  • Olohega. A small, idyllic Pacific island north of Samoa and just south of Tokelau. Bought for a bottle of gin and 15 shillings an acre. Annexed to the United States. Its former inhabitants were evicted almost sixty years ago from their island and long to return.

Why? There is no valid reason for such a change in possession. Historically speaking, the settlers from Tokelau just seized the island after wiping out the native population anyway. How is that any different from other colonial efforts? The American claim to Swains Island is valid, and Tokelau isn't even an idependent nation, being a territory of New Zealand.

@@sharkeisha2225 I am a white America and I support returning Swains Island to Tokelau. I am very politically active, and if I ever have any influence I will push to make this a reality (and to turn over Jarvis Island, Palmyra Atoll, and Kingsman Reef to Kiribati).

You need to learn about our history and about where you are. Olohega was a colony in the Polynesia that was taken. Just as all of eastern Europe was forcibly taken by the Soviet union. Which America thinks is a very very bad place. BAD BAD SOVIET UNION. Well the BAD BAD AMERICA took Puerto Rico, Alaska stole Indian land, took Hawaii Guam Micronesia and Malau. moesha pempengco Yeah really close because our language was mainly influenced by the Tuvaluan and Samoan languages the Good news was first preached to us Tokelauans in Samoan we had Samoan missionaries stationed in our islands including the LMS(London Missionary Society) and also the Roman Catholic sent some of our people to Samoa for training to become ministers of the church Samoan was our islands "Church language" its only been recent that we have had our own bible translated and we also sing many Samoan Church songs to this day

Like Aotearoa needs to have there name returned. I'm disappointed in our MP she has not address this issue if she is part Maori she can name change it. I don't understand her policy's.

Have the Jennings family after all these years at least make an attempt to mend relations with the original people of Olohega? Have they accepted that what their predecessors have done was wrong and unjust? The healing will never begin until they accept and take responsibility for their past, that has struck greif to the hearts of many families.
