- Welcome to El Rancho Texas, San Luis Potosi my father's hometown. Today I have the honor of exploring my roots in San Luis Potosi and learn more about my dad's life in Mexico before he migrated the United States. We will be showing you around town, hear some of my early childhood stories and learn about the devastating effects of the global pandemic Covid-19. But we will also be celebrating life as we celebrate my cousin quinceañera.
We are Jenny and Kevin with Eat Baila Travel we are mexican-american couple from Chicago in search of a home in Mexico.

Thanks for watching this very special video! Don't forget to turn on the CC for subtitles!
So, I don't think the CC is translating just so you guys know. I only noticed it about half way through cause my husband walked in and asked me what you guys were saying lol I turned on the CC for him and it's showing up in Spanish.
Wonderful video guys, really hit me in the feels hearing about all the loss your little town had from Covid. We lost family too from Covid that year. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much we just figured it out and they should be working now. We’re glad you enjoyed the video as it was very special for us to share.
*grupo legitimo in in the video tags* "tell me youre from san luis potosi without telling me you're from SLP"
It was a beautiful experience to be a part of this production (hello, camera woman here 🤗) to witness such a special family connection. I feel so blessed to have married into such a beautiful family! 💖
Thank you Baby! I love you ❤️
I don’t even know where to begin… I could not stop watching this video. It resonated with me. I am so proud of you for putting family first. I don’t speak Spanish, yet, but I felt like I understood everything that your father was saying. The sense of community, the small town, the partying, the love… I’m Black but I felt like my ass wanted to be Mexican now. Lol . This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen and just confirms my love of Mexico and the Mexican people. Well done guys!
Your comment made our day! Sorry we were a little delayed with the English subtitles it they’re up now. If you ever decide to visit Mexico we’d like to show you around. Saludos amigo
@@EatBailaTravel I would LOVE that! I already have my Temporary Residency and I just came back from Queretaro a few weeks ago. I will definitely let you guys know when I'm back in Mexico. You guys ROCK! 🤩
This made me cry but happy at the same time. Since I came over here at a young age I didn’t get an opportunity to hear my Buelo Tato story of how they grew up and having mi Tio Lino speak about it and show the house they grew up, just makes me so happy to see it. Also thank you Kevin, Jenny, and Tio for showing our families graves, some of them I hadn’t even seen. And specially thank you for visiting my grandparents and allowing me to see their graves 🙏🏼 I love this video, once again Thank You for filming this!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video prima, it was a privilege to be able to make it and I'm glad our family is enjoying it un abrazo prima
Wow! You, your dad and grandpa all look so alike! Great video btw

Honestly, this is one of your best videos. Thank you for sharing your family with us. Please more like this!
Thank you! Will do! 🤗❤️
This is by far one of the best videos I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing your story, your roots. Not everyone gets the chance to go back and discover their roots or feel like they're too good to visit just because they were born in the US. I'm proud of my parents coming from a small ranchito in Michoacán and it's always great to visit. I'm looking forward to see more videos like these. Great job guys!! 👏👏
Super happy you enjoyed such a special video for us. Just wait until you see Kevin's roots from Veracruz. His mom's story deserves a Netflix special.
AMAZING video about rancho life in Mexico! Kevin is amazing in front of the camera. Almost brought me to tears. Keep going kids!
aw thanks for the compliment!! thanks so much 😊❤️🤗
Duuude this made me cry man! I miss the family and can’t wait to go back 😭
Looking forward to going back with all 5 of us soon!
I love this video. It was great to see Kevin with his dad and the family. And it really made Covid hit home hard in small rural pueblos. And nice camera work Jenny!
Thanks Chris! we put a lot of heart into this one and are glad people are enjoying it
What a beautiful and heartfelt video! I am so sorry to hear about how the pandemic affected your family and hometown. It's important to hear these stories so we can better understand the very real impacts the pandemic has had on so many people. Such a big hit on such a small town. And I also admire your familtys resilience and the way you honor your ancestors by living life and celebrating your traditions joyfully. A very special episode. Thank you for sharing such a personal side of your life and showing us what the real Mexico is like! ❤
Wow. Like others have said, this video has me in tears. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful family and stories. San Luis Potosi has been added to my must see list for 2023. Thank you💝 PS...your cousin's quinceañera dress was stunning! She looked like a princess🌷🦋💞
Thank you so much! It was a really special video for me so I’m glad to hear others are enjoying it 💞
Wow - its so great to see Kevin with hos dad in SLP!
DANG Kevin, you’re looking so handsome in your cowboy hat!
Viva Mexico 🇲🇽
thank you!! 🤗
Damn dude you look just like your dad! ❤ Beautiful family Kevin!
Thank you so much Kyle!
Qué bonito documental chicos. Muchas felicidades.
What a special video to share with everyone. It's really nice to see how tight-knit the small pueblos are. A much different way of life for our elders, grief and loss were not talked about as openly as it is now. Very interesting to hear how the town got its name.
gracias amigos, hope you're doing well
Great video! The stories were both poignant and bittersweet. We appreciate you sharing the history of your family. I think it's important to tell the stories of those lost to COVID so people remember and understand how so many families were deeply affected.
