I went to a weekday estate sale once with my young son--he was probably 18 months old or so.
And when I entered the house, no one else was there but the man running the sale. And instead of sitting at the check-out table, he kept following us around. Now, I've experienced that at yard sales, but never at an estate sale before. Then he started asking questions, that at first I started giving simple answers to, but the questions kept getting more specific. "Where do you live?" & "How old is the baby?" made way to "oh, yeah, I have friends in that town, where about do you live?" "What's your last name?" And at that point, I pretended that the baby had said something, turned to the baby, and said something along the lines of "You're getting hungry & tired, aren't you?", and used that as my excuse to high-tail it out of there.
The guy may have simply been the type who loved to talk, but I was a young woman, alone in the house with a baby and a man I didn't know, and I didn't need much reason to decide that wasn't where I ought to be right then. And like you, I opted out of any more sales that day. We just went home.
You almost said it...florescent!
More weird stuff has happened at Goodwill for me than garage sales. Like the elderly man that wanted me (quickly) to help him lift something when I had seen him earlier with a young woman. Or the little boy asking me to tie his shoe laces when his mother was right behind me. I keep my purse in the cart and watch it like a hawk. I turn down all requests from strangers. Rude, yes, but I don't have to regret being a people pleaser later.
So happy you are safe. God gave us the "spidey sense"- it has saved my life. I am glad yall warned others also. This is how people just disappear and no one hears from them again.
Always trust your intuition!! Even if you're wrong, it's better to be safe than sorry.
So glad you followed your instincts Rebel! I would be freaked out if that happened to me, as I am almost Always alone at yard sales. Typically If I don't see any shoppers, I won't even stop.
Rebel I am sooooo glad you listened to those alarms and were alert to your surroundings. I preach this to people all the time & especially to my kids & nieces. Don’t worry about what someone will think like not wanting to be rude etc. I’ve been at sales where people try to invite just you inside & you’ve REALLY gotta be careful. I’m born and raised up near B’ham, Al & if ya know, then ya know. Always be aware of where you are & who you’re around. Good job Rebel. Stay safe ❤

I was invited to a barn sale. I been there a couple times before. This was a private pick. She told me about all the glass she had in the house and asked if i wanted to see it. There was so much. But then i noticed a man standing in the doorway of a bedroom just staring at us. I quickly left.
I was kicking myself on the way home. No one knew i was visiting the barn sale and here i just walked into a strangers house. I have been much more on guard now.
After that i understood how easy it was for kids to get tricked. Here i am a grown woman walking into a persons house i only met 2x. Never again. Still gives me shivers
God is great.

I had a rummage 2 years ago and had a man come that lurked around and I was so nervous. Some other people stayed while he was there cuz I asked them. 2 weeks later he followed me into my driveway and wanted to go n my house. I got n my car and left. No more rummages

I was about 20 miles outside of Tucson in a tiny town, hitting sales last year and heading down a long single lane dirt road. When I came up to the house my instincts began screaming at me to get the hell out of there which I did. Pay attention folks.
God gave you these instincts for a reason.

I seldom ever go out by myself but when I do I only go to neighborhood yard sales. I know I probably overreact but No yard sale is worth getting hurt over. So glad you’re safe and you got out of there quickly.
Always trust your spidey sense. I did go to a yardsale, and as soon as I drove up to the house, I was like, NOPE. I wouldn't even stop or get out of the car.
I truly believe in trusting your instinct in those kinds of situations. If you get a spidey sense like that, go with it. Better to be safe than sorry. I'm glad you're safe.

I found a vintage popples plush in the trash. I had pretty good results fluffing it up with a cat brush (the one with the bent wires). Maybe that would help with the rubber face plush you bought. Also! So glad you listened to your gut!! Even if they didn’t have bad intentions, it’s pretty clueless of them to set you up like that…

I’ve survived too much bad in my 46 years! I don’t think my Spidey Senses are ever turned down. If I step out of Walmart in the dark and there’s a vehicle parked beside mine with people in it, I get in on the opposite side! Yardsale alone isn’t happening. I’ll just wait until my beloved husband gets to his eos and we’ll shop together. I’m all he’s got & watch my back and all the other angles too!
