2020 Honda CBR600RR ABS Review | MC Commute

- Years ago Honda’s CBR600RR used to fly off dealership floors. Big Red’s supersport has always had the optimum combination of agile, yet sure-footed handling and high-revving inline-four fun. Although the popularity of the middleweight 600cc sportbike segment has waned, the 2020 CBR600RR still makes a valid case for everyday sport riding enjoyment.
--
Last refreshed for the 2013 model year (read the “2013 Honda CBR600RR First Look” article), the CBR600 is one of the more versatile and well-rounded 600s in the class. Its ergonomics package isn’t overly aggressive and it’s a relatively comfy mount for a 6-foot-tall rider. Yes, the windscreen could be taller, but this could be said for nearly every bike made, aside from modern touring-specific mounts. We appreciate the wide, well-supported rider and passenger saddles.
Old school in terms of electronics and electronic adjustability, the Honda continues to impress with its well-calibrated throttle response that is neither too sluggish nor too sensitive. This makes for a bike that is easy to command. Peppy for a 600, especially off the bottom and through the midrange, the CBR is well suited for road use. Its six-speed gearbox and final drive gearing is a tad low, but that makes for a zippy acceleration experience. Considering its current MSRP, it should include an electronic quickshifter.
Revving the engine out toward its 15,000-some rpm redline reveals a sweet menacing sound, yet it isn’t so loud to draw attention. On the other hand, horsepower enthusiasts will be less than impressed as the 599cc engine is only good for around 100 hp in stock trim at the rear Dunlop. Still, if you want to feel like you’re going fast, without having to go fast (like Ducati’s almost 200-hp Streetfighter V4 S, for example), the CBR600RR certainly gets it done. A hint of vibration is present through the controls, which does cause some tingling inside the rider’s feet and hands during extended rides.
With its generously sized and nearly 5-gallon fuel tank filled to the brim, the CBR weighs 434 pounds in ABS trim. Although 24 pounds more than the non-ABS-equipped model, Honda’s Combined ABS is one of the most effective systems-especially for those who aren’t experienced in actuating the brakes in a panic-like situation.
When the front brake is actuated, the system automatically engages the rear brake slightly to help reduce stopping distance in a panic situation. Conversely, when the rear brake is depressed beyond the limit of available traction, brake pressure is routed to the front brakes to more effectively reduce speed without the thread of skids or bike instability.
In action the braking systems perform marvelously. Both power and feel are rich and the front brakes remain fade-free when used aggressively at an elevated pace around tight, twisty, downhill roads. Impressive indeed. Well-calibrated Showa suspension components further complement handling and allow favorable road holding through turns. Yet the suspension still delivers a forgiving and pleasing ride quality over pumps. The suspension has a wide range of adjustment so you can tailor suspension action to your liking. Honda could have selected a better OE tire however, as the Dunlop Sportmax D214 is one of our least favorites in Big D’s motorcycle tire line-up. We’d ditch them for a set of Sportmax Q3+ hoops if the CBR was ours.
Although the 600cc sportbike age is past its prime, a quick ride on the CBR6000RR proves that this class isn’t forgotten. Big Red’s offering demonstrates merit for everyday sport riders seeking an effective sport riding tool, that is just as at home on the track as it is on the street.

Honda: “let continue to make our 600rr for trackday users, so if they crash, they don’t have to spend a ton to fix it”
Why all the hate!!??!!?? I think the plainish stealth look is nice.....enough power to be fun but won't kill you in half a second. The cost can't be argued with because it is proven and reliable. Honda has a good recipe so why mess it up!!!??? I would buy one of these way before a Kawasaki or Yamaha just because of the quality that goes into Honda product!!
I commuted on one of these for years regardless of the weather and it was an amazing commute bike. I love Hondas.
I’ve heard nothing but great things
People in some countries 🤦.....600cc producing 60 plus horses...... commute bike!
Thanks man, I was going to ask if anyone actually uses this for daily commute. Be well.
@@1andtheOnly People in some countries 🤦🏻♂️. ….hating on people commuting on 600cc bikes.
@@Username-2 200cc would be about 17hp lol.
