i love how the 3rd tier persona's are the 'true' versions of their originals. like they've removed their masks and are fully proud of who they are in a way :3 its really clever. Persona has always had some great symbolism
I'd also add that all the 3rd tier Personas have a "modern" or even slightly futuristic bent to them in terms of design like Lucy and Hereward (one of my personal favorites) and William and Al Azif. I like to think it represents how everyone is choosing to focus on the present, and move towards their future showing they've "liberated themselves" from their past trauma.

Oddly enough, Loki uses its right hand to swing the sword and cast spells with it. Could be a metaphor to saying how Loki isn't Akechi's true self, but just his chaotic side.

Kind of sucks how Hereward and Ella are both unobtainable normally until the very last day. They're the most unique and coolest looking third tier personas. Especially love how Ella throws her bouquet backwards in the style of a bride during weddings.
They will just keep the tier 1 like they did with Scramble or with the P4 cast in Arena games because "they are more iconic". A shame cause i usually like tier 2 and 3 more wish NG+ would let us "switch" the appearances of party members' personas(kinda like how you can switch Goro between his Crow and Black Mask outfit) or outright let us play with all the party members and their personas already unlocked like Scramble's NG+

Honestly aside from the new girl and Joker because his is locked behind DLC, the 3rd form of the personas are actually a downgrade in the symbolism, as the first form was the basis of their personality/architype, the third form was a distilled version of the first, and their second form was the emobiment of their greater selves. Ryuji for example goes from Capt. Kidd that was once a respect member of sociaty to a social outcast because of how his deed were framed, and Grows into Sun Wukong(yes I know they used the japanese name) which fits the true growth and goals of Ryuji better then reverting back to Capt. Kidds untainted side.

This fits Akechi's whole character concept better, as it reflects, both the "Detective" side of Akechi wishing to "be just" and his "mad" side bringing harm for his own gains. Robin Hood and Hereward really only show the "detective" side in wanting to help the innocent, even if branded an outlaw by the enemies of the people.

Beyond that I'm pretty sure it was stated after the Akechi boss fight that the reason he only had two persona's despite being a Wild Card user is that since he bonded with no one he only got: Loki representing his rage and who he truly is and Robin Hood representing his lies and the "Detective Prince". Hereward represent's Akechi being how he truly is while following his own justice the truth beneath the lies of Robin Hood and Loki growing from it's hate. Hereward is still dark but it holds onto who Akechi is making it a clear differance from the fake Robin Hood while still showing Akechi's growth.
Her new ability is actually kinda crazy. It’s Salvation + Samarecarm + Thermopylae all in one skill. Mind you, it didn’t activate often in my Japanese playthroughs, but when it did....it was glorious.

All of the 3rd tier personas seem to have modern day looks, like how William (Ryuji's third tier) has headphones around its neck and riding on a cruise ship
It seems to be a modern "Japanese punk" look, with the greaser hair and all, I't seems the third tier persona's appearance is a modern rendition of the 1st tier looks
I like to think of it as the third tier persona adopting a certain degree of their respective users' sense of style. Either that, or the idea is that they're all the actors who played their respective roles or something like that.
More evidence as to Raoul being included in the base game is that these are all alternate forms of the users original personas. Like how Arsenes middle name was Raoul. Atlus can be so dumb sometimes
What’s odd is Raoul has concept art that can be purchased in the Thieves Den, which would suggest including him was at least considered during the game’s development. I’m not sure how getting Raoul would work though. The best I’ve been able to think of his him becoming available in a NG+ after you fuse Satanael.
I feel like the special ability for Hereward is kinda useless by the time you get it. It deals extra damage to downed enemies, which can probably be used against downed tentacles in Maruki's fight, but it's better to just baton pass a bunch that fight. I feel like the ability would be better and more unique if it was almighty damage that scaled with his already high Strength stat
I find it weird that Goemon being a "Robin Hood-like" character would actually put the money he stole on himself by being basically a "rapper" covered in gold and expensive clothes.
I just got Anne to her third tier persona and it’s nuts. First off she has the accessory which boosts magic damage for 3 turns at the start. She has both passive enhancement skills boosting fire skills by 75% She can deal severe fire damage to all foes. And as of getting this perk her concentrate which doubles magic damage for the entire flipping team has her in a state where she can deal close to 3k damage if she hits a target that’s weak to fire.
Considering the 3rd Persona’s are all the “true” form of their original Persona, it’s really interesting Akechi’s is based on Robin Hood, and not Loki. Makes ya wonder which Persona actually came first.

