Get some springtails to feed on the mold. Tell them they’re permanently invited to Botanical Luxury Resort 😂
Yessss hahah they need to get in there and feast!
Don't get spring tails! I got some by accident from a plant I bought. They get all over house and won't go away! They will get into your food like flour and rice, even if they are in cabinets. The internet acts like if you let your plant dry out that they will die easily but they won't!
Do not get sprintails! They will infest your house and get into flour and rice in your house!
begonias are the most ethereal, alien-esque houseplants. I can't believe I don't have more 😩
I am definitely begonia curious because of your content! Bring on more begonia videos whenever you’re feeling it.
You are so good at your job! Your content flows seamlessly 💚🌷💚
Thank you so much 🤗
I let out a sigh of relief when I saw the notification 😊 so lovely to have your beautiful vids to look forward to!
Awww thank you 🥺🥺🫶🌿
I totally agree!! Please do more long form like this 😂 you teach me soo much. Thanks to you I have 2 more wishlist plants 😅💚
WOW just WOW 😲 your little Begonia collection is wonderful 💯 I love all of them! I don't have a Begonia but they are amazing plants. I can't wait to see how much they grow for you.
Thank you for all the dedication and effort you put into your channel and plant collection. It's so enjoyable to watch your videos. I enjoy both of your channels. Way to go Fern keep up the good work. You're amazing ❤🎉😊
I am here for the begonias. Thank you for posting this Fern 🧡🌿
Loved the begonia video! a suggestion would be to add a couple pings to help with the fungus gnat problem. Ha ha I have vermiculite on my “to buy” list 😊
Love the begonia videos❤looking forward to seeing your updated begoina collection 😊
'I need to stare at it every day' best quote of the day
Hi! Beautiful begonias, I love them. You have made a Great job
I've been totally into begonias for the past year, they are the coolest plants. They may even be surpassing my hoyas in terms of favorites. Yours look fantastic! I keep my smaller ones in my large Akerbar as well. To help with humidity, I used foam weatherstripping and have clear acrylic trays that fit snuggly in the bottom with leca in the trays. It works great, and I just toss some water in there occasionally. I use magnets to keep the lid tight. My maculata, bat wings, Benitochiba and burkilii are too big for it, so they are in the Ikea cabinet and do fine in there (humidity is around 60%). Amphioxus has grown so large, they may be searching for a bigger spot too :)
The melinobatta is amazing looking. I like weird looking plants.
I have the akerbar collecting dust in my spare bedroom with nothing in it. 🤦 I LOVE Begonia so thanks for the inspiration! 💚
I literally just got some more begonias for my little terrarium when this video popped up on my feed! I’m definitely starting to like begonias a lot more! You have beautiful ones!💕
Wow, that begonia moona is GORGEOUS. Can’t wait to see the shiny blue one (forget the name already haha) when it grows up. You made me a begonia girly :) You would love begonia black mamba. It’s so pretty, dark foliage that’s also shiny and a tad velvety.
I never even noticed the cord with that black cord cover on it. Great 👍🏻 deal
So nice to get a long, close look at this whole setup and the begonia within. Hope to hear about them more going forward! Just bought my first one the other day. (a simple double dot) Hope I dont kill her. 🤞💚
The Draco…begonia is reallly nice with the bumps on it.
That begonia is stunning. It’s so spiky looking but you say its really soft. Plant it higher.
Fern is actually a natural trendsetter for me. Like a lot of the things she tries I end up wanting to try myself. It's a long list atp since I think I have been watching since 2020. At least she is a good influence I think. 🪴
Same 🙌🏽
Hi Fern. I just received a mulonobullata today. Trying it for the 2nd time.
The tall one u said at the end is your favorite is a cane begonia, they grow tall.
I think u have several canes.
I enjoy your videos.
So relaxing. 🌷💚
I looooooove begonias, but I'm scared to have them in my apartment 😂 please please please make more videos about them, they care looks completely different from any other houseplant that I have atm
I love this so much! I think I'm going to watch it again tomorrow 🥰 I'm a begonia newbie, but I just love them 💕
Hey @wildfern I’ve just converted one of my akerbars into a terrarium and got around the cable and water issues by opening the top clips and moving the top piece of plastic enough to poke the cable through and then just pushes them back into place and voilà - no more cable inside😃😃😃
This is how I have my cord as well!
Since you mentioned air flow, I saw some people putting small computer fans at the top of the side in this greenhouse, it fits perfectly and creates constant air flow, which i imagine is especially great for fungal infection prone plants! :)
I have those in my large cabinets, but it would be way too large and powerful for this one.
