  • One and half year ago I bought an electric bicycle Himo z16 for £595.
    Was it a good deal?
    How much time consumes the maintenance?
    And why is an ebike better option than public transport?

    Very nice review! I currently have 1200km on mine. I need to do some maintenance on mine since the chain is getting rusty and I believe the brake pads need replacement. Do you have any recommendations for the chain and where to get brake pads from? Thanks!

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před 10 měsíci +1

      From my experience chain and brake pads last cca 3000km. Just put some oil on the chain and adjust the tension. Even a new chain gets rusty in no time if you run it dry. Also adjust the brake pads. Left brake pad - with a hex key adjust the cable length. Right brake pad - with the same hex key adjust the bolt holding the right brake pad. Any Single Speed Chain will do + you need some bicycle chain Riveting Tool / Chain Breaker. For brake pads you need the right shape, google : cfa472 - I am using Mexital brand, as it seems harder and I don't have to adjust it every 200km, but it lasts for 500km before I have to adjust.

    Great review! Just got mine. Is there a disadvantage to upgrading to 60t? I can imagine its harder to do an initial pedal specially on uphill?

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před rokem +1

      yes, it's harder to move forward - good initial kick off is needed. Possible big disadvantage: if battery should go flat, I wouldn't be able to pedal - enormous force is needed, so I would end up pushing it. But now I can pedal at feasible rate and as mentioned I adjust the chain 4x less and it never came off, with 52T it came off few times when delayed adjusting. It's just wrong that it is only single speed.

    Hello again @petriko_ how are you?
    I've been using this bike for 1,238 km, but this morning I couldn't ride it to work because suddenly the throttle stopped working 😢
    I'm not sure if the problem is with the throttle or the controller, because even when I pedal, the speed still shows 0. The controller still works to turn on the lights and change modes, it just doesn't connect with the speed, which is super important..
    It is quite disappointing, especially since I've only had it for 6 months.
    Have you ever encountered this issue?

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před 4 měsíci

      I have 12050km without electrical problem.
      I can imagine disappointment when it broke so soon.
      1. Check all wires for damages and loose connectors. (Check also wire from the wheel and connector)
      2. Check if the shop/seller provides a warranty, if yes then they should repair
      3. If not, you could unscrew main panel in frame: 4x phillips pan head screws. And check controller for loose connectors/damaged wires
      4. Go to himobikes website, and write a message: describe the symptoms and that you checked the wires and connectors. You should have 1 year manufacturer's warranty for replacement parts.
      It will be probably damaged wire/unplugged connector, broken controller inside the frame, or motor/wheel.
      Let me know what was the problem when you fix it.
      (There are ways to diagnose motor, but too complicated and required multimeter..)

    Hello, thanks for you video. I have a question. My free wheel has broken. Perhaps, have you a reference or a link to change it please ?

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před 6 měsíci +1

      You can clean the freewheel. Protect brakes, and spray cleaner/WD40 into freewheel and then oil. I changed mine at 8000-9000km - because the teeth were worn out. (Together I changed the rear tire and tube). Replacement: Dicta 16T 3/32'' single freewheel (thin- width only 15mm). I ordered Dicta 16T 1/8'' - I did not know, now can use only wide chain 1/8" (if you buy 3/32" like original - can use both wide or narrow chain). There is tool to replace, but don't buy it - doesn't work well. Use chisel/screw driver and hammer, and 300mm plumbers grips.

      @@petriko_ Thank you very much for the advice and references, unfortunately I think my freewheel died after 7000 km. I tried cleaning it with WD40, but it only lasted 100km. There are 2 threads for the freewheels, the first is called "British" and the second "metric". which one is suitable for Z16?

    Hello, how to change flat tire on that bike? In one video I’ve seen guys cutting the chain in order to remove wheel 😮 is possible without cutting chain ? Thanks in advance

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před rokem

      1. if you have only puncture, but no other damages. you can try Slime sealant - in most cases works very good. 2. chain last max 3000km, so maybe you can buy new chain and chain breaker - not very expensive. 3. or try to completely loose chain adjuster and slip off the chain, or remove crank set - remove right pedal arm.

    Do you have any suggestion how to wash this ebike? I am struggling with cleaning it since I am afraid will causing issue with the electrical part, but it is very dirty too😅

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Try not to use detergent and high pressure water directly on the wheel bearings and bottom bracket bearing - so the grease from the bearings don't get washed away. Otherwise the motor and all cables and connectors are waterproof. Never had an electrical problem, I wash it like every 1000km and ride during heavy rain often.

    In your opinion is it possible to mount a rear shimano shift gear? (putting it on par with the ado a16 or fiido d2s but with a bigger battery), or you feel there's no space near the rear wheel to accomodate the gears?

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před rokem

      pretty much only single speed free wheel can fit into Himo z16. In today's market, if not 20inch, I would go with Ado a16 - multiple speeds, suspension looks superior, telescopic handle bars, only mudguards seems bit lousy

    • @Masacci0
      @Masacci0 Před rokem

      @@petriko_ I wonder if additionally to the bigger anterior crown it can be mounted a bigger posterior crown too, so that it could have an even heavier gear. I wouldn't mind a single speed, I used a MTB with only one speed for years and it wasn't a problem, the only problem of himo z16 would be pedaling without resistance, if that can be fixed I'm ok.
      ADO is a good option but it's out of stock from months, also has a smaller battery and is only ipx4.

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před rokem

      @@Masacci0 possibly rear freewheel could be turn from 16T to 14T. but I suggest not to limit yourself to 16inch range, check also 20inch bikes. they have many advantages, they are really not so much bigger, and sometimes come with better price.

      @@petriko_ I considered it, but for the kind of use I need the 16. I usually use it for the last km going in and out of the bus which most of time is really crowded so I need a really small bike. Also the max I would do is 5km going and 5km returning, I believe it's enough for my needs. I will see how it goes like this, if something I will make your front gear mod and possibly the bigger rear freewheel. Ordered today, I'll update on how it goes for my needs.

      @@Masacci0 just last point, himo z16 is really really heavy to manipulate and travel in public transport. also due to nature doesn't fold as small as non electric bike. I took it on bus only once, about 3 weeks ago when I got flat tire, It was troublesome, I made it but I cannot imagine to do it only daily basis. that would not work with me. also some countries are beginning to ban ebikes on public transport. well good shopping, hopefully it will serve you well

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před rokem +2

      1. Modify z16 is too expensive, need to change controller and display, possibly cut connectors and rewire.
      2. For the price of z16 you can buy bikes that can be unlocked to 35km/h , it is cheaper option than modifying z16
      3. If you are looking for 40kmph, you need completely different kind of bike, with bigger motor and a huge battery

  • @pasqualepischetola4528

    Is it possible to charge the battery when off the bike?

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před rokem

      Yes, you can charge both ways. Inside bike or fold the bike and unlock the battery with a key. Same principle works Ado a16

      it is on my list along with a free wheel and front wheel bearings. BB I bought some new old stock Shimano UN55 - I think discontinued for some years now, but size should be 68 x 127mm (square taper). free wheel size 1/2' x1/8' x16T, 2x front bearing size 6200 with at least 1 seal - available was NTN 6200LLU

    • @petriko_
      @petriko_  Před 11 měsíci

      @@rudibem unfortunately I don't have a size. The bearing size is printed on bearing's seal - you have to take the wheel apart, or even take the bearing out first - then you'll see the markings or have to measure it. I am sure it will be some easily obtainable size, you just have to choose quality brand that will last. Does the bearing rattle, has play or seized? - I am curious, because I have 10000km and still original rear bearings.
