This is the heart of metal. One of the most popular Megadeth songs.
sup Mr. Metalmark.
Most popular Megadeth album.
@@jason_108 Hi Jason108
I'd say heart of thrash metal. Not the heart of all metal. That should be like Black Sabbath, or Metallica, or Gojira.
This is the song that made me a metalhead. I only bought the cassette back in 91 because the cover looked cool. Not a single thrash album could top this album for me.
Nick Menza beating the crap out of that drum set like it owed him money will always be one of my favorite things about this music video.
RIP
Same as Garth Samuelson on Wake Up Dead, even on Set The World Afire
RIP Nick! The best lineup.
Miss him so much 😢
Nick and Charlie Benante were the two guys who made me want to play drums. He was great. My favorite 'Deth lineup.
Never, never, NEVER, play a drinking game where you take a shot every time Megadeth play a guitar solo. You *will* die 😂😂😂
😂
Especially if you’re listening to Hangar 18!
Lol, fact.
Last mistake. No more mistakes...
@@aha3885😂
The first part of the song is Holy wars, naturally about religion and war. The second part is The Punishment Due, literally about Marvel's the Punisher.
Truly a masterpiece. Megadeth - Tornado of Souls is another masterpiece from the same album which also will blow your minds.!!
The solo on Tornado is a masterclass both from a technical and musical standpoint. Not only is the song incredibly well written but the solo's construction is equally as masterfully put together and performed with superior class.
No way dude. That song has a great guitar solo but it also has the worst vocals on the album. I love Rust in Peace but tornado of souls is an instant skip because of how bad the vocals are on that song.
Their best song imo
@@AlexHernandez-oi5dd The chorus is a little cringy these days.. in the eye of the tornado and all... oh well.
No tracks get skipped on this album. Fantastic from start to finish
This whole album is 🔥! Classic!
The best thrash Record ever made
You're not wrong. My 15yo son finally started taking notice of it about 6months ago and since has been on a whole album in 1 sitting binge most nights this last 2 weeks at bed time he tells me the other day. Its just never gets old.
@@garryaldridge7325 agreed. I lean more Metallica as a whole but 'Rust in Peace' is the best thrash metal album ever made. In the top 5 best metal albums overall.
@@chrisking6667 for sure, you cant compare Metalle with megadeth they are so different ,i like them both
This album right here... in many metal circles, is arguably one of the greatest albums to ever be recorded.
“The next thing you know… they’ll take my thoughts away.”
Man…
Dave was a freaking prophet.
"A country that's divided surely will not stand" Sounds mighty applicable to what we've had going on in the states for a good many years now. Much more so now than how it used to be.
@@yearginclarkedude that's a Bible verse...
@@timetracker8503 Even though I was raised Catholic (but became agnostic in 2002) I never learned much about all the bible verses. If that's one of them I was completely unaware.
@@yearginclarke Not exactly, it is similar, but it says "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand"
@@Russo_Von_Carnificia Thanks
That last line seems to get more and more relevant the older this song gets.
This is my first time hearing these guys although I first heard of them years ago.
I grew up in a Gospel, Jazz and R&B household and this kicks serious butt!
I love it.
I suggest reacting to Peace Sells by Megadeth.
It's in my humble opinion one of their best songs and really fun to listen to.
Nice reaction!!
Not to mention the intro is used at the end of the old school MTV News 😊
Friedman's solos are exotic, finesse, technically excellent and precise. Mustaine's is more street, rough, but killer. The fact he plays those complex riffs while singing has always blown me away. This song will always be one of the all time great metal classics!
A metal masterpiece! The tempo changes are amazing! Megadeth is the only thrash band that never sold out and have a unique heaviness and intelligence about them.
Dave Mustain is a metal god and a favored son of Orange County, CA (HB). 🤘🏻
When did Slayer sell out?
great bands but METALLICA IS THE GOAT METAL BAND and if there was any bands to argue that it would only Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden... I'm a huge Anthrax and slayer fan and can still acknowledge this
@@edmcbain71 Diabolus In Musica is Nu Metal and God Hates Us All is kinda too
Never? What about Risk?
