    I own both Fluval and Eheim cannisters, but my personal favorite for the money is the Penn Plax Cascade 1500. Amazon has it for $130 and I'll take that over a Fluval 407 every time. Better overall filter for a lot less.

      I appreciate this!!

      Is the Penn Plax Cascade 1500 noisy?

    • @stepheng3378
      @stepheng3378 Před měsícem

      @@iodaguild1183 A little less noise then a Fluval 407, and a lot less noise then a Fluval FX6 (But the FX6 runs a 125g alone). I have two aquariums with a Penn Plax 1500 coupled with another filter. One is matched with a Fluval 407, and the other is paired with a Polar Aurora (525gph). In both setups, the Penns are the quieter of the two. Still you will hear the occasional gurgle from some air in the system, but overall pretty quiet. BTW, I sit right next to the Penn 1500/Fluval 407 and both together in an open tank stand base don't bother me. But I can't speak for what you might find acceptable.

      For those wondering why two filters. Well for two reasons. After having ran 1 cannister per aquarium for most of my adult life, I now run two on my large tanks to give me some overlap. That is, two intakes, two outlets, which allows for a more even distribution and coverage of the tank from end to end. And finally, to give me a longer period between cleaning/maintenance, which also allows me at those times, to stagger the clean/maint rotation. So one filter is always running undisturbed, while the other gets it's maintenance/cleaning. After a period of time for the newly cleaned filter to reestablish, I then clean the other. No nasty spikes this way. And I like to run DIFFERENT filters together. NEVER two from the same maker. I've found strengths and weaknesses from EVERY maker I've used. Mixing brands gives me a better overall result IMO. YMMV.

    Is this a music video? The emphasis and complaints below are about filter noise. Thank goodness for subtitles.

    I have the aqueon quietflow 400 and i hate it. After 1 month it became loud and sounds like its grinding. The hoses on it are way too stiff and he is right that priming it and cleaning it is a pain in the ass. Soon upgrading all my tanks to the fluval fx6

    They don't make them anymore but the original Rena Filstart XP series canister filters were one of the best canister filters that was ever made. Just recently aquired a NOS XP-L and was stoked to get it.

      They are from the older model. They were there for you to put the last time you did a water change and filter cleaning.

    Just to add I have the fx6 and I’m sending it back . The pump noise takes over my lounge so it’s not 50 decibels

      My wife hates the FX6 on our 125g. The hum/vibration is louder than any filter I've ever used. I've tried isolating pads of various types, which help some, but overall it's just louder than others. BUT, it does the best job of running that tank than any filter I've ever used. So there are some trade offs. I find it louder than I prefer, but still bearable. But tolerances vary ...

    On the OASE, does anyone know if you can just not use the heater? Is there a way to turn it off or does it have a separate plug?

    • @RH_01779

      The heater has a separate plug. And you can take it out all together

    I am happy that I get rid off fluval 407. It is promising a lot in many adverts but its a crap that is built for making money on replacement parts. The most robust is jbl. My e702 is having now over 10 years on original gaskets.
