Iguatemi São Paulo is a shopping mall in the city of São Paulo, capital of the homonymous Brazilian state. It is managed by Iguatemi Empresa de Shopping Centers SA. It is also the first mall in Latin America, the first mall built in Brazil and also one of the most famous malls in the city of São Paulo. It is considered one of the most popular shopping centers in Brazil, having national importance, according to Exame magazine. Located on Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima (formerly Rua Iguatemi), in Jardim Paulistano, district of Pinheiros, in the region known as Jardins, it was opened in November 1966, seeking inspiration in a new concept of commerce that was starting in the world. The Iguatemi Paulistano is considered, by its official website, by some press agencies, and by the Associação Brasileira de Shopping Centers as being the first shopping center in Brazil, although there are some controversy in relation to Shopping do Méier, located in Rio de Janeiro Iguatemi has the largest number of national and international brands and is marked by the sophistication of its interior.[citation needed] It has six cinemas, two bank branches and 330 stores, four of which are anchors (Pão de Açúcar Especial, C&A, Lojas Americanas and Zara).
