Jin told her daughter Meimei how big her Mom's Panda was. Ming's Panda was huge red panda of them all and her sad story that led her to leave a scar mark on her mother's face.
Ming has been afraid to keep the panda due to the darkness within, the fact that she don't want Meimei to keep it as it can take her away from her daughter.