I’m old school. Don’t like all the high-tech nannies or rider aids in moderns cars and especially bikes. So a modern sportbike that gives me an unadulterated mechanical experience gets my money. I currently ride a 2009 Honda CBR600RR and there isn’t another bike it’s league that I’d rather replace it with, except maybe a Ducati 848. The fact that Honda hasn’t changed anything besides the visage and a few tweaks, Is fantastic for someone like me. Can’t change perfection and you only dilute it with all the electronic aids.
The very same bike since 2013? I'm okay with that. But I think the dash looks more like 1993. I mean, I don't like the more modern TFT videogame-like displays, and I do LOVE analog rev counters and speedometers, but that dash looks really, really old. Come on, Honda, you can do better. And another excellent video, Adam!
Trust me bro I have a 99 it doesn't look that old 😂👌
Kawi kept the analog tach but UPDATED it and i love it. this honda is PATHETIC
It's been really the same since 2008. In 2013, they changed the fairings, the engine tune, the gauge font, and the suspension adjustability. 2013 was only a mild refresh
I think it’s really made for track day users, if you crash, it’s not going to be too expensive to fix... since it’s really a basic bike
@@Samuel-qe9lj also really good on the road
The gauge cluster hasn’t changed at all since my 2008 I see. Price sure has changed though. Come on Honda!
2006 in fact, i saw one of those old models with that dash
I still miss my 2008. I think it looks better than its younger siblings. Too bad Honda isn't doing much to pry this money off my hands.
@@ME262MKI 2007 is when they redesigned it. The 06 still used the 03+ dash.
@@invincibearofficialeeehm the 2007 still has the air intakes below the headlights?
atleast it has a fuel gauge hahaha
I love this bike. This is the image that comes to mind when someone says "Motorcycle".
🏍️ 🏍️
Same. I ride a naked gsx atm for the comfort but a part of me really longs for the super sport simply because this is what feels like a true sport bike to me. I love for clip on styles and fairings even if it's not the most comfortable nor powerful for most uses (streets less than 65mph)
Pre covid: everyone had a haircut, except Waheed.
Post covid: exactly the opposite.
Lol. Good one, bro.
😂😂hahaha
@@AdamWaheed 😃👊
"Post Covid"
Covid cases in the US are at an all time high. In what way is this "post" covid?
I wish people would stfu about covid
"Listen to that Japanese 4-in-line sound" YES, i have the 2009 CBF600NA (purchased second hand in 2012) and that sound is one of the things i fell in love with. It reminded me of the CB500Four i had in 1971.... no other bikes can match the sound of a Japanese 4-in-line :-)
I love that there's still bikes that were so good 7 years ago that they didn't need a modern robotic redesign
Gotta be hard not to wring it out on a bike like this with the skills that Adam has. Once again, well done
I have a 2007 600RR. Own it for 8 years, still love it. So light (2007-2008 600RR is the lightest Supersport till now) and easy to ride.....
Great job Adam👍🏽 I’m a new rider in CA, and watching your rides to the office helps me learn how to split lanes properly. There is a right way & wrong way to filter & watching you is quite helpful💯🏍
Bryan Smith That’s solid advice. Thanks
Great review Adam. I went with the 2021 model (same as this, but with better color scheme), because I’m a believer in “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.” Honda is a prime example of a company that builds everything, from power generators to private jets. For them to keep the CBR600RR around with mild refreshes speaks about retaining the reliability / quality they are known for. The CBR600RR has always had lower power, but also lighter with a better weight distribution in comparison to other 600 super sports. Finally, Honda gives you everything that you need, and nothing you don’t need. CBR600RRs were always the only 600s with Combined ABS, Electronic steering dampener, real fuel gauge and plastic tank covers. They’re literally perfect for everything you’d want to do, cheap / easy to repair and I still don’t think anyone in its class provides a better overall package for an experienced rider. Simplicity at its finest and it’s still one hell of a supersport to ride daily and rip on the track. People call them boring because they just do everything so good without complaining.
Sounds like cope
You are absolutely spot on and I could not agree with you more. Honda's CBR 600RR is the sweet spot for sports bikes.
