Well congratulations! I was shocked at first, but then I realized that you are absolutely correct about how many original hours are on the 400. The tires on the tractor are Armstrong. They stopped making those tires in the early 80s. Check on the side of the tires, most of the time there is a casting date on the tires. Google how to find casting date on tires. Again congratulations on your purchase I believe that it's possibly the lowest hour tractor that you'll ever have. Like you said "it's a gem".👍

About 20 years ago, an elderly neighbor told me shortly he passed away to forget about putting your money in the bank. They will find a way to take it. Buy guns and old tractors. He was sure right. Congratulations on both purchases today.

Great deal on the plow. Also a good low hour tractor to add to the collection.
Ford 3000 went for the price of an 8N. Remember they bragged the engine for gas was designed for diesel first so it was tough.

You’re still at it LOL! When I fist started produce and feeder steers farming back in the 80’s I bought a Super M and a Super A off a lady who’s husband passed a week after they bought them! Took em home and gently started them up! Ran em for years

That 400 was my favorite of the bunch. Something I might consider is to send that original tach someplace to be redone since it’s a little rough. But then it may not pass as original, tough call.

You got the western fast hitch with the front cylinder and bracket on that tractor! A lot of times that front cylinder bracket gets taken off and tossed or pitched in the scrap! I got a tractor that I need one for, 400 propane!

Nice buys. We don’t see anything like that where I live. If we do they are much higher to buy or are total train wrecks. I had to buy a CaseIH needed to work now. I love it,it’s been a hard working machine for me. Still dream of owning an 706 or a 806. I do own a 1948 Cub and two A’s. Take care.

@@FarmallFanatic I am from north central texas. All the farms in this area are small family farms. Tractors are smaller. Most of the farmall we see are M’s and H’s. I started farming with a 504 farmall. Needed something bigger. You do what you have to, like I said CaseIH has been good for me.

Congratulations Gino. Nice 400. I had a 400 wide front, traded it along with a '64 706 diesel for the local dealers 1st 1460 axial flow combine in 1978. I replaced the 706 with a 67 706 gas. I have like the 67 better than the 64. I do miss the 400. That 450 looked especially sweet, and as you know the fast hitch is bolt on, so it could be added, but you ran it up plenty. There will be more

Congratulations on a nice 400. I pulled a 3 bottom like those with mine and it handled them good at 8-10" deep. I'm in Virginia and I have a little bit tighter ground than you do in western PA. Can't wait to see your videos when you get it home.

You have 2 point fast hitch equipment already so buying a tractor made sense. 3 point hook up was pushed as easier to attach but when they were showing the old 8N putting on tools it was perfectly lined up and a small implement was easy to budge. A four bottom plow does not budge that easy.
While the 450 is a beaut, you saved almost $3000 getting the 400 so that means you’ve got a good payment towards another tractor lol. Win win!

Very nice 400 and plow. Now find a guy with an Oliver Super 88 and do some comparisons. Very similar tractors in the power department. I really like the Waukesha 6 for baling hay though. That IH 4 just isn't as smooth with the pto. However, since you don't bale hay, I guess it's a moot point.

Do ever seen a 232 Farmall tractor gas one Gino at any sales and why ask my east neighbors on home farm area was a there big tractor on there farm not sure year was also more specs about but was not a row crop front but do remember was Powerfull!

You did steal that plow, but guys aren't plowing much any more. I can completely follow you on the reasoning. I'd still love to see what that MTA would have brought over this way. Either there's some reason they're selling for more over here or someone is over paying. I did see an MTA sell cheap to someone from Pennsylvania, but it was rough and didn't sell for much.
An MTA should go 6k to 8k in my opinion
