PERTH: Is this skyscraper a new city icon?

- Plans for two new towers in the Australian city of Perth's Elizabeth Quay area have been approved and are set to start construction.
But previous proposals were more dramatic and some have said the new towers are too bland. What do you think? How will these towers shape this burgeoning district and the city's skyline?

Perth needs more interesting architecture. I loved the design of the Twin Towers that were proposed a few years back. What a pity they didn’t get built.
I preferred the building with the plus cantilever thing, I think its too boxy in the new design. BUT I can't wait till you become more known, these videos are very informative
I agree and thank you! I have lots planned!
@@urbanado5040 if you don’t mind, how old are you and when did you get into architecture and cities and things of that sort.
love it
The taller, the better
Well I live in Elizabeth Quay, the Chevron building is nearly done and construction has just begun on this site now.
geez that building gives me anxiety
Perth ❤❤
I didn't know about this, and I am from Perth.. it's interesting. I'm not too sure about the design like many people, but it's alright.
It's a nice building but the east-west width on the redesign is gonna block a lot of light from the quay. The MRA has cited this concern for the quay in general before so hopefully it gets revised. Something that doesnt close off the profile of the city for people in the quay/South Perth would be nice.
Deadly infrastructure 🤙🤙
I like the building, but not at Elizabeth quay. There shouldn't be any tall toweres in front of the bhp building. It'll ruin all the angles to take photos of the city haha
Nice video. I may be wrong about this but possible these overbearing glass boxes are part of the contract that allowed/subsidised a new quay to be built to “connect” the Cbd to the river. It seems ok, bit of bizarre place, I like the design which seems to incorporate aboriginal elements, but it’s named after the queen. It seems nice now, but who knows once all the towering glass boxes go up. It’s like the place is one big compromise without actually focusing on what its main purpose should be, connecting the river to the city’s residents. I’m all for big towers which can be built anywhere, but there’s only so much river foreshore.
If you're going to block the other buildings, at least have character. The other buildings are so well designed, a full-on glass box would look out of place.
But it might be good, who knows
It looks like a plane box
you mean plain
I love this city 😍😍😍😍 can anyone send me an invitation to come 😭😭😭😭
Even with the cantilevered “+” feature, it was just meh. But the newer version is not even worthy of the worse in office architecture of the 1980s and 1990s. The trees are always nice, I guess… And that absolutely insulting lower-height building adjacent; like, why even? Lol
Also, new subscriber here and I really like your videos/channel- hope to see more!! 😁
The Tetris tower.
What i think is that le whole thing waz a fkup 4rom day 1. I prefered le Swan Key design rather than C--t ov England key. Basicallee le way Terminator 2 nuke's that scene u could b correct in saying that it is a Newk icon 4 Perth in Scootland. Especiallee re-designed as a - rather than a +. Swearth Itl Airport...........
Perth can't get anything done right let alone WA most likely completion date 2100
Yep while Perth farts around Brisbane's skyline is surging ahead.
Most modern buildings are quite ugly, this new skyscraper certainly conforms to this statement.
I think it’s probably the 2nd ugliest building in Perth after the hideous BHP tower. Perth needs something totally sexy mind boggling and absolutely unique. A building shaped like a swan or a snake but upright would be incredible
NO !
ghastly. two boring ugly boxes . a waste of space . Go Perth!
design looks boring as hell
I don't think it suits the city Perth is not really a modern city
Not a modern city?? Are you insane? Its one of the most modern cities on earth. Come to Europe, thats not modern
Perth is absolutely modern. If anything it has a distinct lack of old charm