She still looks good in my opinion. Adam great, informative review as always.
Even without ABS, the HESD kicks in under unstable, hard, or clutched-in braking; you'll feel it vibrate to prevent tank slapping. It's amazing...
Nobody:
Adam: "It's like riding an old friend."
Meanwhile does 100mph on an exit ramp 😂
Great video!
I was so nervous watching him lane split at like 70 miles an hour
@@cpttusktooth7859 Like Naked Options Trading, it works until it doesn't and you become the bumper.
So jelly of your lane filtering/splitting. I wish the rest of the country would get on board with this!
Is that even legal?
...way he did it
In Oregon driver's would cut you off if they saw you coming, afew w open their doors. No doubt
@@grandpa7278 yep completely legal in California since around 2015. Crashes actually went down since cars get used to looking for bikes. Notice how some even moved over a little to give him extra room?
I actually sat on all the modern supersport 600s when i was at a dealership recently shopping for a new bike, and i honestly found this bike to be the most comfortable of them all. I wanted a supersport but i also didn't want to be leaned too far over, wearing out my arms and wrists or having knee pain from the footpeg height. This cbr was the best of them all. However due to price i went with the gsxr anyway lol, which was a close 2nd.
i found a 2019 with 4k miles for 7500 you think i should pick it up?
Just wanted to say I love MC Commutes even though I'm not the target audience. Amazing to see this bike almost unchanged for so long. It's not available in all markets though (I just checked my local Honda website). It takes an old stager to pull the best wheel-air excursion I've seen on your commutes. Got to love Honda. Thanks for making my day. Again.
Always enjoy seeing Adam's review. The best in the game. Keep up the good work.
Bought my 2019 version beginning of this year and am absolutely in love with it
This bike is iconic...but miss the 2006's looks
Haha lol kinda took this comment personal because i just took up an cbr600rr 2005 last Sunday😜
@@GameplaysQzx666 I also have an 05 600rr. Bought it in November for 2400 dollars in practically mint condition with 19k miles. Its a sleek sex machine. Now summer is here I am seeing them for over 4k. Always buy out of season for good deals
I just sold my 06 CBR600rr a week ago with almost 50,000 miles all from me what a bike it was! I always felt the 2005 and 06 same design was absolutely the best looking no doubt I'm going to miss this bike big time!
Rode this for 3 years, best bike ive ever owned. Im on a 1000rr 2017 right now. Its the same bike but beefier and no fuel gauge.
That was a great review and good to know that it's still worth keeping my 2010CBR (plus all the upgrades)! Thanks Adam!
Nothing beats the 07-08 600. Before all the restrictions and bs it still has the fastest lap times among 600s. And that under tail exhaust is sexy af
This bike has one of the amazing sound that comes stock.
I wish motorcycle makers could retain 'analog' without being 'archaic'. There's no excusing that gauge cluster, mirrors and halogens on a bike of this cost.
I was thinking the same thing. Especially the headlights. The CBR1000rr LED headlights are pretty amazing💯🏍
esepecially given what Kawasaki did for the 2019-20... like are u kiddin me? the 636 rips and has the same suspension components etc and even better in the rear.... beautiful updated analong tach, and quickshifter, so much better looking
@@24james the lights dont make a motorbike
It’s the whole package not just the tac which you don’t need if you listen too the machine. Everything about the cbr is Analog. It needs a rider. No nannies no wheelie control this, traction control that. The only rider assist this bike has is the grey jelly inside your skull. This bike Is the last of its kind, it’s pure and simple, which is why its loved by many. There’s a reason why this bike is still a deadly weapon on a track, hop on one and I promise you, you will understand.
I hope people aren't missing the point you were making (I think). It isn't about what the bike is missing but what they are charging despite those absences. Kawi is cheaper. Yamaha comes with ABS and many tech options that the Honda is missing for a lower price. It's fine if they want to offer this with less tech but why isn't it cheaper to reflect that?
So bummed the US isn't getting the 2021 with winglets.
I know I'm in the minority but I love 💘 ❤ the looks of this gen of cbr600rrs. It looks very moto gp with its rounded and understated face, but it's not overly cute or soft. It's got a semi retro/funky feeling, like an indiglo timex digital watch . I dig it 😎
I have the 2008 model, the last model before the emissions regulations.
