Dang sounds so familiar with my mom in 92. She didnt let me go to the Guns/Metallica Tour at the Coliseum because she told me it was to bad of an area so I missed a one in a lifetime show. Thanks for the work and the stories!
I grew up in the 80's in England always wanted to visit Hollywood/LA, finally did in the late 00's. Those days may be gone now but the ghosts remain. Hollywood can still be a wonderful place to visit, if you use your imagination.
So over these greedy contractors destroying historical places and such. We do however always appreciate you going out there and either reminiscing with us or showing current places.👏🏼😊
is it really sad? people stopped going to these show. and we have a serious lack of affordable housing in California. A lot of these building are way past their prime.
That was great ! Places change so quickly. Here in Prague, prices have risen for property so much, that many older, arty, bohemian areas of the city are being gentrified, and all the cool arty student types are bemoaning that there is nowhere for them. But the live music scene is still soldiering on. Because Czech language is only spoken here, local bands have to tour a lot to make money, and every regional town has free summer festivals in their main squares. So I've gotten to see lots of the bands as I travel through the country in the summer. Come to Prague, I think you'd really like the scene here !
Loved the Cinerama Dome!! It was a tradition to go to McDonalds next door and sneak in happy meals and Big Macs in my sisters huge purse.....Got to see Hunny I blew up the kid, Aladdin, and for some reason, What about Bob!.... Last movie i saw there was Lord of the rings 2.... Great theatre!
The Natural Fudge Cafe was an all ages punk spot that my old band played in early 1995. It was on Fountain and Harvard. I think it's a market now. After the show, my friend stole a case of beer and we had to leave in a hurry. We were 17-18 years old. Good times! Haha
Another awesome video !! Great to see all this old places and especially all the great and fine memories behind it. The way of your presentation and the great passion behind it makes it even more special and really fun to watch ! 😎😊😊🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I've lived in Lomita my whole life and never knew that The PCH spot used to be a music venue! I think that place was happening just a minute before I got into the scene. The creative event planning place that's there now used to be a record store & DJ shop called "WP Records" owned by my friend DJ Ricardo Velasquez, who now runs the creative event planning business. Peanut records was a great music store that used to be right across the street. Thanks for the video Kurt!
Love your channel, i was at the Queen show i bought a Billy Squier shirt it was my first concert when i was a kid a neighbor was selling the tickets cheap!!
Another excellent video, I've been to all these venues except for 2. I never seen a movie at the Cinerama either and the last I heard it was going to be a knockdown. Maybe the Historical Society will step in and save it.
I remember walking by The Garage as a kid and just always hearing music coming out of there. I said to myself that I was going to go there one day, but that day never came.
Did I hear you correctly? The Cinerama I closed for good? Heartbreaking. If my memory serves me well, there was a Music Plus around the corner where I saw Suicidal Tendencies in the parking lot on a Saturday afternoon. I love you casually name dropping playing with Final Conflict lol. God, I first saw Final Conflict in my teens at Long Beach Fenders Ballroom around 1986 maybe. Great punk band. Cool man.
Yes! Fenders Ballroom was great. I saw so many bands there...7 Seconds, PIL, Sublime, Suburban Rhythm, The Ziggens, and a very young Gwen Stefani. It caught fire once and was saved, but unfortunately another fire destroyed it. Now I believe it's apartment buildings...
Dude, I was probably right next to you in the pit. I didn’t see young Gwen because nobody wanted to go see the ska punk bands. My friends were into DRI, Excel, Slayer, the rest you know. Sad to hear it doesn’t exist at all now. It’s funny, when we were going to shows there multiple gigs a week it was crazy. Like it would never end, but yeah, shit happens. Oh real quick. I saw guy get stabbed right next to me at Fenders. It was early and the opening band was still setting up and shit. I was sitting on the stage and some suicidals, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, some suicidals came and stomped his ass down. Stabbed him with a punch to the stomach holding a piece. I jumped up on the stage for safety and those dudes ran off. The guy was trying to get up and we were helping him. I looked at his stomach area and you could see the blood all over and he needed help. They came and got him and who knows if he made it. It was just Fenders.