@wildfern I mean those but in like quarter the size, they fit in quite nicely :)
I've been wanting one of those greenhouse, and I'm just going to do it. Ikea now has this cool $5.00 delivery to local stores, so that's awesome. - Ohhh! Good to know, so glad I saw this vid, bc I've been looking at it in your previous vids. Bummer that the bottom isn't attached... Gosh, I'm really afraid of vermiculite. When we bought our house, here in Canada, we had the vermiculite insulation in our attic tested and it had asbestos. It's an old house, and I'm sure with our laws that it has to be a different kind of vermiculite these days, but fear is a funny thing. I can't bring myself to try it.
I have had great success with using vermiculite to top my seeds when I sow them outside. 😊
I love begonias and your collection. I recently bought a big beautiful begonia that looks like melanobullata in a grocery store and it's slowly but steadily dying on me. I think it needs to go to akerbar. Which, by the way I bought in a color yellow and it was a pain to weatherstrip since there is no yellow weather stripping in existence. But I managed somehow and it keeps about 80% humidity, not the greatest but what can you do. I really love your whole set-up. Begonia akerbar like yours is the dream
You have so many beautiful and unique begonias.
Jaclynn from Jaclynn's Jungle has had rusting on the bottom of her Akerbar, fyi. You might want to find a way to seal it or a tray to put in the bottom so moisture isn't in direct contact with the metal
A tray is a great idea!! Thank you :)
I have a terrarium begonia collection so loved this video. I got to see which ones you have and decide if I want to add them to mine. I think your potting mix looked good. I also keep mine in their pots since they are pretty small. I use a large fish aquarium with 2 fans and moss on the bottom. I thought your instincts were right on with which plants to repot/take out etc. I try some outside of the terrarium and put them back in if if doesn't work. Also, wanted to mention that when you talk to yourself, like thinking out loud, it is a wonderful aspect of your videos. Few other utubers do it yet it really keeps the video from being boring and adds this intimate charm.
Wow, your begonia look stunning! love the set up and i really like the leca idea, has my wheels turning lol 🌼🌱💚
Thanks so much! 😊
They really pop now 🤩🤩🤩
Yes begonia melanobullata flower! Mine recently did!
Love begonias! I'm thinking about getting another milsbo solely for begonia... they are just SO pretty!
THE VIDEO I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
I am getting back into begonias again, since the two that I have are doing well lol. Not sure if that’s a sign that I am good at growing them, but I still want a few more :P. Your begonias look so lovely~
Springtails will help so much with mold!
So I have three Akerbars, two of which I turned into begonias terrariums. Both are holding 90% to 95% depending on day vs night. The mysterious dark one you have and the Sarawak at least need way higher humidity so I would absolutely put them under cloches. A lot of mine are because I like to see them so I’m into growing them in tubs.
Also, I think that dark one may be a Begonia Black Blood or begonia Daun Hitam. It’s hard to see on a small screen but look them up! What a great collection (and video). Been lurking for over a year but this is my first comment! ^_^
EU pals, has anyone got similar lighting options to Barrinas? 🙏🏻
I'm way late to commenting, but I wanted to pipe in. I also have an IKEA Akerbar with plants in it, but I've made mine vivarium style. By that I mean I made a foam background with pockets to plant things and planted everything in the greenhouse itself, without pots. I also recently got a cheap humidifier and some hose and drilled a hole in the background and now use that to maintain the moisture level.
It's really beautiful and I always get such compliments from friends about it. It's also made keeping high humidity plants much easier.
Mine grows beautifully in my sunroom with 60 to 70 humidity.
Clicked SO fast!!
I recently got an Åkerbär greenhouse and struggled so hard to decide what I should put in it 😅
I also added my first 2 begonias to my collection!
My birthday is tomorrow (28 on the 28th! My champagne birthday 🍾🥳😂) and I'm really hoping I can get the Sage Green Rudsta cabinet!!
I'm planning on buying the same Sage Green utility cart that you use for books and it's a really close colour match to the Rudsta! 💚
Omg happy early birthday!!! That Rudsta is stunning! Sounds like you’ve got a gorgeous setup planned out 🤩
@@wildfernthank you!! And I hope I can get my plants organized in a way that's less chaotic than I have everything now 😂
Great video! I've been waiting for this one! I need one of those cabinets now
Very beautiful little green house full of CUTE begonias✨
💚🌵🍀🌿💚
It looks great! I LOVE begonias
Yay! I love it so much!!
