- MY First day with the New WIZARD W800 100 WATT Head! Random Noodling on the guitar.
I'm blown away by the huge tone of this W800 Wizard. Sometimes you just find the amp of your dreams, I didn't think it could get much better until I played through this amp!
I haven't had too much time to play with the amp yet as I just got it yesterday....but here's a sound demo with my Les Paul. Many More videos of me dialling this tone monster in coming. This is Rick's version of the best JCM 800'ish circuit only modded to perfection!

Congrats man. I have a 100 watt w800 as well and it is really one of the best (maybe THE best) amp I have ever owned or played. Lifer amp! 🤘
100%, I believe that. I had a feeling I’d love it too. That’s awesome! Congrats to you as well. 👌 I’ve only got minimal hours playing on it but I can already say it’s the nicest amp I’ve ever owned and recorded with. There’s so much to be said for quality builds. I can’t find a bad tone from this amp. Takes pedals like a champ too, huge bonus. 🤘 cheers!
@@JasonHobbsGuitarist Glad you are loving it man! I actually took a chance on the w800 as my first Wizard and I would say your vids and being willing to chat about them was a huge reason. I am glad I did....tremendous amps from the tone to the feel to the build. I also recently picked up a 2023 MC1, but can't play it until I am back in Alberta!

@@JasonHobbsGuitaristhow would you say this compares to a 2203x? Ie. Low end, dynamics, kerang, openness, organic sounding etc.
I've been an amp sim player for over a year now, and can't figure out why Wizard Amps have such non-existent presence in that world. You show incredibly amazong they can sound. Hopefully you'll someday share a Tonex Capture or something along those lines, so these amps are shown some love even in the Plug-in world!
That’s a different world than I’m in right now… I’ve tried stuff like that in the past but it just didn’t work for me personally. I’d contact Rick personally and see if he’s heard of anyone doing it. As the Master Tom Bukovac once said, “great tone is heavy and hard to carry” 👍 there’s some truth to that. ✌️
@@JasonHobbsGuitarist I very much agree, sir. But considering Amp Sims are so convenient, more and more people are adopting that method as I have. I wish I had the time, money and facilities to get these amazing amps. I'm lucky to have found your channel just today! To explore and learn more and more about these beasts.

The OX box has become my best piece equipment I’ve ever purchased. With the OX I can use all my tube amps and get them recorded as I hear them. That being said, I would much prefer to record them with mics.
There’s no right or wrong way though.. the best way is what sounds best to your ears. 👍

Nobody wants to spend the money on amazing amps and then essentially “give away” the tone. They’ll buy an $7k guitar but can’t only “afford” a 15 watt amp because they live in an apartment.
It definitely sounds great, but I prefer the sound of your Wizard MC2/MTL demos to this. I'm glad to have heard both. Thanks!
👍 I haven’t touched the surface of this amp yet. This is very low gain in this video. Which is what I prefer. Of the two, I much prefer the W800 for my needs and style. They both sound very similar. I’m 100% certain I can get the MTL MC2 Sound when I want it from the W800. They both share the same output transformer.
I was curious about the transformer thanks. Does this have the same clarity and yet aggression the Wizard MC's have. And do you know if it uses really high plate voltage like the MC? Im not a modern metal player. So I don't need insane amounts of gain.

I’m torn by getting a Wizard (one reason being is that there is so many to choose from) or getting a Top Hat Emplexador 50.
Is there a particular Wizard that you’ve played and/or owned that you’d lean towards for really good plexi tones while being to take it up a notch to higher gain territory that still retains the plexi DNA?

From what you just said, you’d love the Wizard Modern Classic 2. Having said that, every Wizard I’ve owned is fantastic for the style I’m into. I have tons of Wizard videos here. Have a listen, they are all great amps. My personal fave is the Wizard W800 which is essentially Rick’s take on a modded JCM 800. Love that thing!
Thats my particular taste in distorted guitar whether it be clean, low or high gain.

Thanks man, the W800 is plenty of gain for me. I’m only using half of it in this video. It loves pedals too, awesome bonus when I’m using teles and Strats with overdrives and fuzzes. 👌the finish on my 59 is called Honey 🍯Lemon Fade.

Awesome playing.. nothing eats a JCM 800. Unless wizard makes one.. lol.. push the gain up a bit and put an overdrive into metal territory.. bet this thing chugs with out the annoying spikey highs Marshall sometimes has..
Thanks man. I’m waiting on my WIZARD 4x12 cab to do more demos. I’ve been doing a lot of playing and experimenting on the W800 in the meantime. Playing all my guitars through it. Been in a late 70’s / 80’s kinda mood lately. The 800 definitely nails this stuff. I’m truly in awesome of this thing 👍 ✌️
would love to hear why you traded in the MCII MTL or hear a side by side
I really don’t use or need the excessive gain in the MTL MC2. Great amps! These days I’m more into less gain, the W800 has more than enough gain for me. It’s more suited to my style, plug into the low gain input and it turns into the best pedal platform amp I’ve ever had man. 👌 I’m in heaven with this new W800. 🤘

Not better, just more what I’m after these days. There’s more than enough gain on tap in the W800, as much as I’ll ever need. If you want even more high gain, the MTL MC2 could be the amp for you. Both great amps. Go into the LO input 👍 and use pedals as well. Which is awesome! 🤘
Could you do a demo utilizing the higher gain settings……again I’m still trying to decide between the W800 and the MCII or Hybrid………as I have gotten older I prefer less gain, but it’s nice to know if you needed the amp can get into those territories……and when I say high gain I’m not talking like newer metal, but classics like Judas Priest, Ozzy, ect…….Thanks!
I can’t imagine anyone needing more gain than this amp puts out. I’ll be doing more demos for sure. The W800 has a built in boost too which gives even more gain and it sounds natural.
I’m happier with this amp than the MTL MCII Hybrid.. but that’s just a personal preference. 👌
