One of the many things that made this series so great was the way that they played believable female characters and didn't do drag for laughs.
This is priceless and the relationship between Iris and Mrs L, one of the highlights.

@Crom Drag has nothing to do with being transgender, it's just like any other kind of performance art and all genders are allowed to do it. Not only that but Reece and Mark here are playing two cis women which they do all across this show since they along with Steve Pemberton play the vast majority of the cast no matter what the character's gender is
still one of the best comedies ever

@@Olduvai9IIRC Mark said Iris was meant to have had Judy as a teenage mother and unwed, and had her taken away by social services and adopted. Years later she hired Iris not knowing she was her mother but later found out and never treated her differently to before 😂

I put a friend onto this after I forgot about it for 20 years - he was blown away and made a passing comment that it was a sketch show. I hadn't even considered it was, but underneath I suppose he was right. BUT, it was so cleverely done that 20 years back it was truly like it's own boxset series about a small town. So clever.
One of the best things made in comedy, ever.

I'll always be grateful that they put a trailer for League of Gentlemen on one of my Little Britain DVDs! I had never heard of it. I soon discovered it to be far superior to Little Britain, along with Psychoville and Inside No 9.