Quite comfortable for a sportbike
I own 2007, and love it. Also 07-08 were the strongest and lightest CBR's
Greatest CBR 600RR review for the greatest japanese 600 bike ever made.
Best sport bike EVER.. Please be cautious while lane splitting.
We've sold more of these this year than we have in a long time.
Must have a deep discount the 636 is a better bike for alot less.
Interesting. What part of the country are you located in if I may ask?
@@mayhemmeme2907 Just Curious in what ways is the 636 better?
Joker2552 more usable power at almost 3k less. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still take the cbr. But those are good points
What brand is the 636?
Was discontinued from Australia’s market about 4 years ago, did not know it was still available elsewhere. Had a 2001 CBR600 f4i, have a soft spot for these bikes
Lol the CBR600RR does not have any “punch” down low. The most grunt I’ve experienced from a 600 Series sport bike is my current Kawasaki ZX6R 636 and honestly my MT-07 walks away from my 636 stop light to stop light all day. I say all that to say this: 600 class bikes don’t make torque. No matter where you are in the rev range these bikes are not torquey. You simply accelerate. But you don’t FEEL it.
Those honda engines are solid!
Leave something alone; avoid attempting to correct, fix, or improve what is already sufficient...
Honda...
personally i despise abs. i have never experienced an abs system that actually does what its supposed to. it is simply a hindrance for any skilled rider. i also believe that if you don't have the skills/experience to properly manipulate the motorcycle completely then you shouldn't be riding aggressively.
Used to own a 2007 model. Sold it for £3,700 in 2016, a quick search in the used market suggested that I would have got a lot more than that now...
Lucky whoever bought it. I wish I could have bought yours haha.
You guys ready for the ALL NEW 2021 HONDA CBR600RR🤯😎 CANT WAIT

Has there ever been a bike where he would recommend TC? "This motorcycle only makes 120 hp so nobody should want traction control"
This is your best video and road test ever. Thank you for combing your hair. 😊
this cant be the 2020 model, what is new and improved? never mind im closing the video and remain driving my 2008 model
@OgreWolf bingo. That's why the 2008 is typically a year people want.
@OgreWolf Exactly. >106 hp on the wheel, versus
@@mar7739 Love my 07 model
I have a 2008 model too lol
I'm the sure the other 600's are good in their own way but for some reason the CBR600 is *the* sportbike in my mind. It's just the quintessential 600 to me. Damn they gotta modernize that dash. It doesn't really need a fancy TFT display but the way it's arranged now just looks dated. The dash on my 2015 GSX-S750 isn't any more modern but it looks much better.
A 600cc bike for about 13k out the door and it doesn't have a quick shifter, or cruise control, or led headlights? Can't wait for the aprilia rs 660 to trounce this thing
the 636 is 10,000 and has power modes, traction control, power modes, etc.... and LEd's I have a 2019 its incredible
the aprilia will be more expensive i fear
You are getting Honda quality.
Damn Waheed is a beast he just casually does an off ramp at 102 and stops at a light right after while talking. Lol I'm jealous
this is an amzing video man! alot of emotions running through my mind upgrading to a 600cc, this was my dream bike when i first got into bikes!
I love this bike. Owned a 07 and had way more fun on track with it than my 1000. Road wise, I prefer my 1000. I miss this bike though. The front end was near perfect. Just wish the bike came with heavier springs f/r. You shouldn't have to pay for that brand new.
One of the most reliable engines/Bike from Honda. “Totally” made in Japan,
Not like these days where you get Honda’s from Thailand, or wherever else 🙄 ,??
There's loads of Honda bikes still made in Japan🤷♂️
Great review, Adam. Thanks for saying it the way you see it and for the ride, buddy.
It's a race replica that isn't competitive in WSS, too focused for the road, is over ten years old, and looks like an old blackboard
Looks wrecked -hate flat black
Wow, 434 lbs. That's lightweight... for a liter bike with 200 hp. Yes, combined abs is great, but so is the cost, 25 lbs + $1000.
