JUNK Glass For A JUNK Car - Installed With A Hammer? The Worst 1957 Chevy

- Glass Day!
Have I mentioned how much I hate installing glass? This ratty 1957 came in pieces, so many pieces. Luckily a bunch of side glass and window regulators came with the car. All the side glass was mis matched colors but I installed it all anyways to close the car in.
The only part of new glass was the windshield from my buddies at Auto City Classics. Like always the windshield was a trick to fit but we got her roped in.

Lifetime mechanic here too. I give you a 100% on doing your own damn thing and tackling shit some of us would never attempt. whole lot more skills than alot of other so call experts. Dont listen to haters . You 2 are nailing it in your own style. 👍👍
Thanks buddy!
That’s a fact !!
Amen brother.
Not everybody can jump in there and do the work that you do. Is it perfect, no, but who gives a shit! The only person you got to please is yourself. It's just good to see that we still have some young people enthusiastic about old cars.
dan you never cease to amaze me. i've watched you from your first video and number of cars that you've brought back from the dead is simply amazing and while working a full time job and not to mention the amount of time you put in to these videos. thanks for all your hard work dude
Absolutely well said. Amazing work load.
Thanks for watchin guys!
Dani: DD Speed Shop's built on embarrassing moments! It's our bread and butter. It's who we are as people.
Dan: You ain't wrong about that.
Us: This is why we've here!
Haha truth!
A tri 5 without a windshield is like looking at grandma without her teeth in
Very true
I'd be curious to know how much sleep Dan gets on average? As a mechanic for 20+ I can say say this dude don't stop!! He's goin places for sure.
He's still young!!!😂😂
Wait until he's 45 with broken parts!!😜
@@dsc420247 Amen brother or 62 staring you in the face!😆
@@dsc420247some people just have more drive than others.
He's a machine for sure!
One of the guys at his job says he sleeps there!! 🤣🤣
amazing the transformation of the front glass install to how the car jumps out at you...impressive, yet simple.
Oya. Tri 5s need glass.
We like the embarrassing moments! As they say, If something is going to easily, something’s wrong! 😂
"Hey there, DD Suffer Shop here. Todays suffering will involve a lack of tools, lost screws and I'm not sure what I was doing..... Gawd I love ths channel. So relatable for ll us back yarders Awesome stuff Dan and Danni.
Haha thanks!
Dan you are kind of a history teacher for tri 5s, I was born in 57 you are bringing back my youth
Clutch head screws are what were used from factory on many places, including the window regulators.
Ehhhh wrong, Phillips with star washers X 4
I live how you judge yourself so hard. Yet in the end you get the job done. ❤
The trailer queen jab at Newbern right at the end is classic and never gets old!
Thanks for saving this car. Love them. You are an old school guy. Back in my day we worked on cars just like this. Pieced alot of cars together when you tube was a dream. Keep doing your own thing.
This 57 is gonna be so cool!!love your style of builds Dan!
That front glass sure adds a lot to the look of the 57 . Keep them coming Dan .
I really don’t know how to say this. But I love the episodes. You do like this where you’re not only upbeat, but honest and almost funny without deliberately trying to be funny. Without trying to be fake about being funny. If so, much better than the almost disconnected, like a guy going to a job that he doesn’t really like melancholy feel. I love episodes you do like this there are so much more enjoyable.
Thank buddy. I really appreciate the kind words!
@@DDSpeedShop effing talk to text. I’m glad you understood what I said. I hate talk to text, but it always screws up what you’re trying to say. Yet I still keep using. It says more about me than anything else.
I LOVE THIS STAGE OF THE BUILD!!! It's the part where Dan has MORE SMILES 😁 and less frowns. He starts out all chipper & happy, like the Mr. Rogers morning greeting. "Won't you be my neighbor!". Sweet Hardtop Dan and can't wait to see it cruise, YOU ROCK DAN! Just had to blurt out that one. DAN & DANI ARE the coolest👍. I can't help myself. Anyway, stay warm 🥵 in the Arctic out there, and thanks for creating another gem video 📸.
Thus is the fun part
The hardest working guy on CZcams!! Love the build. Makes me want a tri five!
Thanks!
The glass really makes it..I'm glad you are clearing over the paint that's there
It takes real stones to tackle all the glass on a tri-five hardtop! From all the regulators, guides, tracks, rollers, flippers and trim, much of these parts are for the rarer hardtop only! It's nice to have another hardtop to look at but, you don't even have that! Like launching a boat at the boat ramp, you don't want your wife/GF helping on this job either! (Ask me how I know) Dan at HAFF Rods has a lot of great tutorials on his amazing '55 hardtop that he built in his playlists, including everything door flippers. I have a lot of sedan stuff but, may have some hardtop stuff from our '55 hardtop frame off build. I know I have a lot of the shorter/wider hardtop wind wing glass items that I have no use for. The front/rear windshield stainless trim is also different, including the upper rear window corner pieces being a different angle from the sedan. So cool to see you finally have a have a hardtop and yes, green glass is the only way to go! Great video and proof positive that you have mad skills and can tackle any project with ease! Take care and stay warm up there!
