Coming in to court is voluntary, in most cases. The majority of defendants come in to fight their ticket because they felt they were wrongly ticketed, or they have an excuse they'd like the judge to consider. People do have the option to mail in their payment.

The judge decided to drop the charge to nothing the second he asked the kid if he'd had breakfast.
You don't let your kid skip a meal unless 30 dollars is a lot of money in your house. The judge caught that, lot of respect.

I've never seen anything like this, but it reminds me of how laid back the judges were in my city in the 80s. Very nice judge, and really didn't throw the book at me. This judge is really special seeing how uptight the legal system is.

Besides that, lots of people from other religions or even without any religious affiliation know about him, especially the story about dispute between the two would-be mothers. He even appears in secular writings like "One thousand and one nights".

Cute kid and a very nice judge. Way too nice in my opinion. It may only be traffic court and wearing a suit may not be necessary, but if you want the judge to go easy on you, DO NOT wear shorts to a court hearing. At least wear long pants and a nice shirt.
