Self Titled is and has always been my favorite Deftones record!! Battle Axe, Bloody Cape, N&P, Hexagram, Aniversary fuckin dark and emotionally heavy shit.
I can't describe in words what this band means to me. For some reason, I feel in their songs exactly what I need right now. Deftones is the voice of my depression and salvation from it.
Never thought we’d see the music video for Bloody Cape in HD or at all honestly but i’m glad we got it, It’s such a blessing to see Chi again as well. We miss you Chi

Bloody Cape has long been my favorite song on Self-titled and just one of the best Deftones songs period.

I feel like a criminally large amount of people ignore the bassline during the verses, Chi completely elevated that song to a whole new level in terms of atmosphere

@@danielsgrunge When it first came out, it was rough to accept it because people would compare it to Adrenaline and WP. It has bangers, but comparatively, we were thinking something even better than WP was about to hit. Self-title isn't better than WP, but I definitely got around to respecting it as what it is fully 2-3 years after its release.
It was an ok album for me when coming off the high of around the fur especially and white pony. I always leaned more toward around the fur being their best album but shift sometimes towards white pony being better and when self titled came out it wasn’t topping either. Also this is when I believe chino switched up his scream, possibly do to vocal damage when during white pony. So that really turned me off but going back to the album, it’s definitely solid af and sometimes I wish Stef would just go back to a seven string and just bust out the 8/9 string on an occasional track.

I'm no rocket surgeon, but I don't think that feeling requires much time passing. Plus time seems to flow differently when you're young with little perspective. I remember feeling nostalgic at 9 years old when the first Third Eye Blind album came out lol. That song The Background did a number on me.

I couldn't agree more. One the greatest of all times. Their symbolism, their branding, lyrics, live shows all, I mean all are absolutely phenomenal.
Such a badass, yet underappreciated Deftones song. Chino’s ending screams always give me chills. I’ve never heard someone wail so painfully like a banshee.

Deftones’ self titled is honestly my favorite by them. It’s like shoegaze-y metal, with the unique flair only they can offer.
First one I obsessively rushed out to buy on CD, and played it like crazy. So it holds a special place.

It’s pretty amazing how well Deftones has fused the most hard rock with melancholy melodies and they seem to get better with time which is not typical at all.

Deftones self titled album had the biggest effect on me. I listened to it from start to finish more than any other album. Absolutely loved this track. Needles and Pins is probably my favorite. 🤘🏻

MTV 2 was my 2nd finding of them as when your 12-20somthing Years Old Without The Age Of Smart Phones It Makes You Appreciate Those Little Moments

I'm originally from the Bay Area, but moved to Sacramento about 11 years ago. I've been a fan of Deftones since Adrenaline came out and I'm in my mid-30's now. I have no idea how this song slipped under my radar for so long.
Seeing the intro of this music video with the iconic Tower Bridge and then the riff hitting and the breakdown, it's incredible man. Chills.

After two decades it's like striking gold all over again. Hearing this during my small town Texas high school years made me feel like the world was larger, vibrant, and experimental. I found raw optimism in these tracks. So glad I've grown up with this album.

This song is such a vibe
To me there's always shades of grey and darkness but also light in Deftones music. This album though to me imo quite frankly is one of their there bleakest, darkest if not the most challenging and least commercial sounding work and is all the more powerful for it. It's very ethereal like Gore but much darker. I love it when they blend both of those style's. I find it incredibly hard to place where I put this in their discography because I don't really do lists especially when it comes to Deftones. Their self titled is an absolute gem of an album. My personal favourites when it comes to how their album's flow and the dynamics and contrast heavy and melodic. I'd go Koi No Yokan and White Pony and I'm loving Ohms at the moment. That album I loved immediately yet it is still growing on me and surprises me with how layered it is. Love this band.

How absolutely amazing it is to see this remastered version! Our beautiful Chi looks even better and this being the 10 year anniversary of his passing just last month. I can't believe this is also 20 years since the release of this masterpiece from my favorite band! Chino, Steph, Abe, Frank and Chi (RIP), you guys are the GOAT. Love you guys so much! The guitar tones on this album were flawless - raw & heavy, but with crisp string definition. I do also enjoy the modern 8-string chugs, but nothing beats S/T vibes. Also that ending riff still slaps as hard as it did 20 years ago.

Maybe a hot take, but I think the self-titled is the best Deftones album and this is one of the best songs on it. When the breakdown hits with that staccato riff it just unleashes all the emotions. I was absolutely blown away by that in 2003 and 20 years later it still blows me away.

But the self-titled album is more grunge, more impulsive, sometimes the riffs beat in one chord, which makes them sound harder, like at the end of this particular song. @@mikeeclipse I had a seasonal job with the US census bureau in 2010, and it was mostly me driving around with my windows down and blasting diamond eyes from 1 area to the next, then on top of that I had a nice girl named Mia as my partner and she would be jamming with me while I was driving... She didn't know Deftones before then, their music has seriously helped a lot of memories. We had so much fun brother. I'll buy you a beer if you ever come over to see them live here in Texas. We typically go see them here at least twice(2 different cities) when they tour here. Cheers 👍