There is no much change with hondas 600 since 2009 , weight and everything is pretty much same, i can do conversion on my 09 to look just like 2020 model . Plus mine would be lighter i don't have ABS.
Holy shit I didn't realize you are from Vista! Had to do a double take at the start of the video thinking "Wait...I know this area"! Heyo from a native Vista guy!
Your lane splitting is giving anxiety… skills
I hate to say it but I forgot Honda was still making these. Even in 2013 when it was updated it was at the bottom of the heap. It’s sad because back in 2007-2008 which was its last major redesign the CBR600RR was king of the class. The Kawasaki ZX-6R is now unbeatable in the 600 sport bike class now that the Triumph Daytona 675 is long gone. It’s the only one that has been recently updated in any significant way using modern technology besides the overpriced and overrated Yamaha R6. Oh and the price at $9999 is also the lowest by far. Plus that 636 engine paired with standard quick shifter is just perfection. I plan to buy one soon and that’s saying something because I had sworn off super sport bikes for the road years ago!
I am going to buy cbr 600rr 2020 next week 🙂Very Good Motorcycle 👍
Best looking cbr600 - simply by being just black and not the random paint/decal splash schemes of the last 30 years.
There used to be so many of these things around, along with r6 and gsx (including the supersport sized cheater gsx750) especially wailing around on Sunday mornings. Just about all gone nowadays.
What up dude, while is true that most def Honda needs to up their game on cluster, brakes, engine mount and windshield and the like still is a machine that most will only dream of owning. With that being said there's something that everybody fails to see: Which is inflation. Almost everything cost double on price. I wish I could have this machine. Almost 13k is what I paid for a brand new Civic lx at Honda of Hollywood in 2007!! Wich was almost 2k more for a brand new Corolla in Cerritos. Go Cali!!
I'm so glad lane splitting is illegal where I am. I'm actually surprised you do it so much, as much as you talk about safety. Disappointed but still love you're channel
I love the old dash look
I feel like all you’re getting on these newer CBRs is an updated look for a higher price. I own 2 and love them but struggle to justify buying a brand new CBR
I LOVE that it has an actual fuel gauge, just wiah Honda would update it. It boggles my mi d they have updated their 250, 300, 400 and even 500cc bikes but not the 600cc since like 2013. If they do update it, I hope they keep the fuel gauge add a TFT display and just modernize it. Hell even if they pulled a Yamaha and kept the same engine just update the esthetics and features/rider aids I'd buy one.
Same I’ve been stalking to internet for information. Kinda looking like we’ll have to wait for October for possible updates or release.
Counting down the days. I don’t want to buy the 2020 and then they come out with a new beautiful 600rr-r
as someone who knows not much about bikes, why are these "out of vogue"? It seems very desirable to me
Hi Adam great review as always 👏
For me i started my bike life bk in 2011 on a 2004 CBR 600RR and won’t lie i absolutely loved it 😍. But like you’ve said in this review time and bikes have moved on from then and although this is a 2020 bike its actually not really its platform is to old for me Honda just haven’t moved this bike on anywhere near enough. Yes i get it the middleweight sportsbike sector isn’t what it was but for me if Honda where going to launch a new 2020 600RR they really should have put a little more effort into it imo!! $12500 for this.......no way id personally save myself a few 💵 and get a used 636 or Daytona 675R there where it’s at when it comes to the supersports

What's up with that circa early 2000's dash. This bike looks dated and long in the tooth but I guess all 600's are on their way out.

Flashback to 2005. That was a great motorcykle back in the day.
I have a 2000 Kawi ZZR600, love everything about it, similar to the pros for the CBR600RR! Thank you for the review!
I noticed you are giving a lot of throttle when taking off Is it because you are unfamiliar with the friction zone of the clutch on this bike or the torque is lackluster from idle?