Thank you so much. The global pandemic changes our lives in so many ways we have yet to understand. It’s important to never forget what we went through because it’s important to grow from what learned and experienced during those tough times.
Wow, what a party! You are fortunate to have such a close knit family and the sharing of family history between you all. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Honestly yes I feel super fortunate! Thanks for watching 🤗
Me encanta este video! I love this and it’s so important to learn the stories of our parents and others who came before us. I am so sorry about the toll Covid took on your family. My husband and I both lost our fathers so we understand. But I love how Mexicans keep alive those memories of loved ones and the way you celebrate the cycle of life ❤️
I agree. I wish we'd started making videos sooner to capture stories of elders who've now passed on 🥲 these stories are so special. Sorry for your loss as well. We all went through a very intense time in history.
Wow, guys, thank you for sharing such a personal story. I don't think we as a society are really processing the tragedies of the pandemic, so I appreciate you going there. I am really sorry that you lost so many family members, each one of them precious. As for the celebration, so fun and educational to see how real Mexican people live. Now, I can see why you guys are so into dancing! It comes from your roots.
thanks, Jenny! it was an honor to be able to make this video. We mean it when we say we're proud of our roots!
Nice video, some of us can appreciate this type of experience more than others. Quinceañeras at the ranchos are the best!
Thank you so much Eduardo! Saludos
Love it!!! I'm glad that both u shared this part of ur family.
So happy you enjoyed it this is a very special video. Saludos un abrazo
Wow. Not only did I cry through this entire video, I am still crying now. So beautiful in so many ways. Most especially that you captured in video those moments of your Dad's childhood and how you and he connected at this time (in those chats and at the 15ra. Beautiful.
Also, I deleted comments on your Ancestry DNA Vlog that you (Kevin) look just like my ex and that his family is from Tamaulipas. Now I find out that you are a Mendoza and his Mom was a Mendoza, too. Double Wow.
I really enjoyed this video. Your town really reminds me of my partner’s small town in Durango. This is what I feel the real Mexico is like. Unfortunately tourists from other countries rarely get to experience this part of Mexico.
Glad you enjoyed it! and yes I'd say it's the true mexico, beyond the curated tourist areas
That story that repeats all over Mexico and latin America, beautiful and sad both at the same time. The sence of the entire community coming together to celebrate is what always humbles me de nuestra gente. Saludos and sorry for all your family losses to Covid.
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment I hope you can relate to this video. My dad is so happy to see this. Now I gotta make sure I get a video at my mom's rancho. saludos have a wonderful day
Bravo! What a wonderful story - thank you for sharing such personal family history - you guys are professionals at this, better than most! I loved how your family sat down and shared all the details, even going into a family members home to show us around... honorable! I truly enjoyed the authenticity of your content. Such a beautiful young couple you two are. May the good Lord keep you two safe on your travels and I pray that you both will find the perfect home there in Mexico. God Bless ~ (i really enjoyed this video, perfecto!) lol
Thank you so much Melissa 🤗❤️❤️🥹 it was a really special video that we put a lot of heart into so I’m very glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏽❤️
What a special video! It definitely resonates with me as my parents are from a tiny town in Michoacán. There are so many similarities from our families that migrate to the US for greater opportunities. Thank you both for sharing your and your family’s story.
Thank you so much for watching and it makes us happy that this video resonates with you. Saludos
Thank you for sharing this video, so interesting to hear of your roots Kevin. It was so lovely to watch family & all the villagers coming together, how wonderful. Kevin I am so sorry to your & your family for all your recent losses of your family members. Big hugs.x
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much
Love this! My family is from Ahualulco SLP and ur video brings back a lot of memories for me. Thank you for sharing.
great video! puts a new spin on GTT, 3 letters sometimes painted on the door of those emigrating to Spanish Tejas, Mexican Tejas or Republic of Texas & later even to the US State of Texas - especially common in 19th century Tennessee.
Oh wow very interesting we never knew about GTT but there has to much more history we don't know about.
I loved this video man, it’s so nice to see you guys going back home! I did get emotional listening to your dad and relatives’ stories, it reminds me so much of my family! I hope you guys had a great time over there!
Thanks, Julio! This was super emotional for us the whole time, super glad we finally got to make this video! saludos!
Excellent video of your family's hometown and traditions. Keep them coming.
Thank you! Will do!
Kevin you lookin 🔥🔥🔥 with the tejana
Thank you so much fam! ❤️
Arriba SPL ❤ 😊, love this!
My father is from El Quelitalillo !!
awesome 🙂 saludos!
