This reminds me of taking Singapore Airlines from Manchester to Munich a few years ago. I was used to no-frills Easyjet or frugal Lufthansa economy on narrow-body jets. And then i was quite surprised when I walked up to the gate as the huge 777 with its massive engines was waiting for us few passengers. The interior was comfy and plush, and the price was actually better than Lufthansa or Easyjet on that route, considering I needed checked luggage.

Woohoo! I always love a 5th freedom video and a Singapore Airlines intra-European one is the cherry on top! I got to fly their old route from CPH to FCO in 2021 before they cut that one off sadly. Also perfect timing for me cos on Friday I'll be flying Emirates' fifth freedom route from Malta to Larnaca, Cyprus on their 777 for my birthday, cos who doesn't love spending the day onboard widebody aircraft flying across the Mediterranean 😅

I flew Singapore Airlines by accident. We were booked on BA from ABZ to BNE. Due to storms in London, we misconnected. The flight the next day must have been full because BA flew us home on Singapore Airlines. They were great.
BA actually has fifth freedom rights between Sydney and Singapore

    Other widebody flights in Europe:
Scoot Boeing 787 between Berlin and Athens
Emirates Boeing 777 between Larnaca and Malta
Finnair Airbus A350 between Heathrow and Helsinki

There are a lot less now that British Airways retired their Boeing 767s. I also flew Amsterdam-Moscow on an Aeroflot A330 around 5 years ago, and I also had a British Boeing 747-400 from Moscow to Heathrow a couple of years prior to that. There are some Turkish wide bodies from Berlin and Frankfurt to Istanbul, do these count? These are all widebodies in Europe but obviously not 5th freedom.

It's always good to see a fifth-freedom check, Dom. That sector came about during the pandemic when SIA began to restart its European routes. There wasn't, at that time, the demand for separate flights to Milan and Barcelona hence the idea of this triangular routing. Fifth-freedom rights today are highly political and difficult to obtain ... as Emirates discovered when it wanted to operate Milan-New York (the Rome gov't refused to grant traffic rights but the Milanese won in the end !)

Also fun fact, when I flew SQ from CPH to FCO, we actually didn't have to go through border control as they cleared all the inbound pax from SIN in CPH and the flight was contained within the schengen gates in Copenhagen. So I guess in your case they don't clear the SIN passengers in Milan before continuing onto BCN

Theres a few widebody routes already been mentioned but as well as Madrid to Barcelona Aer Europa often Fly 787s around Europe between Madrid and Paris/Tenerife Norte/Gran Canaria/Milan/Amsterdam and Rome. During the summer TUI fly their 787s between Manchester and Palma,Menorca,Corfu,Rhodes, Tenerife,Gran Canaria. Jet2 (air Tanker) fly there A330's to Palma, Tenerife and a couple of others. Aer Lingus use their A330s between Dublin and Malaga/Tenerife and 1 flight a day to Heathrow. Turkish fly A330s between Istanbul and Heathrow and also sometimes Manchester.

RE: Wide body aircraft within Europe, during peak season British Airways & Iberia regularly use Airbus A350 & Boeing 777, I know someone who commutes between LHR-MAD at least twice a month , It's normally full and she now knows its best to walk to the galley to get a drink as they Iberia cabin staff can be a wee bit forgetful some times.
She did get a seat first class in a BA A350 as a large school group wanted to sit together .

@alexmcwhirter6611 but there is demand I mean isn't every single airline both low cost snd full service revenue conceince regardless
We are living in 2024 not 1994 the idea of going dien South to change or transfer through London shouldn't be a thing anymore
We need choice and variety I mean Emirates a380 evrn one flightv a day not enough we need double daily
Plus Singapore Airlines,,cathay pasfic among other need to operate in the North like Newcastle or even Edinburgh would be ideal there University and business thzt would welcome Singapore Airlines among other to Scotland I mesn hiw long are we going to wait even til 2030 or 2040 or 2050 before we see Singapore Airlines operate from either Glasgow or Edinburgh
