I try and get some history and learn about the Artists I react to and share In my videos.
Sometimes this can backfire and there's always a risk of getting something wrong.
I pinned a comment apologizing for that but I still got a lot of messages , some not so nice.
This was my first time hearing Nightwish and my first attempt at learning about them and In my Outro my brain said Tarja because I had read she was the bands first vocalist and simply made a mistake by saying she was the lead singer in this performance .

We all make mistakes and you tube is meant to be about entertainment and fun. It’s not like your ‘mistake’ caused a plane with 300 on board to crash. And, after all GLS is a ‘Tarja Track’ . Lots of messages ‘you got it wrong’ I understand but those ‘not so nice’, cannot be from true Nightwish Army fans. Stay on board with Nightwish, with Tarja, Annette and Floor, you won’t be disappointed. May I suggest you take a look at a Tarja GLS. If, like me, you think ‘good, but Floor’s is better’ I would not be surprised. Also, there are a lot of GLS covers. Please take a look at Andra Ariadna’s GLS to see a very good ‘non Nightwish’ rendition. ( you tube ‘Andra Ariadna’ and on her site, playlists, and ‘nightwish covers’).
Agree with @brianwillson9567. I've followed Nightwish for nearly 20 years and it's been great over the last few years to see so many people be exposed to them. With that, the fan base (NW Army) has grown massively and unfortunately you may get a few who aren't the same as the rest of us. I guarantee you the vast majority of us will embrace you and your journey with this amazing band. We may correct and inform you so that you can learn more about them but it won't be done out of hate or anger. Ignore those others as they do not represent the rest of us. We are here for the ride if you choose to get on...if you do, you will not regret it. As others have said, follow Gabriel's list. I appreciated the fact that you looked them up before you started the song. Most don't even do that. Big hello from Scotland.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

The leadsinger is the one and only Floor Jansen, Valkyrie Goddess of metal. Best singer in the world.
Tarja was the first female singer (pure opera). Then came Anette (poppish) and until today for 10 years Floor Jansen who can sing just anything. From the highest notes of an angel to the deep growling of a demon and this live in perfection.
Thanks for the apology. There is no way Tarja could sing like this although originally written for her. Floor Jansen has a vast range of styles, diction and breath control compared with so many other singers. She had only joined Nightwish mid tour ten months before this concert and they had only recently returned to Europe so most of the 82,000 crowd hadn't heard her sing with Nightwish. It took less than half of the opening song, Dark Chest of Wonders, to win virtually all of them over. This is song 13 of the set.

Tarja is an amazing vocalist. However, she was the first. She exited in 2005. This is the Dutch queen of symphonic metal. The amazing voice of Floor Jansen. Charisma, stage presence, operatic and musical theater training creating an emotional master storyteller and an utterly beautiful and empathetic soul.

Nightwish is a Finnish band but the singer you heard here is not Tarja. In fact this singer is not even from Finland. Floor Jansen is Dutch and has had a long career in her home country The Netherlands with Dutch symphonic metal band After Forever wich she joined in 1997 at age 16. She joined Nightwish in late 2012.

Tarja was part of the band from1996 through 2005, Floor is from 2012 to present. They are both stellar talents with different styles and both are worth listening to. Floor also has two earlier bands worth listening to After Forever and Revamp. This is just the beginning of this rabbit hole as symphonic metal is big in most of the world and there are many more bands worth your attention. Epica is the next place to start along with Within Temptation, but there are so many more.

A few suggestions here (but general Gabriel's list is way to go! Enjoy the ride.
"Dead Boy's Poem" is brilliantly beautiful and really touches the heart. It is the only song I've seen where Emppu does not smile as he plays. You can also see his emotion as he waves his fingers at the strings during the solo, almost wanting the poignant pause to hurry up. Another favorite is "Ghost River," an absolute banger about death and crossing over the river. One of the heavier songs, but my favorite Nightwish moment is Emppu doing a little bunny hop during the breakdown, then going into a guitar god pose for the harmonic lead.
"The Poet & The Pendulum" requires a bit of background ... it is considered one of the "holy trinity" and is the most devastatingly emotional songs. I'd wait until you have a stronger feel for the band and their songs. In my opinion, the masterpiece and greatest composition of my lifetime is "The Greatest Show on Earth" and is the musical interpretation of the Richard Dawkins book on Evolution. It tells the entire story of this planet, and the life upon it, in approximately twenty minutes. It is so brilliantly composed, that I believe one should get college credits in evolutionary science for listening to it

Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

Hello Paulie, welcome into the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish. Instead of Tarja Turunen (NW 1st female vocalist), you just heard Floor Jansen (pronounce Yahn-Sen). Although the band is Finnish, their 3rd singer is not, she is Dutch, lives with her husband Hannes van Dahl, the drummer of the band Sabaton and daughter in Sweden. Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career (initially) just as the background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997, but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons.
On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 (while she was within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Floor replaced Anette Olzon (Swedish and NW 2nd female vocalist: 2005-2012) as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. After one year (shortly after the Wacken Open Air festival concert 2013) on October 9th 2013, it was announced that she was to become the group's regular new front singer.

Hi Paulie. Hans here. It was fun to look at your reaction after I pointed Nightwish and Floor to you and this performance out. I told you that you would love this band and specifically Floor Jansen the Dutch lead singer.
I saw that the Nightwish army is already getting in contact. I told you so. So go down the rabbit hole and enjoy the world of Metal symphonic, which is so beautiful.
But be aware that Floor Jansen as a vocalist has much more done in the past bij herself. Look at her performances at the show “Beste zangers”, for instances The phantom of the opera with Henk Poort, but many others.
Floor is an amazing singer. The best on the planet earth at this moment. You will know for sure, after hearing more of Nightwish.

Floor is truly a humble Queen. I have been seeing people bowing to Floor recently. Empuu does at least 1 flourishing bow to Floor during a show, and during an interview with her husband, Hannes (drummer for Sabaton) bowed repeatedly to Floor in recognition of her mothering skills. I hope Floor is well and her new baby arrives healthy very soon.

Faites le festival Open Air Wacken 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, vous venez d'écouté la chanson 13 sur les 15 du set complet. Welcome to the wonderful diverse world of Nightwish. UK Oldies Division of Nightwish army here as a new subscriber. Hope you'll keep on watching and listening. Especially their live recordings. I saw them live at Wembley in November 2022 and it was the most amazing experience. To hear more from them, I suggest you follow Gabriel's list or pick and mix from it. I have followed Nightwish for some time now and have just about every Nightwish recording, live and studio and not a single track I don't like.

I've seen hundreds of first-time reactions to this song and even more first-time reactions to Nightwish. FYI, this song is known to be CZcams's most reacted-to video. While about 25% of The Netherlands is situated below sea level and another 40% is at sea level, I live in the most southern, hilly, part of The Netherlands in the province of Limburg. My village is situated at about 120 meters ABOVE sea level and some 30 kilometers further east the highest 'mountain' of The Netherlands is situated, measuring 321 meters above sea level (for feet: multiply meters by 3). That white Florida sand beach sounds very inviting. Hope your region doesn't have to suffer from tornados.