Man I love watching the old cars come back to life DD Speed Shop style. Trying to stay warm over here in Alberta 🥶
Funny how we're watching his videos, while he's watching other videos to teach us what has to be done. Dan a mechanical, tech savvy genius.
If you fail to learn , you learn to fail . Looking at videos and reading how too's and looking at detailed pic's is the smart way . Dan's got it going on ! Just look at what he gets done .
I'm learning every day like the rest of ya
It's been cold here in Oshawa but staying indoors, watching Dan fight with the glass is there for entertainment. It is amazing how much you know about these cars tho', Dan.
Never really thought about using a '57 Chevy front fender as a welding table, but yeah...works for me too!
Hi from Cawker City Kansas USA, where the world’s largest ball of twine is. My husband and I love watching your episodes 👍
I have to say Dan is way more patient than I would’ve been doing this! My last tri 5 was a 57 150 Handyman wagon, no back windows! Lol
Haha can't get mad with glass
Hey Dan I learned a valuable lesson on glass slides, an track rails slime them down with silicone grease!! Windows will be like on budda.. regardless of the temperature or humidity..
Learned this replacing my glass on my 69' Mountain Lion..
Dan we live vicariously through you in so many ways...
LOL Dan...34:05...oh Sh&* the piece fell off. Thanks for the videos Dan. You still inspire me to get going on my projects.
You were right Dan, the windshield makes a big difference. Nice job.
Hi Dan I just wanted you know that your show is a very good reflection of what real life is ,Your desire to see what can be done with the minimum parts and a lot of hard work, and Danny,s support. I wish I was your neighbor. Frank
Thanks frank!
That's a great glass video, I have only one experience doing a windshield on a vehicle, was a new rubber seal for a 67 VW baja bug where the original seal was so hard and cracked that the windshield was in danger. Regulators, door glass mechanisms,..some are such a chore, especially those rivetted in.
Like you said Dan, you work with what you got !!! That`s keeping in the Hot Rod Tradition. In keeping with the theme of the car, keep the tinted/non-tinted glass in it. It`s perfect !!! You guys are Great !!! Way to Spark A.C. !!!
Just tap it in....tap,tap,tap it in...Thanks for giving glass guy's world wide heart palpitations Looking good Mr. Dan.
Hey guys I was the one that that talked to newborn at airport about his trailer queening expression you gave him.also get you a suction shower handle to ease glass install there cheap
i love this car ... my fav build and you're rocking it . that whole segment on the passenger door welding , crap falling off the car , short hose , lost a piece , which way does it go ? is so reminiscent of fiascos in my garage . lol 😂
Still don't know how you have the patience to work on those rusty buckets of bolts, BUT, I'm really glad you do! It's truly amazing how they turn out. Fantastic video as usual.
I can't afford the non rusty ones haha
Love the hood scoop! My dad used to make them in fiberglass.
Your 57 Chevy is looking awesome indeed. It coming along sweet indeed. Keep up the great work.
Gotta love making it up as you go. Like you said that windshield makes all the difference. Coming together.
whoa whoa whoa, rear roll down windows with regulators?? thats just crazy talk right there!! ;-)
Yep..awesome..always clearly explained..think you could put a 55-57 together in your sleep...would be golden..if Classic 55-57 parts might help..you've saved your share of them..thanks for having fun in January in the garage
Hammers are the perfect tool to install glass 😂 I was hoping nothing would go wrong and behold the windshield is installed 👍 no cracks 😂 you got a combination of clear and Green Glass so you please everyone😉 Way to go Dan 👏 the car is coming along great so keep up the good work 👍✌️🇺🇲
It’s looking so good with the extra chrome trim on it. Very cool ride. Keep up the great work Dan. 👍😎✌️
Always, always rewarding to watch Dan and Danie stretching credibility and winning! You guys are unmissable and make my day, thank you for that!
Dan buy a couple of glass suction cups so you can put the glass in hole easier! The real trick is to put downward pressure on glass out side as some one pulls the string. life saver so to speak. Makes it simpler.
Didn’t expect to be into this car, but I’m digging it. Keep up the good work! Cant wait to see it on the road!
Dan’s knowledge of these cars is amazing. Thanks for sharing with us.
Dan, the man is a machine he just keeps ongoing.
What he doesn’t know, he knows someone who does. I would have needed 4 videos to get the side glass figured out. Thanks for showing the struggles and what it takes to put it together. Start with a fender and a couple episodes later he’s made it into a running, driving car.
You tube videos make the world go round.
I can remember as a child my mom had a nomad, pretty sure it was a 59, I remember riding in the very back of it all the time, not in a seat, no seat belts. Way it was in the mid 60's. Always fought with my siblings to sit in the back. The car sat in my folks yard well into the 80's, just rotted away. Sad
Dan....You need a back bumper sticker that says " Don't laugh it's almost paid for"
57 is coming together Dan, it's gonna be a really cool car man 👍👍
Hey Dan, this was the first video I actually screamed at you to stop with the hammer. I couldn't even watch, thought for sure it was going to crack. Love your channel and videos. Take care and be safe.