Funny you mentioned the complexity of the song structure and virtuosity of the instruments. Metal is closely connected to classical music. Complex arrangements, layers of instrumentals and insane talent on instruments. Hell there is a whole style of guitar playing called neo-classical in metal.
yeah, I wish they would give Yngwie J Malmsteen a listen
The song is a masterpiece some musicians from other genres might not like it. But they should very well respect it.
people who typically aren’t attuned to the genre of heavy metal usually need to take a double take at megadeth songs. I thinks it’s because Megadeth really was a project that was built on necessity . Mustaine utilized the very best of his band members and wrote songs that made them shine on the record. People call it egoism , I call it being a composer
I simply love this. The best part is that Dave basically plays lead riffs while singing. Not many lead singers do that so that earns my respect.
One of my fav metal solos of all time. Mustaine is a BEAST!
This is the pinnacle of thrash metal!! This whole album is a guitar clinic! Literally the absolute razor sharp edge of thrash metal.
The name of the song is Holy Ways-The Punishment Due and it’s basically two songs in one. The first part of the song: Holy Wars is pretty self-explanatory, but the 2nd part of the song (The Punishment Due) is about Marvel’s character, The Punisher. If you listen to the lyrics in the second half is the song, you will see a story being told from the Punisher’s perspective.
The length of this song is twice as long as most songs, AN ESSENTIAL METAL CLASSIC, and just showcases THE TALENT, his songwriting ability, when it came out it was so relative to what was going on in the world 🌎
The best album of all times ! And this song is fantastic 🤘
Truth
"Next thing you know they'll take my thoughts away." We're on that path now.
I saw them three weeks ago in Saskatoon with a packed stadium and Dave still kicks ass!🤘🏼🇨🇦
I'm glad the music video kept the full instrumental intro, also i wonder if their hair every gets in the way of them playing guitar lol
I just discovered your guys channel, I'm a metal head and a bodybuilder, 2 things that go great together IMO😊
I saw them many times but that tour for the Rust In Peace was INSANE!! Those shows were epic!! Slayer too
The lead singer/ guitarist Dave Mustang was in Metallica in the early days and wrote some music for Metallicas first album. He was kicked out and started Megadeath. You should check out Black Sabbath the grandfather's of metal, and I would also recommend Pantera
Dave Mustang 💀💀💀
@@frankdeutan MY man Dave the real Owner of Cigars huh
Its Mustaine and Megadeth…..
@@cdcesarcervMegadeath 💀💀💀
The album this is from "Rust in Peace" is a masterwork of metal. The entire album is a powerhouse. This particular song is IMO the greatest metal song of all time. "Holy Wars" is so brilliantly chaotic, intricate, and masterfully executed. And Dave Mustaine's solo towards the end of the song is the single greatest guitar solo I've ever heard in my life. It never gets old. Greatness never does. Loved the reaction. Thank you!
Sorry but I would say painkiller is better
We loved it too! Thanks for stopping by!
@@diltberg9627 ehhhhh....
@@diltberg9627 respect your opinion but this is easily top 3 thrash and top 3 overall metal song of all time
See EVH at 1983 US Festival solo leading up to Eruption.
That is the greatest guitar work ever.
Dave Mustains lyrics always makes you think, a very intelligent man
Magadeath ‘Symphony of Destruction’ live in Argentina 🔥🤟🏻
You guys gotta understand that in the 80s and 90s metal songs had long intros to get you rolling then drop the lyrics on you after you’ve already invested into the song!
'Next thing you know they'll take my thoughts away'...pretty prophetic for today I must say.
Damn, is absolutely right! Megadeth is part of the big 4 in thrash metal along with Metallica, slayer, and Anthrax I have to admit I wasn’t sure if you were gonna like Megadeth or not. However, I knew you would appreciate their fast paced guitar playing and storytelling. Dave Mustain was kicked out in Metallica prior to metallica’s first album. Kill ‘Em All which was released back in 1983 I believe. But Metallica utilized some of Dave Mustain’s lyrics and music to that album. So Dave Mustaine decide to go solo after that, and the rest is history.
1)502
2) peace sells, but who’s buying
3)wake up Dead
4)Tornado of Souls
5)in My Darkest Hour
Some kick ass songs to check out by them
Thanks for the intel! Had no idea about Dave being in Metallica. That's wild 😂
I've always felt like of the Big 4, Megadeth and Metallica were at the top, 2 sides of the same coin. Megadeth was thrash to the core, and Metallica was the heavier of the two. Both great in the directions they went. Metallica still has their thrash roots, but they expanded, whereas Megadeth never left those thrash roots, and are still speeding along.
Great tune!! Happy to see you guys giving it time on your show!🎵🎵🎵🎵
Check out songs Tornado of Souls, My Last Words, Peace Sells, But Who's Buying.
