The Evolution of Whales from Land to Sea - Time Lapse Size Comparison

  • The first whales appeared 50 million years ago, long after the extinction of the dinosaurs, but long before the appearance of the first humans. Their ancestors were most likely four-legged, even-toed land mammals adapted for running. Therefore, cetaceans share a common ancestor with modern artiodactyls such as cattle, pigs, camels, giraffes and hippos.
The whales we know today are very well adapted to life in the water. Millions of years in the ocean have supported transformations to facilitate life in this new environment. The nostrils have evolved into blowholes and are now located on the top of the head. The hind legs have disappeared and the front legs have turned into flippers. His body had lost fur and almost all of his hair. This is simplified. The horizontal and powerful tail vane has been attached to the spine. These adaptations obscure the relationships that exist between whales and their closest living relatives.

Largest humpback whale ever recorded was 27meters long and weighed only 90 tons, it might be 17 metres 90 tons, cause 27 meters would make about 160 tons of humpback
