Excellent video Trevor, really helpful mate. Followed your diagnostic path & sure enough it was a faulty egr cooler.
I wonder how many have misdiagnosed it as a head gasket problem. Anyway great thinking, keep 'em coming, I've just hit the subscribe button!

Bought an audi q5 few years ago . I check service history, has engine stripped looking for coolant leaks (2k bill) and after they changed the egr assembly another 800£. Basicly they opened the engine for no reason . Now after 3 years since i bought the car i have this symptoms : car sometimes don’t want to start , cranks until battery goes dead but starts immmediatly with battery starter ( this happens sometimes)and coolant gets out from bottle when i push the pedal more ( making like a foam inside the bottle from preasure ) , very inportant water temperature stays perfect it doesn’t go up on dashboard)Went to mechanic and he says (maybe head gasket) but i have a feeling is again some trouble egr cooler . Car is audi q5 , 2.0tdi , Cglb engine code 2012. On the exaust you can see white smoke sometimes

It’s no good checking this fault with the coloured head gasket fluid as it would give you the same results, from the egr or head gasket failure .
Normally with a head gasket failed and I will say normally 😳 the temp gauge goes up on acceleration, if badly gone it will just throw it on of the expansion tank
I have another test I’ve videoed but you going to have to find a garage to do this , and this will be easier said than done

Hi Trevor. Thanks for great video. Could the combustion gases get into the cooling system thru EGR cooler at all?

Hi sorry for the late come back yes I can see the exhaust gas’s getting in to the water system because it did fail the head gasket test , the liquid went from blue to yellow I hope this helps sir
