomas is used, filling James not only with fear, but also sadness, since Thomas is taken by the Pibby Corruption.
Either way, I feel bad for James.

what if James didn't crash?
Well Thomas can only go up to maybe 60-40 tops, (hero of the rails does not count), but with corruption maybe faster but I feel like James could go faster plus Thomas may fight it I mean percy and James are both some of his closes friend whether he can admit It to James or not
James not crashing would indicate the Good Future version of the song. He learned how to uncorrupt Thomas, so he convinced Sir Topham Hat to get rid of the wall he crashed into in this version of the song.
Little did he know, the corruption Thomas had managed to catch up with Percy as well. As scared as he was by all of the bad news, James knew he had to do something to uncorrupt his age old friends. Fortunately, by the part where the Good Future mix really kicks in, he was able to prepare the uncorruption contraption in time to uncorrupt both Percy and Thomas without killing then outright. In the end, all three were able to escape the corruption’s grasp.

What happened to James at the end
Well ill make up the aftermath story for you ok so james crashed knocking him unconscious in the corrupted Thomas had caught up to him and corrupted him meanwhile Percy was running away out of fear both the corrupted Thomas and corrupted James were chasing Percy to the point where Percy hit a dead end and was corrupted as well

I just realized the tank engines has no lantern
I don’t know, but it seems like Thomas and his friends had lanterns, almost all of them had lanterns, Percy, Thomas and others, but I don’t know why there aren’t lanterns.
Lore James and Percy are doing work but the fat cotorler tells them to look for thomas beacus he has bin missing for hours then they go look for him turns out he was corrupted thomas gets Percy but James escaped before hitting some buffers beacus Thomas was chasing him
so Percy left Thomas; Thomas wouldn't have had time to get him
That Thomas was my idea so I made it for him worry if it's 2023 now hehe