I've been watching your show pretty much from the beginning, never a dull moment and always entertaining i love what you do with all your projects as long as your on the tube I will always be watching looking foward to the next one
Dan, thank you for what you do. Showing the issues and the problems. We all, and I mean all of us, go through the same thing every project. I have your back, you crazy Canadian. Thank you, Dan and Danni.
Thanks buddy! Appreciate it!
That car kinda looks like a ransom note with letters cut from several different places 😂 I would love to see side pipes on that old girl. ❤
Hahaha
"Ransom Note." What a great name for a bits-n-pieces hotrod build like this!
To be able to give metal a life, a running vehicle is just amazing.
Love it, it's properly shitty,. You can always be on the lookout for the right stuff but you still get to drive it around while you do
Love seeing that 57 come together
I love that you’re just clear coating it, it’ll look badass. I love the rat look it has
No one can say anything about those door windows until you have had the pleasure of succeeding at em. Every different vehicle has a special way those regulators go in. 😊
Yeah they where a little tough haha
Sir, are you paying Mortske advertisement? He mentions you in every video he comes out with lately. Love your content! You are alright for a Canada guy! Stay blessed
Good morning all. Thanks for the tri 5 content Dani and Dan.
Looking good . I put glass in my 68 d-100 got it all the way in and was trying to get it to seat in the rubber and broke it . Had to start over . So you do good .
“just when I think you couldn’t be any funner, you hammer on a windshield…and Totally Redeem Yourself!”
I love what you two do & produce. those that don’t can all go ____ in a hat. thanks for delivering so much content for us (especially moi) to cyberslack with. it’s been super chilly down here in Dixie, so I know your noses & your toeses are feeling it up there. thanks again. don’t get none on ya’s, D&D
Haha thanks buddy
Thanks for sharing love this build ....Dons hot rod garage might have your trim
"And I probably won't trailer it around!" Dan, you are cold! And I am not referring to the weather.
Haha
I'll say this much, you make what you have work and it usually turns out good!!
No one will be able to tell the glass doesn't match when it's outside under 4 feet of snow!
somebody is up early on a Sunday.
Hi Dan, from snowy Surrey, BC.
music has a zz top flavor . "cool" nice job sir. "windows" where's mer! staying warm?
glad you are staying somewhat warm. we are already back to liquid sunshine and 40 out.
You should have Newburn bring the parts to help and experience a Winterpeg cold snap, I am sure it would make great content for both of you.
Before watching your videos, I never realized just how many models and trim levels tri five Chevys came in. I thought there were 2 doors, 4 doors, and wagons, in 2 trim levels, not including the Nomad. The one to have was, IMO, the 1957 Bel Air 2 door hardtop. I will never have one, even a halfway decent one costs $100,000 in the U.S.
I have installed a lot of glass in trucks and VW Bugs, rubber seal only, no chrome trim. I used soapy water, a roofing knife, and heavy weed whacker string. I was able to do most of them by myself.
That hood seriously needs to go. It's a FORD hood.
Glass does make a big difference to bring the look together ,Dan ! don't know about the clear coat over the moss stuff ? Ow I thought you had at least one of the trim pieces for the back of rear side window ,thought I saw it in a past video when you were look through the parts that came with it or you stacks !
This car is awesome Dan...paint if hot rod red.
See you in March guys
Coming along nicely Dan
Finally a hockey reference. Was starting to think you weren’t really Canadian haha.
Found your channel a few months ago. Really in joy your builds.
Haha thanks buddy
looks like winter fun!
My Buick 4 door hardtop rear door windows do the same dance. That is so they can lower past the rear wheel tubs.
Quote of the Day. "Just like Newbern's but I will not trailer it around" 🤣😂🤣😂
watching you struggle with the window regulators, I think Lithium Grease might work better than WD40 for them while you still have the door panels off.
This Chevy is a 2door hard with a regulator for the back seat “movable glass” Dan no wonder you’re having trouble putting the regulator in. Usually glued in Nice video Dan
I can’t wait to see this car together and driving! It’s gonna be cool 😎
Coming along good.Dan your a great teacher.
Can’t wait to see this engine come together.
When it comes to roping in windows this isn't Dan's first rodeo lol 😂 . Looks great Dan 👍
Thanks!
Recently I've seen quite a few You Tubers complaining about how hard it is to put out a weekly video. How is it that DD Speed Shop can put one out almost every day? Plus work a full-time job!
I'm not to smart haha
I like the Steve Miller 80’s music! Honestly 👍🏼
Hey Dan,you could probably use tint film to match all the windows
Good Sunday morning 👍🏼
Cool, now I know how to put the front window in
I must of missed you saying you have the “felt” that go in window channel to keep glass from rattling. It’s universal just measure channel width and height comes in big pieces
Got my Motorcycle Waxed oil changed waiting for snow to go away . Dan ❤
Looking great!
Looking good it has windows and getting close to the finish line
It can go in four ways, one correct way and three others that require a grinder and a welder.
great video. you guys are such a great team !!!!!
Thanks double d for content and keep it coming.
