Eh Lin is way less interesting than Toph. She ain't terrible, but compaired to the second best character in the Avatar series, it's hard to compete. I didn't like Lin in the first season, and the season 2 of TLOK is just pure garbage (except for the two episodes about the first Avatar)
Not so much in LOK, finding someone who likes both Su and Lin is damn near impossible.

This video perfectly illustrates the difference in Toph's ans Lin's bending. Lin uses more of her body but is more graceful, almost like she is dancing. Where as Toph uses less of her body but is rougher, if that makes sense.
I think its the opposite! Toph's fighting style and stamces are completely different, more graceful in a way. Lin is more rough with her bending

Well, it makes sense; we see that Zaofu (which is governed by her sister Suyin) trains in acrobatics as well as Earth- and Metal-bending. Whomever thought to combine Earth-bending and graceful moves was a genius.
Honestly It feels kinda off in TLOK How they can just metalbend like they were using The Force or something. Earthbending is all about horse stances and air punches. And metalbend is supposed to be an extremely difficult technique that only extremely skilled earthbenders would be able to perform, yet every goddamn Cop of Republic city can bend those little wires.

Earthbending is based on Hung Gar, but it's never been explicitly, exclusively Hung Gar. Toph often bended with nothing more than a crack of her neck or a twist of her wrist or a stomp of her foot, generally with a wide variety of different results from the same movements. She also was able to make the ground slide along beneath her by doing nothing more than miming a running motion with her arms. Likewise, King Bumi could practically swim through the Earth - he could make it disappear and/or catch him simply by falling backwards.
I could go on and on and on, but ATLA established - with every element - that the martial arts aren't necessary to bend; just that they serve to help the bender make the element an extension of their body. Well, with that mindset, the creators extrapolated so that - while martial arts remained the basis of bending - anything a bender does with his or her body can result in a form of bending. It's funny how many people nitpick LOK when ATLA played far more fast and loose with what physical movements constituted "bending".
Metalbending is so "extremely difficult", but a little girl could do it. How? By feeling the "impurities within the metal" - which is redundant as metal is still fundamentally rock, or "Earth", and a bit of silly logic: if all it takes is to feel the bits of Earth, why hadn't any other bender in millennia discovered the ability? Why _couldn't_ every Earth bender feel the Earth within metal? They can bend sand, right? Even if we overlook that metal is still fundamentally Earth, just going by the logic that the show uses it stands to reason that just about every Earthbender ought to be able to feel the Earth within the metal.
As for Republic City and Zaofu, they are the students and descendants of Toph. She taught them - it's not like they stumbled onto it for themselves (even though, as I already explained, they should have lol).

I think because of how Korra has seen Lin fight, the first time she saw Su's dance routine that she thought it was an attack pattern. It would make sense, all things considered.
Su is a dancer by profession/choice, Lin isn’t. That’s why only one is called a dancer.

These clips showcase one of the reasons Toph was always so successful as a bender. It wasn't just that she "listened" to the earth around her, but also that she was always ready to hurl herself head first at imovably solid obstacles with 100% confidence in her skills that that they would break and bend beneath her.
I think Lin is my favorite character in the Korra series. I haven't watched Avatar: The Last Airbender but the fact that Toph is Lin's mom makes me love her already.

people who like to make amv vids should really take this vid as an example of how to properly make one.the timing in this vid is PERFECT!it seems like a lot of AMVs are just randomly put together showing people fighting or whatever in no coordination or rhythm to the song at all.

well if it's a fan project for fun, i couldn't bring myself to fault others their creativity all that much. it's all in service to spreading fan fun :v pls don't slop on others' parade :v we do our best, and i honestly haven't ever AMV'd anything in my life. I bet it's tough; I did actually have some aesop's fable to animate from googled clip art in middle school, and that was rough and rudimentary and really sucked and i got tired & frustrated and biffed the last few frames instead of letting them progress a whole lot better than the choppy sequence I ended up with.
so fan amv creators. pls try to lay off em, even in the middle of your enthusiastic consumption of their media :< cuz in the end, y'all both ended up liking the ip, and They put all that effort into another something for you and others to enjoy further... and u let This into the world.

As impressive as Lin having her metal bending experience is terrifying BUT she still isn't on the same level as her mother - Toph didn't need metal bending for a large portion of what she did and she DID discover the bending and she was able to do what her daughter has learnt to do too :) So overall MAMA WINS!
Plus you have to remember that toph used her abilitys to basically predict what the bender/person was going to do next and she easily is the strongest earthbender Alive

Near the end of the song, he mentions "god" and at the same time, Aang is being shown how to energy bend, then Korra learns, therefore the legacy of the Beifongs continues. Mama definitely said keep knocking em out.

This really is one of THE best AMVs I've ever seen. One of my personal favorite moments? "Old English filled my mind and I came up funky rhyme" paired with Toph learning her own unique style of Earthbending right from the badgermoles (1:35). That's really clever!

I like to think they're supposed to be two sides of the same coin: Suyin is more carefree and less restrained with her bending as well as her attitude towards life, while Lin is more controlled and strict, though both display a lot of strength in the different ways they use their skills. It's easy to see Toph in both of them: she didn't care a lot about social norms or rules, in the same way that Su seems to appreciate the unconventional, but she also had high standards for other people, like Lin clearly does.