I find everyone's to be good, except Yusuke's. You can have a much more cheaper version of Hyakka Ryouran by just having a persona with Thermopylae, Spell Master, and Vitality of the Tree
@@zkdelta8014 true but with the use of the Jazz Club, the Kuzunoha Tubes accessory and Akechi’s third Trait “Ingenious spirit” coupled with Izanagi’s Trait “God Maker” you can replicate that to a lesser degree and he’d still be viable
So I know pretty much nothing about these games beyond the basics but I am quite invested in the symbols and mythical references. I've only seen this and the 3rd tier awakening video. After all of the Phantom Thieves reject the the "better" realities that (Maruki? sorry) made for them, their personas go back to their original form but take on the name of the real person the legends are based on. The Thieves remember who they are and choose reality. Also Ella is holding lilies for Karumi and it gave me the image of Sumire giving her flowers after her final performance
The transition to 3rd teir still feels wrong to me, as with the overall symbolism around the characters and their personas in the series it feels more like a step back then a step forward going from a reflection of their true growth and goals, to an "untainted" version of their original selves.

Both Seiten and Captain Kidd were on modes of transportation that was extremely fickle to the wind. Diego has a civilian look to him compared to Zorro and carries the colors of the Velvet Room which shows that Morgana has accepted that he was a Shadow made from the sea of souls and no longer views being human as having to have a human form but in having a multititude of emotions from happiness, to anger to sadness. Celestine is depicted as model type personality, fulling embracing her life as a model vs her wishy washy approach to being an actor be someone Shiho idolized. Her looks is very in your face model type with an aggressive personality to match. That she won't let any man think they control her. Gorokichi is a stylish Bancho who once again has his famous large cigar, this symbolizes Yusuke's appreciation for modern art culture and while he keeps his youthful influences from Madarame and his mother, he no longer is held back by what his father figure and mother saw as beauty which was old ukyo paintings. Banchos in Japanese culture are depicted as codebound hoodlums much like how Gorokichi is. Agnes's returning to an heavier motorcycle shows that Makoto's sense of justiceand maturity is not only changed but also on firm ground now that she has reconcilled with both Sae and Eiko. This is symbolized by Johanna going from a veiled faceplate on a motorcycle to a holy golden hood ornament of an angelic figure symbolizing Makoto discovering her indepdence from her family. Azif is depicted as a star destroyer spaceship, if you noticed the mathematic equations beneath, it symbolizes that through her trials with Joker to reintegrate with society, her core as "prometheus" merged with necronomicon which mean the spaceship now has a new "power source" in the form of successful reintegration with her accepting that this is what her mother wanted from her in inheriting the knowledge to be a normal person.
@@MrAsaqe Well good points for each character respectively, you got to remember these 3rd forms were still shoehorned in as extra details, that go against Cannon ending of the original story. For those of us familiar with the original P5 it is very easy to see it all as a step backwards instead of forwards like the awakenings symbolize. In the end going from P5 to P5R the growth shown in the characters basically is, Find the spirit to rebel against corruption, awaken to a greater purpose in the rebellion, then revert back to the lost innocence from before the need to rebel. This is the whole reason why the 3rd forms don't sit well with me, instead of their end goal of who they want to be as their true form, it is a call back to what they were while still blind to the world. Joker as the "Wild Card" of P5 is the only one from base it makes sense to have that third stage be in such a manor, as Arsene only shows up to highlight the start of his path as a fool, then Sentinial shows up when he has reached the end of the path forming the world, and Arsene's civilian form shows the cycle starting anew as the fool for another path. I won't judge the new girl as she wasn't in the original cannon so her growth and development are both unknown to me and solely from P5R so there was more freedom to work with her for the 3 stages.

It's pretty easy to get what they were going for: even if they awakened to their Ultimate Personas, which means they have grown as person, the Thieves still fell into Maruki's false reality without even batting an eye. Now, with Joker's help, they finally regained what set them on the path they walked till now: the will of rebellion, the thing that awakened their first Personas to begin with. The will of rebellion merges again with their heart, giving form to a a new Persona. It means they now remember why they've fought until now while also remembering their growth. It might not sit well with you, but I can't really see them as a downgrade.