Your vids are my therapy!❤🌿
That green sweater is from Urban Outfitters. I know 🧐cause I wanted it. 😂 well you know everything looks stunning🤩 🍀🪴💚beautiful I mean you truly truly have a green thumb maybe a whole green 10 fingers.😂 i’m a comedian today🤣🤣
Bahaha thank you so much 🫶🌿💚
my dad had a begonia maculata and he was super proud of it but then he repotted it in garden soil 😟
hey please make a wishlist video!
Love your videos.
I think I also have a begonia or two that needs some love, I have a weird bumpy one as well (don´t know the name of mine). You have one with small green leafs and red dots that was in your coffin terrarium I think. I have the same one I put it in a terrarium as well and I think it saved it´s life, it looks so much happier now. I know you said it´s apparently not a terrarium begonia, but it did well for you so I though I give it a try.
I also bought some vermiculite to experiment using it for prop boxes. seems to work fine, not sure if I like it more than perlite sofar as it is really mushy feeling when wet and sticks to your fingers, but the cuttings seem to like it. I might need to do a experiment with a few different cuttings in vermucilite, perlite, stratum and water, that are my go to propagation medias right now, depending on the plant I prefer different ones. I don´t really use moss anymore as I have a lot of my plants in semi-hydro and I have troubles removing the moss from the roots.
Hell yes Ferny! This is the video I’ve been dying for😍 I’m a begonia girly🤭
Ahhh yay another begonia girly!! 💚🌿
Finally!! I had been missing your videos!!! 😭🥰🥰
Awww thank you 🥺💚
@@wildfern of course! 🥰 can’t wait to see an update on this! I just started getting into begonias so v excited to see this! 💚
The dark noid is gorgeous. I love the shape of the leaves they look like wings.
Definitely happy for more Begonia content. Have just started with them. I'm getting over putting plants on moss poles.
Dalulu you’re so funny! I have always had cane begonias. 2 years ago I started experimenting with a variety Rex too! So fun. There are always people interested at our plant swaps.
its so perfect, i want all the begonias in there! thanks for sharing
Perfect color trellis for the NOID
Still to this day my very favorite Planty creator 🥲 Gosh your Begonias are incredible! I adore this set up so much 😍
Also, your hair looks soooo good Fern 🔥
I just did some repotting yesterday, and decided to pot up a begonia maculata cutting I had propagating in a container with sphagnum moss. Well, i learned how fast they can melt once you take them out of the humidity, if you don't do it gradually 😅
Girl! I want these begonias!! I told you I’m coming to your house to shop! ☺️
These are definitely on my list!!
Another great video!
Your skin is amazing girl!!
I really enjoyed this one
I have so many plants because of you and Claire from jungle haven lol
Now I see that I need more bc those begonias are so pretty 🤩
Omg I was waiting for another video😍😍😍🌸🙏🏼🙌🏻 finally
Awww I hope you enjoyed!! 💚
@@wildfern always 🌸😍😍
I got my 1st begonia yesterday and I’m so excited!
Open you tube and having to new post from you 🥰 this one and the hoya crimson queen, love it!!💚🌿
I picked up the Akerbar a few weeks back. I like it so far, great for seedlings or small propagations
Careful with the ones you have in draining pots, they’ll probably be bottom watering with the leca and water in the bottom. Not sure how much water it is but I had that happen in one of my prop boxes and things got soaked.
Ohhhh good point 👀 I’ll keep an eye on them!!
I only have two begonias and them seem to be happy and definitely want to get some more but don’t have a clue what I am doing 🤣🤣
I like Begonia, but they don't seem to like me. I think they are so pretty, and there are so many varieties that I'm not going to give up.
you can run a thin bead of aquarium silicone and smear it flat (use a wedge of fresh cut potato as a spatula-the moisture is non-stick to the fresh silicone) to make a gasket like surface anytime you have flat metal on metal contact. i'd remove everything and run beads of silicone along all the joins, etc.. then you'd get' humid tight' for sure. just a fwiw. love yer videos :)
Loved the video and the cute begonias!! I will just say that you might not want to just put the LECA directly at the bottom of the tiny greenhouse. The metal isn't great, and it will rust if you just have water sitting in it for a while. Also, for the LECA to be effectively provinding moisture and humidity to the greenhouse it would be best if you put it on a tray, where it can hold a bit of water on the bottom. Otherwise I fear that the LECA might just dry too fast and you will have to be constantly putting more water on the bottom of the greenhouse metal tray, that will eventually rust because of that. On the air flow, I guess you could get fans? But tbh if you regularly open the greenhouse door it should be fine. Maybe some springtails would help with the mold issue! Apart from this, it's an excellent setup and I hope your begonias thrive!!