I have this memory when I was very little going to a place that looked like the Cinerama. We watched the original Friday the 13th. But I doubt my mom took me to Hollywood for that movie. We would’ve gone someplace in Orange County, like Garden Grove or Santa Ana. 🤔
Let me add to the history of The P.C.H. In the mid to late 90’s a guy (let’s call him RW) bought that building. The then used it as a record shop, dj rental place. The place was Called WP records. They would host dj events and signings in occasion. The backyard, was such a dope spot, and on occasion WP would have a whole day of Dj’s throwing down. I personally bought my first DJ set up there. In mid 2000’s RW couldn’t keep this record store going, so re began to rent it out. From my understanding RW still owns this building to this day, and the event planning company is his company, I could be wrong. I had no idea WP Records was The P.C.H, very kool building, and has a special place in my heart.
I remember being at a punk show in Seattle and maybe 20 people had sublime merch shirts on, found out they played the previous weekend and we missed it obviously but me and my friends all said oh god next time we can not miss them, i think they went down to SF where he overdosed, my timeline is probably off but damn
I remember in the 90s at about 1 or 2 am it always would get freezing cold or at least it did in the Valley ,at least as a teenager I thought it was cold it was probably 50 degrees .
I wanted to also add that I feel your pain with seeing Nirvana. When I lived in my hometown of Chicago I remember driving down Lake shore Drive with my friend leaving someplace and they talked about how quick Nirvana sold out on the radio. Although upset, we both looked at each other and said, well there’s always next time. Unfortunately, there was not a next time and yes that’s when Kurt Cobain ( Respectfully saying) committed suicide. That is so sweet that your wife saw The little mermaid and it would be kind of cool to get her outlook sometime on places or her memories as well. Maybe she can share more of her good times throughout the years. I also agree with you about the house of blues Last show I saw at the house of blues in LA was The Cult. Holy 💩 on all of the apartment buildings. Ugh!
Since you used to be a DJ, do you remember "Prime Cuts" record store on Santa Monica Blvd? Also "Rene's All Ears" & "Aaron's Record Surplus" on Melrose? I used to travel from Oxnard, CA to Los Angeles/Hollywood to buy records there, three times a month. I used to find a lot of great records there for .99 cents [Mostly Promos] Love your channel
Another fantastic video Kurt! This one brought back so many memories, thank you for putting these together. Now for the obligatory “ricks memories“ lol… First, I was never into the concert/club scene like you but I did attend a few over the years. I didn’t go to that 1982 concert you referenced but I did get to see Queen at the “fabulous forum“ during their tour in 1980. It was an incredible show and I remember it vividly! Onto the Cinerama Dome: my dad was a huge fan of this theater and often took my mom there on “date nights“ even though they had to drive all the way from the valley. I guess one night they couldn’t find somebody to babysit me so I got to go along with them and had my very first movie going memory of my life when I was VERY young. Even though I was maybe only 5-6 years old circa 1969 I remember them taking me to see “Krakatoa East of Java“ at the dome. To this day I still remember it vividly. Now let’s fast forward to 2019 and I am watching Tarantino’s “once upon a Time in Hollywood”. There is a scene in that movie where there is a series of cuts that show famous venues around the city turning on their lights at dusk. One of the cuts that only lasted a couple of seconds showed the lights of the Cinerama Dome turning on. The movie is set in 1969 so what movie is showing? Well, “Krakatoa East of Java” of course! Such incredible attention to detail by Tarantino, I loved it and all of the memories it brought back.
The Warner Center. Promenade Mall property has been sold to the LA Rams. Maybe you can do a video before the mall is torn down. Right now, only the restaurants are open in the mall. The Rams are building their practice complex there. They are moving from Thousand Oaks.
I can’t believe you talked about cinerama, but left out the palladium across the street. There’s a cool little bar called “the well” which is nice in the 2000s.
Great stuff!! Keep up the great work!! by the way, do you know what was at the south east corner of Mason and Sherman Way? currently their is a big hole and it's been that way for years.
