    Northstar for mountain biking is I guess the polar opposite from skiing. For winters, people roast Northstar (nicknaming it "flatstar") for having no truly steep terrain. Mountain biking here seems awesome!

    The Sierra area is awesome. I was there for the close of last years ski season. I would agree that the resort villages aren’t like Colorado’s so it would be a good idea to stay in town. I flew into Sacramento for work then drove over.

    I live in Reno and have been to Northstar Bike Park quite a few times. Your review is right on the money and I do mean money. It's really pretty expensive. $70 in 2021. . Trails are great but DUSTY and loose unless you catch them within an hour of the watering schedule. Can also get quite crowded. All in all, I think you're about right. I'd give it a 7, maybe 7.5 tops. Great review guys.

    Good review guys, lots of useful info. It would have been nice to hear more about the intermediate riding situation and trails there. My son is a solid intermediate rider (same w/ me) who is a long way from needing any lessons, but he's also not going to be bombing down the really gnarly enduro-style downhills. There are a lot of us intermediate-venturing-into-black riders around. Just something to keep in mind for the future.

    • @RyanRosario
      @RyanRosario Před 3 lety

      I agree. I am in the same boat. I'd like to level up to black diamond. The terrain in the reviews looks fun but it's hard to tell what the diversity of skill levels are on the trails. I know Northstar is not for beginners, but what is their definition of "beginner?" lol

    • @jt8251
      @jt8251 Před rokem +1

      All of the trails here are doable by intermediate riders. I would not characterize anything at Northstar as being "expert" or "pro" only. Even the black diamond runs are doable for an intermediate rider. Here's the thing - you don't have to jump the big jumps. They are all table tops. There are no big gaps or insane step-down jumps. The black diamond trails are mostly technical, rocky terrain, which is doable by anyone with intermediate skill. What you have to be careful about is riding on busy weekends and being in front of expert+ riders. They are flying with the intention of clearing all the big features, so you need to be conscientious of that and avoid getting landed on if you're not jumping the big table tops. Thankfully, the dust usually keeps everyone spread apart.

    • @jt8251
      @jt8251 Před rokem

      @@RyanRosario from my experience, anything classified as "beginner" or green circle trails have no features - no jumps, no wooden features, no rocks. Just a groomed, flowing twisty trail, often times just service roads. Any trail in California that has jump features or man-made wooden features or rocks will automatically start at blue square (aka "intermediate") trails. Even those are mostly doable by beginners provided you at least have some braking control and balance.

    Great review guys, appreciate the honesty. I’m headed to California on a family trip next September and we are having a day at Snow Summit and a day at Northstar. My son will be riding too, so I’m guessing he will enjoy Snow Summit more than NS as it won’t be as technical. Worth a visit though. 🤙🏻

    Northstar is a great park and is super fun, but definitely needs more maintenance for the price. The trails were bombed out during the ews so I can only imagine how bad hey were after. One thing that didn't get mentioned was how you can usually get in a ton of runs due to short lift lines. That is a big plus when compared to how long lines get at places like Snow Summit.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  Před 4 lety +1

    I've been to Northstar and think this was a very fair review. Fun park, but definitely could use more maintenance of the holes and braking bumps in corners, like you said. I liked the shots of riding the different trails. Good review! For my money, in California, Mammoth Mountain is my favorite bike park. Just the drive sucks...

    Pro tip, head into Truckee for food, Moody's for dinner and great live music. Marty's for breakfast! Can't beat Jake's on the Lake in Tahoe City too about 35 min drive away. The village is overpriced and limited quality options.

      Downieville, call up the outfitters there and you can't go wrong. It isn't a bike park with lift access but you can shuttle with some climbing on bike. I'd consider Downieville a true enduro experience.
