Random question what are those wire that you disconnected from the side of the transmission

The one in the back by the driveshaft was the speed sensor for the Speedometer and the other one is the reverse light switch

What year is your Comanche? Did it come stock with the Ax15?

1991 and yes the AX 15 and Dana 44 were stock. I pulled the build sheet by the VIN and verified.

What was wrong with your original transmission?

the synchronizers were bad. It wouldn't go into first gear and 3rd grinded very bad. Shifts like butter now!

How do you know what 5 speed you have. My truck is a 89 with a 4.0 5 speed dana 35 axles
