  • Mike Todd of Transformation Church has made quite a name for himself over the last few years, often from shocking and over the top sermon illustrations. In this episode we look at a few examples of his preaching and see what is potentially problematic.

Good Morning ! I am watching from WV . Always enjoy your talks. I have learned so much. Our local Carr Global Methodist church is the only Global church in the very southern tip in Mercer County. We have people traveling from other counties because they don’t have a global church yet.
    Thanks again Jeffrey❤

This "preacher" with his nice suit and man bun is the Jerry Springer of preachers. Very entertaining and that's the problem

.As far as the title of Bishop, Baptists have always seen that as synonymous with pastor, overseer and elder, so that alone doesnt always raise concern, however using the title "apostle" would. The Amish and Mennonites use the title of bishop as synonymous with pastor as well. The church that merged with the Methodist Church in 1968 has roots in the Mennonite movement.
I am always skeptical of these kind of churches. But I am also understanding more and more of how Jesus was seen by His culture. He was called "blasphemer", "heretic" etc, seen as a law breaker. If it were just this clip, I would give the benefit of the doubt. I dont think that pastor ever said " God made me this way" he said "born this way". There are many conditions that persons are born with that was not a decree of God. A child born with defects because his mother drank is born a certain way, but God did not create him that way. The pastor did say people value their OPINION more that God's DECISION on the issue. Give him props for saying that. He said "God has already decided stuff that we think we can have an opinion on". Seems clear to me.
The modern church has so softened heterosexual marriage that no one bats an eye. Divorced 3 times? no problem, just dont do it again, mean while enjoy your new "wife" or "husband". We might even let you be an usher or teach a Sunday School class. Maybe even a deacon or clergy in some churches.. Until the lgbt see "church people" having to live by the same biblical rules we ask them to live by, they will steer clear of a real church. Until the church calls out divorce and remarriage as the adultery that it is, we will have no validity calling out the sins of others. I "think" I feel some of what Jesus felt, because I am hated by the culture because I stand for God's truth, and I am hated by the "church" for my compassion towards sinners and for calling out the church's hypocrisy. If you really want to be Jesus' body (hands and feet, heart etc) to the world, you must stand in the middle of that tension. The alcoholic that keeps falling is closer to the heart of Jesus than the gossiper in the church who ridicules them. Always enjoy episodes like this, to both warn and debate about. Thanks

The trans challenge is one of those things that can get very challenging. There are so many factors that go into it, even if we consider those who do not have a diagnosed gender dysphoria.
I could go on forever about this subject, since it seems that working with LGBTQ is going to be a serious aspect of where God has called me at this point. The subject comes twofold, because it is both a sinful lifestyle and a religion. Communicating with people in this community has to be done with great discernment, because they desperately need to feel the love of God before they would even consider God's holiness. This never means affirming who they are, but carefully separating truth from self and the good that God has graciously provided each of us. In a recent conversation with one such teen, I told her that the compassion she was experiencing was a gift from God, but that it wouldn't last if she continued to destroy herself in the life that opposed him.
The part about this that isn't considered very well, in my opinion, is that LGBTQ is a religion. The very first proof that it is a religion is that "not every can be trans." If you try to use their logic and methods against them, "Well, I identify as a woman right now" you will be met with, "You don't really believe that." Why would belief be necessary unless it was a form of religion? If we started treating the LGBTQ community as a religion akin to Islam, I think our perspectives and approaches might change a bit. Christians who work with Muslims take the time to convince, persuade and plead for them to convert to Christ. And when they have converted to Christ, they need to be ready to take them in and shelter them from those who would try to take them back. Anyone familiar with that process knows that it is hard, heartwrenching and sometimes dangerous (even in the U.S.).
The point of all this is really just to highlight how serious we need to take this. I do believe that when we are dealing with those who are part of the LGBTQ community, we are dealing with something bigger than an individual who is lost. I wholeheartedly believe that we are dealing with a powerful spiritual force opposing God, which is why so many Christians are deceived and swept along.

Satan was a throne guardian such as a cherubim or seraphim not an archangel.

"Who's going to clean it up?"
I guarantee it won't be him. It will be someone who is paid minimum wage. The most arrogant part of this is that he is not the guy who will clean up that mess. I am a Pastor and I can't imagine doing that without having to roll up my own sleeves and clean that up afterwards.
As a Preacher, I hate people who use the Sermon as a chance to grandstand, make a spectacle, or otherwise play games. But not being willing or ready to clean up the mess you make really bothers me.

Isn't there a gray area here? I think of "God's ways are not our ways..." Do we truly have all the answers to these questions??? I think that's what he is getting at. I think saying "I don't know" is one of the wisest things a spiritual leader can say.

I think there is a lot of gray area in life that needs to be engaged very conscientiously and carefully. The stuff around trans isn't a gray area. It is pretty self-evidently an area of satanic influence. I don't want to demonize the folks who struggle with these feelings. I'm just saying these feelings come from the evil one. If we give them any room, we make room for much misery and death. The larger critique we had here had to do with this notion that it is okay for us not to like what God demands, but to do it out of dutiful compulsion. We have to be able to insist that God's ways are perfect and good, and that our feelings are wrong. If we cannot do that, then we cause people to hate and resent the Lord. Folks need leaders who can be confident about the truth of God's word. If he can't do that, then he shouldn't speak on the topic.