This whole album is a Metal Masterpiece!! Hangar 18 has a cool video, and Lucretia has an awesome groove. Peace Sells is another classic Megadeth album, you definitely should checkout!
You should check out... Megadeth - She Wolf - Live - Rude Awakening
She Wolf, so underrated. It's like the quintessential early, NWOBHM-influenced thrash metal, even though it was made in the late 90's
"Next thing you know thy'll take my thoughts away" ~ Dave Mustaine '89. How prophetic to today. Very 1984-ish. ;)
I suggest Hangar 18 by Megadeth it has 13 solos and hella heavy bridges probably u guys will like it.
The best of the ‘91 Shirtless Lineup.😄💪🏻🤘🏻
I got Rust in Piece when it came out. I jammed the hell out it in my '82 RX7! MASTERPIECE!
I Remember i saw this video around 1992 or so,i was blown away, this guys are on another level
Beautiful reaction!
Especially after 5:56 as your reactions devides. One's listening and feeling the music and one's looking out for the deeper meaning of the lyrics a little bit restrained, but both jamming in their own way!
Finally: Everbody had fun - Loved it!
Welcome to the dark side :)
*MORE* Megadeth please.
Also, they are still together, still going strong and they came out with a new album and currently on tour! 😎
>still together
Yep, certainly, mmhm, no doubt about it...
"BECAUSE I DON'T SAY IT,...DON'T MEAN I AIN'T THINKING IT!!!" words that have stuck with me throughout my life!!!
Every Megadeath fan owes it to themselves to see their live performance of Symphony of Destruction in Argentina.
The venue was mad and the band was straight fire feeding off of the fuel from the audience.
The poster child for "thrash" is Exodus the Toxic Waltz. Bands like DRI and Nuclear Assault had the entire "thrash metal" genre on lock down in the 80's. Megadeth does have some thrash songs though, glad to see your reaction, rock on!
You guys are great! Instant subscription. While watching you guys rock out to this I began to wonder if aliens would also headbang when they hear it.
😂
Megadeth is #5 in my top 5 favorite bands of all time. Became obsessed with music around 6th grade. My cousin picked me up to take me to the movies and he had the Van Halen 5150 cassette playing and Dreams came on and that was it for me. In 11th grade I saw the video for Train Of Consequences on MTV of all places and again, mind blown. I bought Youthanasia, Cryptic Writing, Rust In Peace, and Countdown to Extinction on CD and Ive been listening to Megadeth on a weekly basis for about 20 years now. Good reaction video you guys.
Ok it took me a minute for the whole work out deal. U guys r awesome 😊
This is the song you play, on the Battlefield, to usher in Nuclear War.
One of the greatest metal songs of all time, hands down. A song of several different parts that blend together brilliantly, both musically and lyrically. Megadeth's magnum opus.
Dave was into skydiving. You saw him in the video jumping. He wrote a song called high speed dirt about it too.
You guys rocking some megadeth. My favorite all time band. DAVE IS THE MAN!!!
I love the Hair vs T-Shirt ratio Megadeth have going on in this video.
Also, if you want solos you should check out their song Tornado Of Souls, solo in that is fucking unreal.
You guys took me back to my first moments with this, when I got the audio cassette 33 years ago and put it in a two-deck boombox! 'Specially the parts you paused it at and started dissecting together. Totally reminded me how it felt like I was feasting on ambrosia that day!
Do you think you guys could react to some power metal? Two song suggestions: 1) Elegy - The Guiding Light 2) Blind Guardian - Time What Is Time
I know you guys did Sabaton but I think you will get more of an accurate representation of that genre with my two suggestions, from a roots perspective. They showcase that synergy of melody and speed that the style began with in Europe, before the theatrical elements became more of an element with some newer bands.
Cheers!
RIP Nick Menza on drums. I met him in Tokyo randomly, he was a great dude.
"It's like a journey of a hundred years..." nice dude!!
This is probably the greatest thrash metal song ever composed. It still stands the test of time.
However… some of Megadeths best songs, don’t have videos. “Hook in Mouth” and “Polaris” come to mind.
Wake up Dead has a video though… ya might like that.
Dave has alot to say, very intelligently spoken truth, about governments a international policies, etc
NOT JUST MINDLESS HEADBANGING, serious messages in his lyrics
their album peace sells was the first metal i ever heard at 9yrs old in 1986....been a fan since
I just saw your EVANESCENCE reaction from a couple weeks ago, CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE SOBER is a great song and video, it was supposedly inspired by her relationship with the lead singer of SEETHER.