I love tha you're doing this, cause Mexican Americans can be so ignorant about Mexico, When Mexico has so much to offer, to the wold, the richness that is not exacly money, but an identety that blows you;re mind.
unfortunately that's very true, many Mexican Americans can be very ignorant about Mexico and they're just as influenced by media and sometimes even the horror stories from their immigrant families who've had to flee awful living conditions and while it's not perfect, Mexico is growing and changing and has a lot of beauty. We're proud to be de aquí y de allá ✊🏽🇲🇽❤️🇺🇸
My heart is bursting with joy and also crying with sadness. This is the relationship I wish I had with my dad. My dad was born in the states of Mexican parents and he struggled to be an American kid and this struggle was passed to us, his kids. We now, all wish we could speak better Spanish and wish we knew more of or Mexican heritage.
Thank you for sharing Scot. We understand some of those struggles you mentioned, so many of us were raised under different circumstances that didn't allow us to express our Mexicaness as we should. We hope you know that it is never too late to connect with those roots. It's even easier these as getting to Mexico is more accessible, and learning spanish can be done at the tip of your finger tips. We hope you find the courage to come back and pursue some of those roots the same way we did.
Fantastic video! Kevin, thanks for sharing some of your family history, traditions and culture! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it 🤗
I'm sorry to hear that so many members of your family were lost to Covid I had more then a few members of my family who became sick my self but all but my younger brother survived it .
sorry to hear that David. Such a tough feeling to have a global pandemic take your family members. May your brother rest in peace. Huge hug
Muchas gracias Matthew!
When Kevin was asking his father questions in front of the church. It almost seemed as if he had a knot in his throat. I cried through most of the video. It was the best video y’all have made. It was so raw and real. It resonates with so many of us that live in the US and have our roots in Mexico. We definitely want a second video ❤️
This means the world to me we are glad you enjoyed the video this what we made our channel for. To show peeps the Mexico our families in USA come from.
Thanks for sharing your families town and roots.
Thank you so much for watching commenting
Wow Kevin, te pareces tanto a tu padre! Wonderful video. Thank you and your family.
😁 muchas gracias!
I had this same exact experience with my family. Watching this just now brought tears to my eyes. I was so happy to watch this episode. Thanks for sharing. It really touched my heart!

Absolutely loved this video reminds me of my dads town of Moctezuma, SLP. Brought so many memories of my childhood and teenage years when visiting SLP thank you for sharing.
One of my favorites!
Ours too ☺️🫶🏻
Hi guys. Great job. We have family in Rioverde, which is in the same state at least. It was really interesting to see the quinceanera! Our daughter is ten now and I hope that she can be made to feel as special as your cousin was.
aw I'm sure she will be! and start saving up because quinceañeras are expensive 😅🤑
I love these videos where you connect with family. It really portrays how life is here in Mexico. I would love if you explore in the area of San Luis Potosi. It is a very beautiful area and I hope to get over that way. I'm in Jalisco.
When we started our channel these were the kind of video we dreamed of making. We are so happy to make these dreams come true. It makes us even happier to know y'all are enjoying these videos. We hope to vlog more on SLP soon. Saludos

What a special trip! I could feel the history and the love in your family, Kevin. So many stories to be told, you must go back. I got teary watching, your family has had a lot of loss too soon. It is wonderful seeing how the community came together for the celebration!
that's one thing I love about my father's home town, how close everyone is and the support for each other. Thanks for your comment, Cindy!
¡Muchas gracias amigos! Your family stories and visits is one of the main reasons I follow you ! My family is from a part of central America with significant civil unrest so growing up we never could visit, so sad. Anyway, you are both blessed to have family in Mexico to connect with💃🏽 I look forward to more travels and stories 🎉🎉👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you so much for following us for the main reason we made our channel. We hope you can make your way to your roots in central america. Depending on where you are trying to go there are some places that might be better than others. we have friends in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica that seem to living safe and sound there.
Very interesting
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! Saludos!
@@EatBailaTravel thank you!
❤ Great video! Reminds me so much of my first trip to Mexico way back in 1978. I spent the summer with my best friends family who were in the cattle business. I had the opportunity to explore many villages and small cities. I found a love with the country and it’s people that continues to this day. I am currently looking for a piece of Mexican heaven to retire and call home when the time comes to hang up my work clothes. I am glad that you are exploring your family roots! I have a huge extended Mexican family that have let me into their lives and the many friends that have. I feel blessed to have been let into a culture that is so different from my own.
aw sounds like a lovely connection you've built over the years. Excited for you to find your new home ❤
Another beautiful video. Sorry for your loss Kevin. So many beautiful traditions, stories are waiting to be shared by people like you. So many us that our parents migrated come from small town (ranchos). Great Content! ❤
Thank you so much for watching it makes us so happy you enjoy our roots video. Just wait for the kevin's mom's story it is something out of a movie.
Great video!!!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it
Dope video bro
Thank you!
demasiado mezcal y ron 🤪
( that was GTO LAaneha ha). 😎
Thanks, Lane! 😁
👍🏻
Gracias!
Yea, it had to be some sort of mexican revolution story because on my other side of family they also buried money lol
Aw I don't speak Spanish. Can you add English text?
When you’re watching the video there’s a little settings icon (at the top right of your screen or bottom right) for English subtitles they should work now. For some reason they weren’t populating before sorry about that.