So glad I got a ZX6R
its 2020 and honda still has a gauge from 1990
Love 600cc Supersports but could definitely use a facelift like the R6 did

I'd buy the R6 or Kawasaki's 636 instead
That's cool, but why though
@@afroman5531 cause you can buy a 2020 zx6r for 8k, at least around me
Afro Man The 636 is a much better bike. It was better in 2013 when both Honda and Kawasaki released their updated 600 series bikes and it’s DEFINITELY better now. Kawasaki hasn’t changed much, but at least they don’t charge 12k for one. You can pick up a ZX6 for 9k and get new styling, LED headlights, updated dash, and of course, a MUCH better motor in every way. I personally think the CBR600RR looks slightly better than the new ZX6R, but that’s a small price to pay. Slap a dark windscreen on the ZX6R and a fender eliminator and it solves 95% of the aesthetic problem.
Am I bias because I own a ZX6R? Maybe lol. But in my defense, I looked at the 600 series bikes before choosing the ZX6 and I genuinely think it’s the best out of all the 600’s.
Cecil L nah.. R6 is faster, looks nicer, handles WAY better & comes with better brakes and suspension out of the crate
Ry n water The R6 does look way better. And it’s suspension is better. It’s breaks are better too. BUT, the R6 is not faster out of the box. Both bikes weigh roughly the same, yet the 636 makes 10+ more horsepower. That’s just physics. And it’s not like the 636 has budget parts. It just has slightly “cheaper” parts. For the riding that 99% of us do, the 636 works just fine. It’s also nearly $3,000 cheaper which more than accounts for the cheaper parts. It’s not like Mr. Honda over there whos charging $12,000 for a bike with so-so parts lol
How would this compare engine and handling wise to a 636? The Hondas I know seem to have a midrange so torquey it makes bigger cc bikes feel anemic. Cbr1000rr always did that even vs a hayabusa Roll on was extremely strong for size. No slipper is bad!
12 000$ for a 600 TT-machine that's got 7 year old tech...

Not 100% sure but the 08-09 is comes out the factory with more power due to emissions.
That cbr600rr is way faster than people think. No one gives it enough credit. Put a full system and tune on it, and you will beat most stock 1000cc naked bikes, or at least stay within a few bike lengths of them. -1 +2 gearing is a must on a 600 to get the acceleration making it really quick.
if you live CA , owning a bike is almost a must ,traffic is terrible
For a 2020 bike that dash cluster is absolutely dire.
Hey, for a 2010 bike that dash cluster is absolutely dire!
Personally like the dash.
Such a confident driver
I have a gsxr and my friend has the cbr 600. It is the best sounding 600cc bike in my opinion..
The rumor 2021 600rr will be totally new?
I sold my 2006 CBR600RR about 2 months ago. Missed her but money was a little tight.
I love this channel
I taught Honda gave up the cbr 600rr, some says that the only 600cc competing in the market are Yamaha r6 and Ninja zx6
I really hope they Update the looks soon.
This bike is still ICONIC but HONDA N SUZUKI needs to upgrade their 600s badly...I got an L8 gsxr750 n it needs an update..still LOVE IT SOOO heyy..
I think it’s time for 600rr to get an update. Saw the thumb nail and dead ass thought, “why’s Waheed riding a 10 year old bike?”
Back in the 90s with updates every 2-3 years I didn't think race replicas were going to be just a phase of popularity motorcycling went through, and I'm still struggling to get my head around the idea. Although Honda being conservative is nothing new, the CBR600 models long being the more road focused and conservative of the 600 class.
They could merge some of the tech in the Cbr650r on this model like the ABS, colour screen etc other than that nothing wrong with a good old school bike IMO
It is definitely worthy of two "ARSE".... So much of seating space....
A 12k dinasour from Honda with literally nothing going for it....Far out Honda
All that technology is not gonna make you go faster boy.
I saw too many tube videos but you guy awesome video recording while riding.
My dream is to buy 600rr
Gsxr 750 😎
It sounds amazing. Unfortunately I don't ride on track so I'd probably have a CBR650R or the Ninja 1000 SX which is not much more money than what Honda wants for the CBR600RR.
Could always get a used one. Get a low mileage 2013 and save a ton
@@hfr8343, that's a good point though I do a lot of miles and I suspect the CBR650R also gets better fuel efficiency and rides better over rough roads. I also bring cargo and a passenger on some rides so the CBR600RR may not work as well for those 400 mile rides.
Thanks for the great review