Best heavy metal song ever!
Definitely read the lyrics. That last solo was done in the studio in 1 take. Great video guys.
“Next thing you know they’ll take my thoughts away…”. Genius. #Mustaine
The great Nick Menza RIP 🙏
Met Dave Mustaine and Dave Ellefson at the Costa Mesa Speedway back in like 1987 or so. Even had em sign a pack of smokes for me :D
There is so much I could comment on right here.
I bought this album the day it came out, and believe me when I say I was ostracised for listening to it. It's extremely strange to me to watch people watch this song, never listening to metal before and just jive along with the rhythm and energy of it. It was pure anathema back in the day!
It's like everybody's metal, but most people won't admit or accept or allow it. Why do they resist it so much!
A lot of people have talked about the content and arrangement of the song but what interests me about this song is what came next. This was the first song to introduce that "squeal" sound, which a lot of bands took a lot further. (Machine Head, as a prime example).
Also you paused in my favourite part, but you went back and watched it again so I'm ok :D
Nobody gets that classical part right the way Marty Friedman did it.
my fav song(s) of all time
Holy Wars is from the album Rust In Peace and was released in 1990
Been listening to this album since its release, and still love it today!
A definitive metal classic

It's funny we have to go back in time 30+ years to find "next level". I used to play this song with my band back when this song originally came out.
We need more of Megadeth🔥
Btw, this reaction is great, keep going ✌️
I seen them back in September and they played this song as if you were listening to it like you are. sometimes things never change even over time. this was also their last song of the show.
The ultimate }v{EGADET}-{ line-up imo. The entire album is 🔥
R.I.P. Nick Menza
GREAT reaction y'all 🖒🖒
Great choice of songs you react to! Greets from Hamburg, Germany from @godsnake
Pantera - domination Live in Moscow Russia. I’m turning the bell on and subscribing I’ll be waiting
"Take No Prisoners" should be your next one from this album, it hits just about as hard as Holy Wars.
90’s metal is the greatest era and this song is the standard!!! Try PANTERA “Use my third arm”.
First time i heard this song was like 35years ago...still sounds good today
Loved your reaction
Megadeth is the ultimate metal band 📡☢️☠️🔥‼️👈
The Punishment Due (the 2nd half of the song) is based on the Marvel Comics character The Punisher
A true banger and favorite of mine all time is Wake up Dead! Has it all and a very tried and true complete metal song.
Still their greatest song, in my opinion.🤘 even more appropriate today than when it was written🤘
Long time fan of Megadeth. They've got a lot of great songs.
If you're looking for more recent bands that have this same level of power and energy, look into Powerwolf and Frozen Crown.
The Punishment Due is based on the Marvel comic character The Punisher and refrences the first limited series from the 80s (The Alliance, etc).
I listen to this song to start my workout!
You guys need to listen to Hangar 18, its from the same album. IT WILL BLOW YOUR MINDS
Fill the cracks in with judicial granite. F'n right. Song still gives me goosebumps all these years later. Unlike some bands of this era Megadeth stayed true to their roots
Dave was also in metallica and wrote most of the riffs in kill em all .
One of the best songs of one of the best metal bands. No discussion possible. Just briljant.
There's something about the very end: "next thing you know, they'll take my thoughts awaaaaaay" ending after the music has stopped, that draws an emotional response from me. I don't know what it is or why, but something about that section of the song makes my breath catch.
Imagine what Songs are Out there when Dave stayed in Metallica from the beginning Till today..😮😊
FYI guys, the lead singer, David, Mustaine, was the original lead guitarist for metallica!!🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥🤘🏼
Awesome reaction! You guys definitely picked a good one from Megadeth. If you want to do some more thrash metal you should check out the band Anthrax. "Indians" is a good song.
Welcome to Mr Dave Mustain. Original lead guitarist in a little known band called Metallica. Lots of history between the 2 bands. But both are part of the big 4 thrash bands. Glad u enjoyed it.
At 7:10 it is Mustaine doing skydiving
You got to check out . Life in Hell from last year’s album.. The Sick the Dying and the dead …. Megadeth holds up very good throughout the years .
People these days, would have made 8 songs with the content in this song. 😂😂.. The greatest metal song. Refelctive of talent, rage and intent of Megadeth
Megadeth is so f ing awsome 💯🤟🎵🎸
