Welp per usual, I feel the need to make a few corrections based on comments and acknowledge a few blunders in the narration as well:
03:10 Yes, the numbers on-screen add up to 18 on their own, but INCLUDING the American Adventure, this is what results in 19...so 18 vacant spots, plus The American Adventure is 19.
19:05 Yes, the structure for Millennium Village is still at Epcot and used for various events, but when I say "short lived", I'm referring to its use as Millennium Village, which closed in January 2001.
19:41 Evidently my head was too stuck in the past when recording, as I accidentally say "9 countries" instead of 11 countries in the summary

Unfortunately it looks like Mary Poppins has been scrapped too. It's just rumors right now but they're apparently credible. Helps that they didn't break ground for that one IIRC. They're sort of married to *some* sort of Future World revamp, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Ratatouille ride. Play Pavilion less so.

So sad about the credible-sounding rumors that the Mary Poppins Cherry Tree Lane expansion to UK Pavillion will be a casualty of this whole COVID thing... But realistically, with so many other things already half-done, or nearly all done, actually, that one would make the most sense to scrap ☹️

You also confused Switserland with Scandinavia in the beginning (around 3:45). They are two very different things. Switserland is a country in the middle of Europe and Scandinavia is a group of country’s in the North-west of Europe including Norway, Sweden and Denmark :)

The Soviet Union seems like a really odd choice (and the most requested, really?) considering they were our enemies during the Cold War. Maybe have a cannibalism display reenacting the siege of Leningrad?

@@pickles3128 Well, you can see what they were planning when the video talks about the Russia pavilion (since Russia was part of the Soviet Union and Moscow was its capital). In the late '80s, I know a lot of people were starting to hope for more open communication between the US & USSR so, it being a highly requested country at that time is not terribly surprising to me. Similar motivations as Billy Joel performing in Moscow in 1987. People were kinda ready for the Cold War to be over.

The rides that were canned seem really cool, and it would've made the park more well rounded in terms of rides. Since most of the rides rest in Future World. Sadly, the World's Fair model doesn't work anymore.
Foreign countries aren't exotic now, and these pavilions tend to stereotype as they distill a huge country into a small lot.
Are you going to be WOWed by a riverboat ride that uses tech from the 1960s? (Given how many love Splash Mountain, probably yes?)
Or...Given the cost of admission, would you visit an African pavilion that featured a modern motion simulator based on Wakanda? How about a Human Body revamp hosted by Ant-Man? Doctor Strange making your senses go haywire in Journey Into Imagination? Captain America time travel through American history as we battle HYDRA?

@bigevilworldwide1 Eisner may have initially pulled Disney out of a rut, but I think he suffered from a massive savior complex. It didn't help that his main reasons for building MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom was jealousy over rival parks in Florida. He was initially held in check, but after Disney President Frank Wells died in 1994 and Jeffery Katzenberg quit in 1995 to establish Dreamworks, Eisner was left with no one to really hold him back.
Since then, Disney's strategy seems to have mostly been "Buy everything", but put little money into trying to update or renovate established attractions.

Under Walt and Roy Disney, those seemed "possible"; they managed to get Disneyland built despite the fact they literally have no money to build it - The TV show was his way to fund it. The 1964 World's Fair was another instance of successfully attracting sponsorship for his ideas.
Post Walt and Roy Disney is where the magic wore off on sponsorship. A screwed economy and increased expenses directly affect large fairs like these. I am surprised that so much was left out. Back when I visited this place back in 1994, the World Showcase area had enough things provided to take the better part of a whole day to visit. My family and I had to come back to Epcot a few more times just to see everything that was provided. If they had more as intended, it would probably take a near week of vacation to see and enjoy everything. My favorite pavilion was the Japan one. The things provided and shown were the most unique of all the other gift shops, and the staff were so overwhelmingly polite.

If each land had those cool concepts, it would have made Epcot a multi-day park! Mount fuji, UK. Italy, and Russia boat rides, those all sound amazing.
