In my opinion, Vision3 processed in C-41 (what CineStill actually is, without remjet), has a serious problem with color crossover in green/magenta axis. Thus, it is almost impossible to print, unless you use digital editing, and correct these errors in post production. In darkroom, it takes a lot of test prints, and all pictures are not printable at all. When the pavement is gray (not magenta), the sky will be green.
Interesting... I'm a hybrid film shooter I suppose you could say, shoot film, send to lab, get digital files. If I won the lotto I'd set up a home printing lab and get someone to teach me, but until then I sadly don't have enough time. Thanks for watching!
That image with the sunset by Cleveland at 5:10 is stunning. Beautiful colors - definitely print worthy. I have yet to try pushing color film, but, then again, I don’t typically push BW either.

Natura was awesome all the time. Never found a situation that didn't produce great results. 400D however is another story. It produced many ruined shots of sunsets for me. The sunsets were pale yellows, pinks and orange, but the resulting 400D images were pale green with literally no distinction between colors...the yellow was green. The pinks were green. The orange was green. Other situations produced very good results with accurate colors. I'm very disappointed, but have a few more rolls to shoot. Hope it turns things around and impresses me. At least you got actual sunset colors.

I shot a roll of Natura 1600 at the Luminasia Chinese lantern event at the L.A. County fair at Pomona, California in 2014 or 2015 and was impressed by the results and then stored the images on the hard drive. Ran across them again in 2020 and posted on flickr. By then our local zoo in Palm Desert, Ca was having an evening lights festival for the winter holidays. I thought I should get some more. Much to my chagrin the Natura was discontinued and the price of remaining stock had reached astronomical prices. Thanks for doing this video. Now I can shot the festival on film this year and the newly added spring show next year.

the dynamic range is incredible for 2 stops pushed! I'm blown away by the shadow detail. Can you comment on metering technique for the shots with trickier lighting? I assume both cameras are centerweighted TTLs - would love to hear your process.
Agree! The dynamic range of 400D makes it fantastic for low light shooting. The T3 is centre weighted metering, not sure about the Natura but I'd say it's the same. With both cameras I choose where I want the focus (critical for when using the Natura at f1.9!) then half press the shutter and recompose. That sets the focus and how the camera meters. The only time I did anything different was for really dark scenes - I would sometimes half press the shutter at a brighter part of the scene in the T3 to get a faster shutter speed. I ordered 6 rolls through the Kickstarter, probably going to shoot at least 5 of them at 1600. I can't believe how good they look. Only got to shoot Natura once.
@@MattLovesCameras is there an indicator if the Natura is in NP mode or not? I just loaded it with a roll with a 1600 ISO sticker and I don't see any such indication on the screen and the top row is indicating it wants to use the flash.
@@editorinchimp Yes! So I discovered this the hard way ha ha 😅 Load your film up but don't pull the leader out as you don't want it to actually load in the Natura. Close the back door. If you've put the sticker on correctly, you'll see the NP logo on the back. If you haven't, it won't come up. Either way the film won't load of course without enough leader out, but you'll know that way. If NP did come up, open the camera up and pull the leader out across to where it should be and you're good to go! 😁
Those sunset shots are wonderful that 'glow' must have been something else in person. You piqued my interest with the Natura 1600 comparison because it was my favorite color film for the longest time. I really love the muted tones it produces.

I think NP mode might work best in indoor situations for my Klasse, so I'm annoyed I didn't take more photos indoors.

Really love the results. Mine is finally heading my way (should be getting it Monday). The sunsets over the water is my fav (I love a good sunset/sunrise photo). Hearing about these past films really leaves me wishing they were still around for me to try. As always great video!

I have never seen Natura or Superia 1600 for sale in the local stores around here. I only have access to Superia 400. Since I enjoy shooting in full sunlight, I'll also shoot some of my 400D at box speed - it just makes sense with my style of photography.

@@MattLovesCameras My dad kept chasing the perfect sunset photo with his Minolta AL-F, when I was a boy. I guess it's in my DNA, because I have shot sunsets myself on digital, Polaroid/Instax wide and 35mm film ever since. Giving 120 a shot seems like the next logical step...

Hi! You never really know with the T3, there are shutter speed indicators in the viewfinder but they're not exact. For example, commonly in low light situations both the 1/30 and 1/125 are lit up, meaning it's somewhere in that range.
Great video!! Since you were shooting the T3 and Natura side by side, how would you compare the cameras? Does the T3 live up to the hype? You seem to shoot a lot of point and shoot cameras. Do you have a favorite? Cheers!
Thank you Garon! They are 2 of my favourite P&S for sure. The Natura is a bit of a wide angle / low light shooter, while the T3 is a more all round camera. The T3 is certainly a beautiful camera, the images have a certain something that I don't see on other P&S. The Klasse is close to it though! I actually shot the Klasse and the T3 side by side and kind of forgot about those images, I should do a video about that...
Hey Anthony! I've taken a few indoor shots but mostly outdoor. I have another roll in my Natura now so I will try to get some more. I haven't been to a concert in such a long time ha ha, will try to get to one soon to shoot some pics!
There seems to be no definitive answer about this, however the last data sheets Fujifilm published for both films look very similar and the collective wisdom seems to be that they're the same emulsion. Happy to be proven wrong if someone has better proof than that 😊
Hi Frank, thanks for watching! I've never pushed 800T one stop, only Portra 800 and Lomo 800. The thing about 400D is that the D stands for dynamic and they are begging you to push it with those checkboxes on the canister. Would be a good experiment!

Hi Gabriela! There are no stickers with 400D, but there are 2 ways you can do this. First is by setting your ISO speed on your camera to 1600 if you can. As I couldn’t do that with the camera I used I bought ISO 1600 stickers online and stuck them on 😊
Hi John, did you watch the video? Both are excellent ways of shooting in low light situations hand held. Natura stocks are ageing and very expensive. Pushing 400D is an excellent alternative. Cheers Matt
@@MattLovesCameras Matt, yes I did watch the video. My gripe is with the clickbait title. Just because you can push something to 1600 doesn't mean it's remotely like Natura, a native 1600 speed film. Natura is a film that was meant to do a similar thing to Portra, with pastel colors and accurate skin tones. 400D is a repackaged Cinema emulsion which you are technically cross processing in C41 chemicals and in its original process is designed for maximum dynamic rang and to produce a flat low contrast negative which would allow flexibly when editing (as a motion picture again). In fact they're about as far apart as two modern color negative stocks could be. If someone just starting out watches this video they'll have no understanding of what kind of applications each film was originally made for.

I still have a few rolls of Natura, but I've shot about 8 rolls of 400D at ISO1600 and it has replaced Natura for me for low light shooting. So in that respect, it's the new Natura for me.
