The new VB WRX has gotten a lot of hate for the cladding around the car, but today we're fixing that with some paint matched fender flares! Out with the old and in with the new! Let me know what you guys think of the new flares that not only give us the paint matched look but are also 10mm wider!

I got used to the cladding and it didn't bother me, but without it the car looks more expensive.
It definitely changes it up a bit. I didn't mind the cladding either but I've gotta say I prefer this.

I don’t mind the bare plastic on the front and sides except for the massive rear bumper. It needs some paint to break it up.
that not 100% paint match on the white would annoy the shit out of me. from far away it looks ok but i don't think i could do it on white. the wrb look very good.
Whats up with the fitment on the rears? I can see gaps toward the back after you were done installing--- 7:40-on and 11:17-on. was there any fix for that? I was thinking about getting a set and this was a little troubling.
If they released the current wrx as a smaller run "wilderness" trim people would have loved it. Ultimate off road wrx. In the show room it is right on with the rest of subarus current design language.

Am I the only one who noticed the rear panels don’t fully cover the two clip spots on the bumper 👀 I really wanted these but I think my OCD couldn’t let that slide 😢 7:40

I’m on the fence I have a white one as well
convinced me to finally upgrade from my 15’ for the 22’ wrx It gets delivered next week, and first thing I’m doing is buying the Afd aero kit and paint matched fender flares! 🙏🏽

Cladding actually makes a lot of sense up here in Colorado with all the rocks and road salt etc. I get people aren't fans of the look but its pretty functional if you are actually getting outdoors when driving.

I’m on the same boat. I don’t mind the cladding, and it definitely doesn’t look as bad in person verses the photos, but I gotta say, the paint matched flares look better. The bumper for sure needs some paint. That’s one thing I can’t get over, and I’ve had my VB for 7 months.

Paint matched fender flares look 100% better on white paint plus the additional 10mm cleans up your poke if you’re running 9.5” wheels. 👍

Just a tip but I find if you heat while removing the tape will peel right off.

Looks way better. I test drove a new wrx premium recently, way better than the 2020 performance pack wrx I had. I'm starting to really like the VB generation.
I bought the black Silica gloss, and it looks awesome, my girl made a point to me that the paint match made it look less like a race car, I protested at first but then I looked at pics in her perspective and I feel she is right, paint match makes it look like a normal car and less special.

If you look at your bumper compared to your quarter panel they do not perfectly match from factory and that is do to dissimilar substrates. Just an FYI you can not perfectly match even if the paint is applied at the same time, in the same booth, and with the same paint mixture. However looks good and most people will not pick up on it.
While I don’t mind the cladding on the white this completely changes the look. Subaru should take notes!
If I ever get one I’m leaving the black I feel like the white washes out the body lines but to each their own

With the cladding gone the rear 3/4 looks kinda short and stubby especially with that spoiler I wish that's how it came from factory
WOW that is a huge improvement!
I really like both. The paint match definitely gives you more options for aftermarket wheels (aesthetically), but in stock form or with the right chunky wheel and tire setup, the black flares look great. Especially on the white, I love it. Ive built cars in the past, but the plans for this one are to stay mostly stock. Im a dad, live in the norttheast and the plastic fender flares are a welcome addition to the new wrx.

Its a great option, because even the body shop will not get the color 100% perfect. Just painting a bumper for a dodge ram recall will cost the dealership around 700. Painting is the most expensive thing done at any body shop.

Carbon ones i just peeped dont look half bad. I maybe the minority i love the interior. Exteriors grows on you with mods for sure

I love them. Why look like everyone else its wrx. A rally car Not a Gtd car.
Actually I like SOME contrast. For me the best solution is to keep the cladding but get the car in dark grey or black.
To each is own majority of VB owners love the cladding. I dont want to make my car looks like a corolla with paint match lol
I know 99% of customers hate the black plastic cladding all over the car but they actually have a purpose and help with the aerodynamics of the car.
Painting over them or removing them defeats the sole purpose of what they are intended for, the car does look much better if it came that way from factory, I’m sure Subaru could’ve figured out a way to make them functional with color matching paint.

whoever says they don’t mind the black flares, is lying. They’re just stuck with them until they save up to get the paint matched ones.

I like the cladding, I take my car to the track a lot and it protects my paint
I bought these in black, and the paint has started to chip off after about 5 months of being installed.
I honestly wonder if just getting it painted would be better for the long term

PRO TIP* You can used WD40 to easily remove and eat away at the adhesive w.o damaging paint.

Unfortunately with the white you can see in the video the color is off….
The fitment looks off and normally the camera part hides gaps etc. I think if you are super picky you would go the Axis Parts route instead..
