The Cornish pasty thing was an empanada, they originated in Galicia, Spain, which shares cultural links with the rest of the western European seaboard. So, maybe it was influenced by the Cornish pasty, or vice versa?

How did you find the price difference between English and Spanish Aldi. When I was visiting the UK a few months ago I was completely shocked how expensive even the lower cost shops had gone

Love Aldi but my local store is like 8 miles away , though the way Tesco are inflating their prices i may shop at Aldi soon as everything is like half the price there compared to tesco

Actually it's the other way round we have Aldi Sud in the UK America does as well, and some other European countries. They basically split Germany in two with one brother having stores only in the North of the country and the other operating in the south of the country. Google aldi nord and aldi sud.
Also in America aldi nord own trader Joe's, so America is the only place outside of Germany to have both versions.
Aldi sud is blue background on the "A"logo and nord is white background on the "A" logo

All the Aldi's I have been to in the UK have been crap. They lack the variety of you get in Europe, and I can say most of the UK Aldi's are dumps. the customers in the Uk have no respect for other people's property, the staff in the Uk don't care there is no facing up and most of all the UK stores are always out of stock of the basic items.
I think the staff are store dependant as my local one, the staff are great, but you're right about the stock, i see new things coming out but they hardly ever have it in.
