    in Uechi Ryu, the Sanchin dachi is not as bent knee as in 2:25. Sanchin Dachi is our most common stance. It's more upright and natural, kind of shizen tai but with the front leg turned slightly. Knees are bent, but relaxed. When I did Shotokan and Soryukan, we did it more like here. Uechi style was a big adjustment.

    Great vide again. What is interesting is the separation of Fudo Dachi & Sochin Dachi, which are AFAIK often regarded as the very same stance, just with different names. However, it seems that there are 3 variations for the stance. Eg. Nakayama described it as ~diagonal Kiba Dachi with slightly more weight on front leg, and some variations look like your "Fudo Dachi" on the video.

    • @wallyllaw
      @wallyllaw Před rokem

      Turns out that indeed Fudo dachi and Sochin dachi do have different front leg positions in "Best Karate" book by sensei Nakayama, given that ChatGPT refers him correctly.

    Great video, thanks. Could you tell me which kata incorporates uchi hachiji dachi? I've seen people doing different variations of this stance on YT. Some use the same width as hachiji dachi, some wider, some more narrow. To see it in kata would be very helpful 🙏🙂

    Some stances are used more in Shito-Ryu than Shotokan, was the reason simply to make the kata simpler to learn in Shotokan?
