    PO420 CODE. Also make sure you don't actually have a bad o2 sensor. That code may be a code
    (on a ford at least) PO171 or a PO174. That's a dead giveaway. But usually you have to become a detective
    in tracking down the annoying code!

    Thanks for this/all your videos. I just replaced my cat and both o2 sensors and the light is still on! Now I’m going to do my valve cover gasket and the intake manifold gasket. Hopefully this turns off my PO420 SES light. Please pray for me. 😞🙏🏾

    My 420 / 430 code was because of the cats, one was clogged pretty bad. I'm going to eventually replace the intake manifold and the gaskets before it goes bad which I know it will.

    Could it also be a leaking exhaust header gasket?

    This was a great video..
    I just took apart my 99 F150 5.4 Throttle & Body...
    Cleaned it and put new intake gasket & IAC gasket as well as cleaning the IAC that was really dirty..reason I did that was because I redid my PCV hose assembly due to a bad vacuum leak..
    Couldn't reach the back hose without taking the whole body apart.
    Not as far as you went but this gave me a good idea for the future and it is similar to an F150 job..
    Thanks again..
    This is great for DIY guys.
    I saved at least $1500-2K doing what I just said up there and doing my Plugs and Coils a week prior..
    In 30 degree Chicago weather ofcourse. Have a good one man!

      YEA...that back hose is a bitch to get to...lol Glad you save some big bucks! 30 degrees in Chicago...that's a summer day in December...haha

    My Mustang was throwing a catalyst code. Don't recall the number. This would have been so much simpler if it has a similar issue. Oh, it is the 3.8 v6, not the v8. I was planning on replacing the y pipe, but I ended up getting a low miles engine/trans/y-pipe for free. Replacing a gasket or two would have been much simpler than an engine swap.

    How did you determine that the gaskets were bad?

  • @peaceWorker77
    @peaceWorker77 Před 4 lety

    What i think is after we got a failure code, you need to reprogram the vehicle computer manually. With this computers from 2000 to 2016 vehicles never said exactly what is the problem we just get a code and many probabilities that we could have. We just need a real mechanic that can deal with the car without changing many unnecessary parts guessing and making you spend unnecessary money.

    I don't even own a ford. I just watched your vid for the entertainment.
    it's too bad you don't offer the unedited (long) version for someone who wants little things during the times when you speed the vid up. I am sure there are other viewers who agree (I know youtube has it's rules regarding time length).
    you did an awesome job. clearly did a lot of work for others benefit.

    All that work and you never even gathered evidence of catalytic activity or restoration of catalytic activity after the repair. I guess things like data and analysis of the code sourcing are not necesasary to make sure that you are fixing the actual etiological cause.

    • @FixingWithPassion
      @FixingWithPassion  Před 5 lety +1

      Etiological...PO420 AND PO430 is a no-brainer with experience. Its what the code says...On 4.6's ...its one every day...intake gaskets or new cats....and on most autos.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox Před 5 lety +1

      You are missing the point. The point is you are not showing any evidence that there is presence of catalytic activity. You have zero evidence you are fixing the car because you have no established baseline of catalyst activity and you have no demonstration of variation of catalytic activity directly resulting from the induced variable.
      You have to do do the basic, fundamental elementary diagnostics BEFORE doing a repair!!

    In like Flynn, refers to Errol Flynn, he was a actor and a playboy in the 1940s, he could date any woman he wanted, if he talked to her, he was in the door so to speak. I have a 4.0 v6 with the code, and the plastic intake. Im not in like Flynn.......

    it's too bad you couldn't have used a smoke machine before disassembly to verify the leak. even the cigar trick may have been able to verify the leak.

    • @FixingWithPassion
      @FixingWithPassion  Před 6 lety +1

      I my get some soon just for fun. Hell I may get a vaping/juice machine... I hear that's all there good for.

    • @edwardjames6070
      @edwardjames6070 Před 6 lety

      those vacuum leaks are very prevalent in all cars now, but if you just have one car that you work on, it may not be worth the hassle to acquire a smoke machine. I think you can buy a cigar for a buck. you want a LOT of thick, intense smoke.
      I have a santa fe and the p0420 came up. since I have other cars that I can use, I let it sit until I can do the repair the correct way, as you did here. I am building a smoke machine out of a nebulizer with my brother in law.
      there's always the possibility the leak wouldn't show with the smoke machine.
