    Ren is like a sponge, soaking up everything he sees and hears and when squeezed out pops a new song that is a mixture of it all.

    Ren was raised on the Isle of Anglesey in a very, very tiny village with just one shop. Then he "fled" to brighton to explore himself and his music.
    If you wanna know everything, watch the interview he did with Justin Hawkins.

    Jamaica is still part of the Commonwealth. A lot of people came from Jamaica to the UK after WW2 when a workforce was needed. 500 of them came on the Windrush in 1948, a British ship that sailed to Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago to ask for help. One of the many horrendous acts of the recent Conservative governments, including the current one, is that they changed the rules and demanded that those people and their descendants apply for residency. A lot of those who weren't aware of the rule change were deported, even if they had not been in the Carribean for decades or ever. The government was required to offer a compensation scheme in the end, but made it ultra hard to apply. Just today we got the news that they announced closing the scheme down 'because of lack of interest' while so many people are still struggling through the process.
    Throughout the British Empire, for example in the Pirate era, but especially today, Caribbean Culture had and has a great impact on Britain.
    A lot of British Spoken Word and Rap comes out of London music scenes, where the crossover of different ethnicities gave birth to Multi-Ethnic-London-English, AKA Urban British English, also known sometimes as Jafaican. While it is such a mixed form of English that it couldn't be pinpointed (hence multiethnic) the base is strongly Jamaican English. Caribbean language, poetry, music, fashion, and food are a firm part of British culture, as are Pakistani, Indian, Nepali influences and many African nations. Come to London and just take the Tube to different areas and walk around. You can travel the world in London.

    I hope you can have a bit of sleep... you must be knackered!
    When you wake up... Ren was raised on Anglesey in Wales. Definitely country.
    Also, check out the history of Island Records and Chris Blackwell. He's in the Hall of Fame, he's still alive today. In the 60s he did a lot of work bringing reggae and ska to a larger audience in the UK and the world. Marley was with Island I think. The UK wanted it, too. We had a large immigrant community after ww2 and he brought music from his home in Jamaica to them. The government had extended a welcome to commonwealth countries to come and help rebuild, and be trained to work in all parts of the NHS for example. Many took it up. From then, our cultures were intermingled, and that in turn led to an established culture of british reggae, ska and two tone. I think this is one way the music culture of the UK differs radically from the US.
    I hope that all made sense.

    I love it when Bond fans find Love Music 2... so much fun. When you add in all the references (things like license to kill), there are closer to 20. I think 'A dippy lippy pretty-looking hippie village idiot' might be one of my favorite quotes from a song. Also, the ninja sheep in toys-are-US always make me smile. Awesome song! All three are wonderful for the energy they create.

    Loved this reaction! The UK and reggae go back a ways. . Ren was raised in a tiny town in North Wales, & didn't leave for Bath and Brighton respectively til he was in his late teens. LM 2 is my fav of the trio but can't wait for Thurs. drop of #4 ! I swear Ren's soul is composed of music. He said in an interview a few years ago that he played drums in the Big Push when they needed drums "but i wasn't very good at it." so they went & found a real drummer, who by the way had been a base guitarist ! That would be Glen.

      @supertuscans9512 Před 10 měsíci +2

      I don’t know if it’s true, I read it in a comment somewhere, but he reportedly said he left the band because he felt his drumming wasn’t good enough to keep up with what they wanted and that he now lives in Thailand and is a programmer.
      It might just be more internet BS.

      @denalinde Před 10 měsíci

      @@supertuscans9512I do feel that there was friction (just watch REN’s body language whenever he’s asked about the band reforming) & that he didn’t play on a fair amount of stuff the band did. I don’t know if it’s because they didn’t need drumming on those tracks or if they were writing tracks without drumming because he wasn’t as committed as the rest. They did busking gigs without a drummer sometimes as well, which is interesting simply because we know they had one.
      I had heard that they found a drummer because Ren didn’t feel his own drumming was strong enough, so maybe the rumors got twisted together?
      Either way, the band was great & it’s sad they’re no more. 💜

    • @supertuscans9512
      @supertuscans9512 Před 10 měsíci +2

      I have definitely seen Ren say there was no friction and the band broke up on good terms and that one day they might get back together for some stuff. He said the band as a group felt at the time it had reached the destiny of where they wanted it to go.
      Ren and Romain particularly are apparently still very tight. Meanwhile Goran, Roman and Ren are all busy releasing their own stuff, as is Sam who’s also right with Ren but wasn’t in the BP.

    He said in an interview somewhere that he hasn’t met an instrument yet that he couldn’t figure out. My nephew is the same way (starting at age 4 when he snuck a ukulele off a wall at a party & learned it while the grownups were talking in the other room). 💜

    Ren was raised in a tiny village on an island off the coast of Wales. He's a country boy. Some think this is reggae but really it is Ska music. If someone asks you who told you, it wasn't me.

    I think the first reactor to actually get most of the James Bond film titles. :) some people actually miss them completely but I think you spotted more than anyone. I think you missed 2 or 3 at least though ;)
    I just love how this track brings a smile - sharing the joy of the love of music.
    Yes, he was raised in the country - a tiny tiny village in north wales that I think he said had one little shop and nothing else close. I think he lived there until he went to college for a while in Bristol (which itself is not a /big/ city) and then Brighton which again, is not a big city. So he’s very much a ‘country boy’ I think.

    Ren grew up in Anglesea which is a small Welsh Island and didn't moved to Brighton until his late teens.
    One of his favourite bands are The Police, a white reggae band from the 80s. Sting was their frontman ( check out The Big Push doing Englishman in New York).
    King Dotta has dropped a couple of good tracks since Ren's diss, one called thank you so I believe Ren has had a big influence on him.