Eh... Yusuke's can already be done by Joker in Persona 5. The DLC Orpheus F and Orpheus Picaro F get Neo Cadenza, which does that and adds a 50% team heal on top of that for 24 SP. If you don't want DLC though, Attis gets a passive to make the surround-only skills usable at any time, so Attis with Thermopylae can also Luster Candy with 30 SP.
Awesome video with a lot of work clearly devoted to it. Though what about Raoul? I mean it follows the trend of being an alternate name of the original, sharing many visible physical traits, and having a large scale of power. And if you want, what about Satanel?
I know in P4G you had to max out their confidant and then hang out with them in January. I believe it is the same for everyone in this game save Akechi. As long as you decide to go steal Maruki's heart, Akechi automatically gets his third tier. I'm not quite sure if Ella is also gotten differently than the others, but that may be the case for all I know.
i like how these look better than P4's 3rd tier's, those ones look basically the same as their pre-evolutions with some minor tweaks. these look better.
I have divided opinions about the third persona's design: 1 I don't like the fact that they are like upgrade versions of the firsts, because it feels that the evolutions that are the second one's is eliminated. If at least they where real fusions, or at least has more details from the second form, it would be different. For example i feel that Makoto with her second persona means that she don't need now anything to pull her forward. 2 I love the idea that so many of them are the original names(al Azif is the original name of the necronomicon ) the mames of the person that acted as(Celestine acted as Carmen), or alternative names(William is an alternative name for capitán kidd). I also love that theire designs are more modern, simbolizing that they will be focused in the present This is my opinion, and the only that i have no dubt i like is Ella.
Raoul's skill, by the way, is Phantom Show: high chance to put all foes to sleep. It's basically just an upgrade of Lullaby, but hey, it's 4 SP, so it's definitely spammable.
Haru's Life wall makes it so easy to beat The Reaper. If you use this the reaper will only use concentrate and megidolaon. I used to always run to another floor when The Reaper showed up, but right now i've beaten the reaper more than 5 times already.

The easiest answer is that it is supposed to be a more modern version of Goemon, just like how all Tier 3 Personas are modern versions of the original ones. And I am certain Goemon was finnicky to work woth due to his design

Gorokichi is kind of weird for Yusuke. The way it's dressed all pimped out reminds me of Madarame a bit too much. Goemon and its second form both feel like samurai which Yusuke basically comes across as a "Samurai of Art."
What's that vault guardian skill and where I can obtain it? And that rebellion blade is the exactly laevatein for loki with that animation and exactly attributes of Almighty attack as original ones

This game needs a mode similar to the Godmaster mode from Hollow Knight. Something separate from the main game so you can use all the high-level skills you've obtained.

Why is gorokichi the only one with no weaknesses? I love Yusuke, so I’m not complaining, especially when Hyukka Ryouran seems pretty good.
That was due to the accessory he was using. It removes weaknesses. He normally retains his weakness to fire.

