The attempt is really creative, but no one who doesn't have the video available and is just listening to the verse is going to automatically think to themselves "Oh, so if I take the first two Pokemon references and add them together, it's going to equal the punchline". So, yeah, it's not anything to knock him for, but when it comes to music, the fact that you basically need the video to get that can be a bit of a bane instead of a boon. Really good verse, though.
