Good reaction - and you're right, their attention to detail is second to none and they put everything into giving the best possible live performance they possibly can every time they put on a live show. Having said that, it still all relies on the talents of Su, Yui and Moa first (now Su, Moa and the chosen Avenger) and of course the Kami Band to make it all work. They are fast approaching their 10th anniversary now and they have toured extensively and played so many different countries, festivals and different venues of all sizes from 150 to 55,000 capacity in that time, I think they proved and cemented their authenticity long ago.
Su had two solos on each of the first two albums that she would perform while Yui and Moa took a well earned break to catch their breath. 'Rondo of Nightmare' and 'Akatsuki' were on the first album, on the second 'Amore', which is not the same but also not entirely dissimilar to 'Akatsuki' and 'No Rain, No Rainbow' which is a throwback to the power ballads of the 80s and 90s. At the Legend 1997 show she also did an 'unfinished' (acoustic) version of 'Akatsuki' - just her voice with piano and strings - and in that you really do get the emotion the lyrics of the song deserve.
Yui and Moa also had two songs on each of those albums that they would perform as a duo (known as 'Black BABYMETAL') while Su got a break. Their songs are '4 No Uta' (Yui and Moa have full writing credits for lyrics and music on this - they were 12 when they wrote is so obviously the arrangement was not by them), 'Onedari Daisakusen', 'GJ' and 'Sis Anger'.
Having these Su solos and Black BABYMETAL songs to put into the shows also added to the variety of the production.

Oh trust that the Kami Band is loved by BabyMetal fans… The One. Mikio was a guitarist for the Kami Band had died from falling off an observation platform. Whenever BabyMetal performs “Shine” you will see… “RIP Mikio” … “We miss you, Mikio” … “Gone too early”. That’s how loved the Kami Band is. When Boh does his bass solos, the crowd goes wild. Even the Kami Band West, American musicians who take in the role of the Kami Band when the Japanese members aren’t available to join BabyMetal on world tours, are loved.

The Kami Band is loved by the fan base and the Kami love playing with BABYMETAL. Unlike their other support gigs, Kobametal, the producer, tells them to play all out and not hold back for Su-. The fact that Su- can ring out over this metal mayhem is what makes her a unique talent and the perfect lead for BABYMETAL.

First of all, Good luck to you and especially your wife living at ground zero right now. She's one of the heroes. I'm hearing there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. I hope that turns out to be true.
I will definitely agree that the live version is a lot better than the studio. Su's voice is so over-processed on the studio version I can't really listen to it.
I love the stage show that goes along with the music. With the type of music they play, a stage show is really a requirement. Can you imagine this song being played with Su and the band standing on one spot? I've heard people complain that a "Gimmick" distracts from the music or is a cover up for bad vocals or instrumentals. I don't think anyone could come to that conclusion with Babymetal.

Being this one my favorite song I really appreciate you liked it. I totally agree with you about all you commented on your reaction video. I'm glad you fully appreciated the guitar work on the solos part. That's sooooo cool! First the guitar solo duel then, harmonizing in a dual guitar solo. This is very hard to see (or hear) nowadays. And of course, Su's vocals are out of this world.
Again, you are totally right about the live performances being better than studio versions. I'll tell you a secret... well, not so secret: I don't listen to studio versions, just the first time. Instead of that I made a "daily" playlist full of their "best" live versions.

Kami Band is so damn good. You should react to Starlight. It is a song Babymetal wrote in honor of Fujioka Mikio, the lead guitarist of Kami Band who sadly passed away in 2018. He fell from an observation platform while stargazing, hence the title Starlight. This is also the time Yui Metal left the band. The song has a double tribute in a way. It is a bit more of a somber song, but the emotions, they will hit you in the feels.

So until my body perishes, until my life disappears, I shall keep on cherishing this love."
Hey Dannymik! Good reaction! "Akatsuki" is a very sad and tragic song about teenage love lost. I'm not sure how to feel when I hear this version of the song. The lyrics hit me in the feels, but the music is so upbeat and metal. I'm not sure if I should be crying or headbanging! Leda and Ohmura's solos are awesome in this version. I'll tell you something though, if you don't want to actually cry, don't watch this "unfinished" version: czcams.com/video/zS-gB0wYeM0/video.html
As for where the other girls are, this is one of Su-Metal's solos. She has two on each of the first two albums. Yui and Moa, as "Black BABYMETAL", also have two duets on each of their first two albums. They do this partly so that during live performances they can trade off and give each other little breaks.