Talk about memories, ive seen movies at the Cinerama, the left side of the Famous Amous store was a 2 story Ralph's market, Carneys had Tower Records next door, I remember Florintin Gardens Hollywood, Mr J's El Monte and Prince's Night Club The Grind we're the top clubs in the early 90's, I went to Hollywood High in the early 90's and Hollywood looked like sh*t
Man ... thx! I am from RJ - Brasil ... It seems like a parallel world to Rio de Janeiro, the places, the landscape, the sun, are identical here man... it seems like the same place. But there's nothing Rock and Roll here, just the shitty samba and football that I hate. Here the landscape looks like it did in the 80s hahaha... years late. Cool chanel.
hope they save that cool theatre. lets also hope the flavour of LA is not corporatized any further - indeed, it could do with being regressed somewhat...
Who lives in all these high end apartments?? Here in Florida we have a similar phenomenon and yet everyone I know is struggling more than ever due to inflation. We have a lot of residential properties being bought up as investments by outsiders. Is that the case in Cali too??
Dang sounds so familiar with my mom in 92. She didnt let me go to the Guns/Metallica Tour at the Coliseum because she told me it was to bad of an area so I missed a one in a lifetime show. Thanks for the work and the stories!
I remember my homies and I saw Galaxyquest at Cenerama. I remember puffing weed in the back in the middle of the movie. Fun times fun times 😁💯
I grew up in the 80's in England always wanted to visit Hollywood/LA, finally did in the late 00's. Those days may be gone now but the ghosts remain. Hollywood can still be a wonderful place to visit, if you use your imagination.
I remember the Cinerama! I saw Raiders of the lost Ark movie there with my uncle and siblings!!
A loooong time ago!
So over these greedy contractors destroying historical places and such. We do however always appreciate you going out there and either reminiscing with us or showing current places.👏🏼😊
💯💯💯💯💯
Sad that history is being replaced by apartment buildings. Great job on your content bro, I really enjoy the channel.
It is sad.
Also I cannot understand who the heck can afford the rent or lease at these places. It's way too high!
is it really sad? people stopped going to these show. and we have a serious lack of affordable housing in California. A lot of these building are way past their prime.
@6Diego1Diego9 and is the rent going down now?
Screamin' Jay Hawkins used to play a lot at the Club Lingerie back in the 80s, he was really crazy and talented!
🤘🏻🎱🤘🏻
Love the music venue triolgy.
Great memories of growing up in SoCal Kurt....thanks as always for what you do.
My pleasure. Thank you so much
Club Lingerie was historic. Saw many bands there. It goes back to late 50'/60's. Elvis used to hang out there.
Make as many of these as you can thrs so much history to show ...... I Love LA (2pac/Randy Newman voice)
Kurt strikes again!!!

In 1972 I camped out at the Forum for seven nights to get front row center tickets for Jethro Tull. Fun times...
My mom saw Jethro Tull there too in 1972 and Santana.
I love these stories!👍🤘😄
i always appreciate your videos. Thank you, it feels good to hear history from a local native.
Hey Kurt, I really enjoy how you bring these locations to life with your personal stories.
You got to see some great movies there
LA has so much rich culture and history. This video series is really cool and well put together
The Natural Fudge Cafe was an all ages punk spot that my old band played in early 1995. It was on Fountain and Harvard. I think it's a market now. After the show, my friend stole a case of beer and we had to leave in a hurry. We were 17-18 years old. Good times! Haha

My best memories of the LA Forum is seeing the mighty Led Zeppelin in 77!
So cool you saw Prince so many times in 2011!! 😆💜 Ugh…The Nirvana story!!! 😫
Right?? It still hurts. Ha
I had that Lakers shirt and I wore it to my first concert in 1988... Run-DMC. Fun times!
Man, you can’t pump these out fast enough! Great work as usual.
Aww. Thank you!!
I've lived in Lomita my whole life and never knew that The PCH spot used to be a music venue! I think that place was happening just a minute before I got into the scene. your research and production is amazing! Wonderful job, as usual!