Your begonia collection is beautiful 😀🇨🇦
Hi Fern, Your begonia collection is beautiful. I only have one in my collection right now. I wanted to see if I could get her to grow well in my conditions. She is doing amazingly. So more of them will be added to my collection soon. Great video ❤❤❤
Wow, early morning Fern. Good Saturday morning to you!!
Good morning 😃😃
It’s a beautiful display! I really want to make something similar 😊 Can’t wait to see updates on the Sarawak, its a striking variety and I was sad to see it wasn’t doing well
I’ve never had good luck with begonias. I’ve only bought them for outside pots in the summer, but they’ve always rotted on me 😟
ahh so pretty! now I wanna make a greenhouse from this display case too 😭
Yessss it’s honestly become one of my favourite things!
Do you have a video of how you set up your MILSBO cabinets? I have one of each ordered and am wanting to figure it all out
Hey! Yep, lots of videos on those cabinets. Check out this playlist: czcams.com/play/PLk2VPnCqpxVCrLsdWBNWvicHLDw1dCytD.html&si=4zqloRmydWZ0CG5N
Fern, Would you ever consider selling a two piece cutting off your gorgeous "variegated" Thanks giving Cactus?? I would love to get one growing so bad. I must be nuts though, I counted all my Thanksgiving and Easter Cactus plants, some still props, and I have 23 !!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe I had so many. I live in Alberta Though. But if you EVER think about it, Please let me know. Love your videos!!! I was born and raised in Sidney, on Vancouver Island quite awhile ago. I still miss the ocean.
can i just say i have been watching since you got that giant bucket of osmocote and its crazy to see it so low! Also I love the begonia content, im getting into terrarium begonias too
Oh my gosh hahaha 😂 love that. It is wild though, I didn’t think I’d ever get through it!
Love! Kinda considering getting that “terrarium” now
Ikea cases do work so well for greenhouses though. I have one that currently is housing some of my pitcher plants. Hoping to buy some more carnivorous plants soon 😍
I like the LECA look!
I was just going to say you already had a lot of shears. Those little ok great. I have one pair which has held me in good working order.
Your Begonia’s are so pretty. Do you have the Begonia dregei? I recently got one at my local cactus and succulent society sale. It’s such easy care and pretty.
Begonia Scapigera is so cool 😍😍😍
And Begonia Moona 🥹
Right!! So unique 🤩
you should have seen my reaction to when i saw that you posted a new video, i literally clapped my hands 😂
You’re the best thank you 😭🌿
super , yo transforme un par de acuarios para tenerlos de propagación y cuidados especiales también , gracias por compartir y pasa una buena semana
I love my begonias , my dad composts and has lots of humus from it, and my begonias looooove it. If you can get ahold of some nice humus rich compost they will thriiiiive
Almost all of my begonias melt, including cane variety! I have one that is thriving and I try to just ignore it.
If you are gonna do terrarium begonias be sure to have a prop box. Most of my melted begonias have come back under 100 percent humidity and a grow light!
Yes. I think it would.
I have the same greenhouse and the same problem with keeping in humidity. I did get a small little fan off Amazon that seems to help a bit. I use vermiculite for propagating the same way I use perlite. It works like a charm. Where did you get your plastic cups?
Wow!
put a couple pinguiculas in there, they will love it and they will feast on the gnats. been waiting for this video, trying to figure out how I might best use the akebar. I have a smaller version for small ferns. thanks..I'm a big fan..
I gave in and got my first begonia the other day because of you lol. I got it and put it in the window; 4 days later the leaves were feeling pretty crispy so I watered it. Love it so much already, it’s a begonia Rex and I didn’t realize how beautiful it was in the sunlight. I fell in love instantly. The growth pattern reminds me of the golden ratio or Fibonacci sequence. 🧘🏻♀️
Ohhh it sounds stunning! Begonia foliage is next level 😍
Okay also as a tip! If anyone is like me and wanting this greenhouse but doesn’t have an ikea near them there’s a DIY version on Pinterest done with photo frames 🥰
What do you do with the old soil? Is there a way to recycle it?
oof, gonna have to get some begonia. it’s fine. everything is fine.
Hahah yesss 💚
