I think it is because Alex has not read any wimpy kid yet so his view and judgment come from a very neutral place but for me, as a fan of the books I just love these movies for sticking with the written material for the most part and also the guy who plays Rodrick is a legend.
We all had to admit we thought Rodrick was kinda hot.
110%💯
Now usually I’m 100% with you Alex but Rodrick Rules is DEFINITELY the best wimpy kid movie. Its a lot more grounded but its also a lot funnier. Also can we appreciate how perfectly this movie nailed the sibling dynamic? I don’t think I know a single other movie, made for kids or otherwise, that has portrayed siblings this accurately. And the actor who played Rodrick absolutely nailed it like this is RDJ becomes Iron Man level of accuracy (Also he’s hot). So yeah basically this movie is really entertaining I rewatched it recently and it still holds up imo..
The sibling dynamic is like me and my sister, even though we are nothing like either of the characters. That's how i knew they nailed it
They portrayed everything accurately except for the fact that the only thing Rodrick would do after Greg betrayed him is just reveal his diary.

Greg's cowlick is actually supposed to be his 3 hairs like you see in the books. I like how they added that! Just some nice detail
Okay but I gotta admit “what was General Grant doing on the thermostat” was genuinely a funny scene and you can’t convince me otherwise
For real. Maybe I’m biased because his geekiness reminds me of my own dad but personally I thought it was hilarious.
3:04 I think they added the whole “mom buck” thing because it was more significant in the book. In the book there was a whole side plot of Greg stealing Rowley’s play money from a board game because it was identical to the mom bucks.
Like she’s too dumb to know how many she gave out
And didn't Greg pay every MomBuck (including counterfeits) he had to Rodrick for an old school assignment that Greg himself had been assigned and didn't do? Only for the scheme to be revealed when Rodrick tried to cash it all in for a motorcycle and the mom knew she hadn't issued that many?
i swore the mom bucks weren't one to one exchange.. it was like 5,000 mom bucks per dollar, i distinctively remember the mom giving them 25,000 each. not literally 5.
@@mollypawseach mom buck equaled to 1 cent.
I think the weirdest part of this whole movie is how easily they just got a new drummer. if you've ever been apart of your local music scene everyone shares like a handful of them. you can't just get a new a drummer like its nothing

9:42 I'm dead "I LoVe HoRsEs🥴"
i love this movie, but i still think its a little weird that greg telling his parents about the party is framed as his mistake, and not a normal decision. all siblings fight and have secrets together, but he's a lot younger than rodrick and didn't mean to tell his mom. it's honestly funny how upset rodrick gets over his 7th-grade brother confessing to a big high school party, like dude, you brought this on yourself lol.
also: he still covered for rodrick by telling his mom that it was a band rehearsal instead of a party, so he rly didn't do anything wrong imo. if anything, he made a smart choice by telling his mom that SOMETHING had happened, without revealing the specifics. that way their mother wouldn't be suspicious of the door anymore and they wouldn't get a major punishment.

Reasons why rowley is actually the coolest character:
1. Obviously
2. He does what he wants without fearing judgement from others and knows who is worth investing time and energy in.
3. He didn't have the option to not be cool
" knows who is worth investing time and energy in." is incorrect, he hangs out with Greg. In the books, Greg is a sociopath from beginning to end, in the movie I admit he does grow, but at the same time Rowly still hung out with him when he was still a sociopath (in the first movie).

I love how Greg's- and everyone's really- character development carries on to this movie and then the next one as it's something that never happens in the books. Greg is clearly a lot more comfortable in his friendship with Rowley and in his own skin, he's overall just clearly a better person and the mistakes he makes in this one feel reasonable and don't make him look nearly as selfish and self-absorbed as he was in the last one.
I absolutely love how he agreed to be Rowley's partner at the end just so Rodrick could participate in the talent show, because Greg honestly didn't really HAVE to do it, Rodrick is very much facing the consequences of his own actions there.
It's not something that Greg from the first movie would've ever done, maybe not even the Greg from the start of this movie would've done, but the Greg whom had talked with Holly about how, even though they can make your life hell, they're still your family? Whom got to see first hand how awesome Rodrick really is and knows for a fact Rodrick deserves to play in that talent show? He definitely would've.

3:07 In the movie, Mom Bucks are worth more than they did in the books. In the books 1 mom buck = 1 penny. In the original books, there are a bunch of random events strung together to make it feel like a real diary. The mom bucks come back later when Rodrick picks up Greg and Rowley from school. He was paid to give them a ride.
yeah, I always felt DOAWK would make a far better miniseries than movie. Each book could be a season (or maybe two books a season, to bring it from 16 down to just 8) and then each series of events in each book could be an episode. Making a movie, they just had to cut way too much out.

But I really liked it in the book how one night soon after the party Greg overheard his dad saying, "Didn't this door used to lock? I must be crazy."