Thank you!!
9:39 - Osko's Disco! That's where the disco movie Thank God It's Friday was filmed in the late 70s.
Great video I love learning about other cities and music venues. It's a shame los Angeles likes apartments as much as they do
Watching you made me realize how boring my life was. Love you videos.
One more song ! I mean, one more episode!!!!!
Another great video Kurt. Love the channel. Love the content. Love rhe nostalgia and that weather in LA. So jealous being from the UK !!
That was awesome! Thanks for the memories!
Man, I really appreciate you sharing that story about your Dad and the Nirvana show Kurt...you a real one 🤩👻
Thank you!! I sure hope so. We have enough apartments
great video. Sounds like that flasher scared you for Life Lol.
I remember walking by The Garage as a kid and just always hearing music coming out of there. I said to myself that I was going to go there one day, but that day never came.

I think you ought to do a “weird science” filming location video sometime soon.
I remember being at a punk show in Seattle and maybe 20 people had sublime merch shirts on, found out they played the previous weekend and we missed it obviously but me and my friends all said oh god next time we can not miss them, i think they went down to SF where he overdosed, my timeline is probably off but damn
I was lucky enough to see the 2004 Dawn of the Dead sneak preview screening at the Cinerama
I hope they leave it alone
I saw Terminator 2 Judgement Day with my dad at the Cinerama Dome. Can’t believe they’re just going to let it go away.
I remember in the 90s at about 1 or 2 am it always would get freezing cold or at least it did in the Valley ,at least as a teenager I thought it was cold it was probably 50 degrees .
Again, another fascinating video! How about doing a video about Magic Mountain? Literally hundreds of movies and Tv shows have been made there.
I wanted to also add that I feel your pain with seeing Nirvana. When I lived in my hometown of Chicago I remember driving down Lake shore Drive with my friend leaving someplace and they talked about how quick Nirvana sold out on the radio. Ha I used to work at that Arclight. Btw you are hands down the biggest Prince fan I know of
Awesome video

Your parents sound like amazing and engaging people. Love your stories
11:48 nice touch getting the phone booth in the shot for a more nostalgic vibe .
Was in LA. a number of years ago and went to the Frolic Room to see some local acts. Don't know if it is still existing.

Take a shot every time you see a Prius 😃
Great stuff!! Keep up the great work!! by the way, do you know what was at the south east corner of Mason and Sherman Way? currently their is a big hole and it's been that way for years.
Saw Nirvana at the forum in 94 last LA show ever
Brilliant episode thank you. Hey what sort of 80s music (nights) did you DJ? (as mentioned in this vid ?)

The singer of Faster Pussycat is Riki Rachtman. He just dyes his hair
Jabberjaw, Al's bar, Hong Kong Cafe, Raji's, The Masque...
The former location of Raji's was shown in the video, I am surprised it wasn't mentioned.
Man ... thx! I am from RJ - Brasil ... It seems like a parallel world to Rio de Janeiro, the places, the landscape, the sun, are identical here man... it seems like the same place. hope they save that cool theatre. lets also hope the flavour of LA is not corporatized any further - indeed, it could do with being regressed somewhat...
I saw ET there.
Don't forget The Odyssey on Beverly Blvd. Early 80s. Rebellious Dance teen club.
I think you were too young!
Did you ever play at Bogart's in Long Beach or even go deeper into the madness and play at the Glass House in Pamona?
Never played Bogarts, but I did play the Glasshouse
Did you ever run into Bar Rescue host John Taffer when he worked at the Troubadour?
Who lives in all these high end apartments?? Here in Florida we have a similar phenomenon and yet everyone I know is struggling more than ever due to inflation. We have a lot of residential properties being bought up as investments by outsiders. Is that the case in Cali too??
Not at all.
Can you do anything from the Small Wonder sitcom? Anyone remembers
Sorry second post but can you do a red hot chili peppers location video if you haven't already? Cheers and thanks in advance!!!
Was Osko's disco the setting of Thank God it's Friday?