So I know pretty much nothing about these games beyond the basics but I am quite invested in the symbols and mythical references. I've only seen this and the 3rd tier awakening video. After all of the Phantom Thieves reject the the "better" realities that (Maruki? sorry) made for them, their personas go back to their original form but take on the name of the real person the legends are based on. The Thieves remember who they are and choose reality.
Also Ella is holding lilies for Karumi and it gave me the image of Sumire giving her flowers after her final performance
The transition to 3rd teir still feels wrong to me, as with the overall symbolism around the characters and their personas in the series it feels more like a step back then a step forward going from a reflection of their true growth and goals, to an "untainted" version of their original selves.
@@truekurayami William uses a cruise ship and has runners which symbolises Ryuji no longer affected by the winds of change and sailing on his own terms. Both Seiten and Captain Kidd were on modes of transportation that was extremely fickle to the wind.
Diego has a civilian look to him compared to Zorro and carries the colors of the Velvet Room which shows that Morgana has accepted that he was a Shadow made from the sea of souls and no longer views being human as having to have a human form but in having a multititude of emotions from happiness, to anger to sadness.
Celestine is depicted as model type personality, fulling embracing her life as a model vs her wishy washy approach to being an actor be someone Shiho idolized. Her looks is very in your face model type with an aggressive personality to match. That she won't let any man think they control her.
Gorokichi is a stylish Bancho who once again has his famous large cigar, this symbolizes Yusuke's appreciation for modern art culture and while he keeps his youthful influences from Madarame and his mother, he no longer is held back by what his father figure and mother saw as beauty which was old ukyo paintings. Banchos in Japanese culture are depicted as codebound hoodlums much like how Gorokichi is.
Agnes's returning to an heavier motorcycle shows that Makoto's sense of justiceand maturity is not only changed but also on firm ground now that she has reconcilled with both Sae and Eiko. This is symbolized by Johanna going from a veiled faceplate on a motorcycle to a holy golden hood ornament of an angelic figure symbolizing Makoto discovering her indepdence from her family.
Azif is depicted as a star destroyer spaceship, if you noticed the mathematic equations beneath, it symbolizes that through her trials with Joker to reintegrate with society, her core as "prometheus" merged with necronomicon which mean the spaceship now has a new "power source" in the form of successful reintegration with her accepting that this is what her mother wanted from her in inheriting the knowledge to be a normal person.
@@MrAsaqe Well good points for each character respectively, you got to remember these 3rd forms were still shoehorned in as extra details, that go against Cannon ending of the original story. For those of us familiar with the original P5 it is very easy to see it all as a step backwards instead of forwards like the awakenings symbolize. In the end going from P5 to P5R the growth shown in the characters basically is, Find the spirit to rebel against corruption, awaken to a greater purpose in the rebellion, then revert back to the lost innocence from before the need to rebel. This is the whole reason why the 3rd forms don't sit well with me, instead of their end goal of who they want to be as their true form, it is a call back to what they were while still blind to the world. Joker as the "Wild Card" of P5 is the only one from base it makes sense to have that third stage be in such a manor, as Arsene only shows up to highlight the start of his path as a fool, then Sentinial shows up when he has reached the end of the path forming the world, and Arsene's civilian form shows the cycle starting anew as the fool for another path. I won't judge the new girl as she wasn't in the original cannon so her growth and development are both unknown to me and solely from P5R so there was more freedom to work with her for the 3 stages.
@@truekurayami I think you're overthinking this so much. It's pretty easy to get what they were going for: even if they awakened to their Ultimate Personas, which means they have grown as person, the Thieves still fell into Maruki's false reality without even batting an eye.
Now, with Joker's help, they finally regained what set them on the path they walked till now: the will of rebellion, the thing that awakened their first Personas to begin with.
The will of rebellion merges again with their heart, giving form to a a new Persona. It means they now remember why they've fought until now while also remembering their growth.
It might not sit well with you, but I can't really see them as a downgrade.

At last, Luster Candy is a thing in a Persona game. All hail Yusuke.
Eh... Yusuke's can already be done by Joker in Persona 5. The DLC Orpheus F and Orpheus Picaro F get Neo Cadenza, which does that and adds a 50% team heal on top of that for 24 SP. If you don't want DLC though, Attis gets a passive to make the surround-only skills usable at any time, so Attis with Thermopylae can also Luster Candy with 30 SP.

How do you get their 3rd awakening? Does it happen automatically at a certain date once you max out a confidant and get their 2nd awakening?
I know in P4G you had to max out their confidant and then hang out with them in January. I believe it is the same for everyone in this game save Akechi. As long as you decide to go steal Maruki's heart, Akechi automatically gets his third tier. I'm not quite sure if Ella is also gotten differently than the others, but that may be the case for all I know.

i like how these look better than P4's 3rd tier's, those ones look basically the same as their pre-evolutions with some minor tweaks. these look better.
I have divided opinions about the third persona's design:
1 I don't like the fact that they are like upgrade versions of the firsts, because it feels that the evolutions that are the second one's is eliminated. If at least they where real fusions, or at least has more details from the second form, it would be different. For example i feel that Makoto with her second persona means that she don't need now anything to pull her forward.
2 I love the idea that so many of them are the original names(al Azif is the original name of the necronomicon ) the mames of the person that acted as(Celestine acted as Carmen), or alternative names(William is an alternative name for capitán kidd). I also love that theire designs are more modern, simbolizing that they will be focused in the present

Haru's Life wall makes it so easy to beat The Reaper. If you use this the reaper will only use concentrate and megidolaon. I used to always run to another floor when The Reaper showed up, but right now i've beaten the reaper more than 5 times already.

I really like all of these... except for Gorokichi. I just don't feel like it fits Yusuke all that much compared to the others. if someone can give a good explanation to that one, I'd be glad to hear it.
The easiest answer is that it is supposed to be a more modern version of Goemon, just like how all Tier 3 Personas are modern versions of the original ones. And I am certain Goemon was finnicky to work woth due to his design

Gorokichi is kind of weird for Yusuke. The way it's dressed all pimped out reminds me of Madarame a bit too much. Goemon and its second form both feel like samurai which Yusuke basically comes across as a "Samurai of Art."

You can still farm but its just a longer process as status aliment don't last as long
You don't need to farm from bosses. If you go mementos and encounter a floor full of red enemies with green light and you can hit cap money very fast