Glad to see you back and reacting to BabyMetal . Respect to your wife and a thanks to you as well doing the reaction being on lockdown its a nice distraction to watch . Love this song as i love all Su solos even cover versions she has done . Love the Kamis and the western ones as well having seen both Bands live , but what sealed the deal for me was Su's voice and stage presence along with Yui and Moa who harmonize well with Su . Both talented singers and performers themselves. Su and Moa performed one of songs" Shine " as a duo at a show in Japan it's normally performed with 3 girls . Su main vocals with Moa doing backing vocals and one of Avengers making up the 3rd dancer.
This performance was fantastic and Moa vocals where louder in the mix the choreography was great and chemistry between them was off the scales in my opinion in this performance. They also have done of a performance of Road of Resistance with Su and Moa all 3 Avengers and both east and west kamis all on the stage at same time one hell of a way to finnish the show . You and family stay safe and look forward to your next BabyMetal reaction glad you stuck with them since your first reaction with an open mind . 🤟😁🤟

Nice words, I absolutely agree! There are so many facets about BABYMETAL that contribute to the whole package, and this song is a very good example. It has great vocals, a dynamic composition, beautiful melodies, fast heavy music, slow emotional music, awesome guitar solos and great musicianship overall, a cool stage and great presentation, even if the dancing and choreography fall a little behind, as the main dancers are missing. And finally someone mentions the bass part when the instruments set back in after the mellow middle section, I love that part!
I think most of us are well aware how great and important the Kami Band is for BABYMETAL. It’s strange that sometimes Kobametal (the producer and mastermind behind them) doesn’t seem to realize that. They deserve some more spotlight, but it seems like we are going in the opposite direction instead at the moment.

Miss Time Bunny is this the first you’ve seen of them at all, or have you seen his other (or other people’s) reactions?
If this is the first, let me refer you to some excellent songs: “Karate” and “Megitsune” are great songs to see the official videos for. However, their live performances are where it’s at, definitely. I’d suggest avoiding any videos from the Glastonbury Festival as it is a Hip-Hop/Pop festival so the sound mixing is way off for them, even though they still kicked ass. It just sounds awful.
As for live performance videos, where do I start? “Road of Resistance” live in Japan is a necessity, “Gimmie Chocolate” is fun to see a more pop side of their stuff, but it’s also the “WTF?!” song for most people because it is so different (and it’s most people’s first song they watch because I think it has the most views on here). “Pa Pa Ya” is a great new song. “Ijime, Dame, Zettai” live at Sonisphere 2014 is where they broke out in the western music scene. By the end of the song the crowd, who had no clue who they were before, were chanting for more! This is important because the girls were warned they could either be booed off stage, or even have bottles and stuff thrown at them.
There is also Black BABYMETAL, which is Yui and Moa (the dancers and background vocalists) singing their own songs, which are great. So many good songs, you can’t go wrong. Sorry for how long this is, but enjoy the trip down the foxhole (lots of backstory to that comment, just know it’s part of being a fan of theirs).

glad that you liked this song, bcoz i'm loved to see your appreciation for their talent has grown little by little everytime you reacted to their song.
fyi,.. this song is a homage to X-Japan song "Kurenai",..in Kanji Akatsuki("紅月") means Red(Aka) Moon(Tsuki) & has a reading Kurenai("紅"). also there's the Kanji ("暁") read as Akatsuki, means Dawn & Kurenai means Crimson Moon,..
the intro, chorus, duel guitar solo, bass beat & drum tempo very similiar to X-Japan song "Kurenai" & "Silent Jealousy",..
another Su-Metal solo song "No Rain No Rainbow" are also homage to X-Japan song "Endless Rain" & many 's believe it is also tribute to GnR song "November Rain".
X-Japan are living legend & a pioneers in Visual Kei Movement (similiar to Western Glam Rock). many bands, musicians & artist count them as an influence & look up to them. their music is like a "Bible" & even in Japanese Music Industry, everything is divided by the words "Before X" & "After X",..if you curious & want to react to their song, i suggest,.:

    czcams.com/video/1bvREd9ZQVQ/video.html

There's parts of it that I don't "appreciate" during my reaction. So, some of the poppy tones work for some reason. Most of it is because she really is a GREAT vocalist. The band itself is a whole different element but I've grown to appreciate them more as well. I remember playing Guitar Hero and that one song by DragonForce was craziness. I never liked that super fast style and I hear that with these guys in certain parts. However, it's like anything else, you hear it enough times and it starts to click. The irony of you saying the Kami band doesn't get enough recognition right before the guitarists get their time to shine though :D... Jokes aside, I think you're wrong there. Not in the sense that they deserve to be praised for what they bring to BABYMETAL, but for the recognition the band (and the fans) have given them. Remember they're session musicians, paid to play during concerts, but they do not write the songs (well, apart from a few exceptions like Leda Cygnus on No Rain No Rainbow).
The Kamis, once again, are a very beloved part of BABYMETAL by the fanbase. I want as much involvment of the Kamis during the concerts as possible, as a metalhead and a musician, I can only appreciate when the musicians get their recognition and their praise and their moments to shine and express their talent. But at the same time I recognize that really BABYMETAL is about the girls first. They're the faces of the band.
That aside, I really enjoyed your reaction and I appreciate the fact you're giving us updates on how you feel about the band as you continue your journey of discovering them. Would you go see them live if they toured near you ?

BOH had addressed this back in a 2014 interview for Hedoban magazine. He was fine with the relative background in part because he was aware the fans knew all the names of the kamiband members. Another time he expressed how much he enjoyed working with Babymetal and went out of his way to accept Babymetal contracts whenever he could. He was also very impressed by the "trio's appetite for performance."

I really hope that they get rid of the masks that they have the band wearing lately. I can’t imagine that they’re comfortable to play in, and as an audience member I’m watching the show for the kamis just as much as I am for the girls. Unfortunately they just seem to be pushed into the background more lately :(

On point comments about what goes into the production. I like Babymetal, and at the same time, it's just a different thing from Band-Maid, who found each other and started playing with no safety net. Babymetal were assembled by a production company with huge resources. It still deserves a lot of credit, because most such projects flop, only a few make it. But that's the reason for the difference in "authenticity".

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 Před 4 lety +7

That is how it looks to us in the west, but Babymetal were put together not by a production company, but by just one man who saw the potential of a young girl and formed his idea around her talents. The company they worked for considered the whole idea as madness (there was no profit to be made from metal in Japan at that time as it got no air time and sales and audience numbers were dropping for metal and rock bands and had been on the decline for a while by then) that would never make them any money and would last just a couple of years as a sub-unit of the Idol group Sakura Gakuin and would end when Su graduated. They provided no extra budget whatsoever beyond what they were giving the parent Idol group, so Babymetal had to be self-funding, even borrowing clothes to make their first stage costumes.
They played tiny venues with a capacity of 150 people and in food courts in their first solo shows as the girls learned their trade. They gained their success from their own efforts and hard work and through the vision of their producer, working their way up against all the odds and all expectation from being the 'ignored' sub-unit of an Idol group to being the only sub-unit from that group to separate and to become an independent band in their own right and only when they started earning money for the parent company were they then provided with the financial backing that we see given to their productions now.
Their start was not through what we might consider usual and recognised channels in the west, but they only came to be because of their talents, were given nothing on a plate and are as "authentic" in that respect as any band that started in a garage.

Subscribed after watching this - now gonna go back and check your other Babymetal (and Bandmaid) videos. I've been a Metal and Rock head since I saw Sabbath and Zeppelin in the late 70's and Babymetal are really what the Metal scene needed to freshen it up (I was a bit jaded after 44 years of listening), just as Band-Maid are doing for the Rock scene. I saw Babymetal live in February and they were beyond brilliant. Their live performances are epic and there are two I'd like to recommend to you for watching some time. Their first UK appearance at a Metal fest, in front of 65,000 Metal heads waiting to see Metallica, Ijime, Dame Zettai - czcams.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/video.html - and Headbanger, live in Japan in front of just 20,000 - czcams.com/video/YjjWZpf_jSs/video.html . As for Band-Maid, they are releasing a DVD of a gig from a couple of months ago on the 29th April and they've released one of what I'd have to say is the best live Rock song I've seen in a decade, called Domination. There is another version out there but this is most recent - 14th Feb - and is in your face hard Rock: czcams.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/video.html . Great reactions and comments on the Kami band's musical abilities and also on Su's superb voice (she's a soprano with a range of C4 to G#4 - and even a G#6 when she screams on a particular song!) so I've subscribed in hope of hearing and watching more Babymetal and BandMaid reactions. A big hats off to your wife for doing what she does in these hard times and may you both stay safe out there in the world.
