  • Hi everyone!
    This video is essentially a virtual open day! I talk about what it's like to be a student at the University of Nottingham, including the different campuses, accommodation, how catered halls work, student life in the city and have included a room tour of my room in Rutland Hall from first year.
    Foll me on instagram: / lucybrettx
    Time stamps are here if you want to skip to certain bits:
    1:03 - UoN Campuses - what they're like and the facilities they have
    4:23 - Accommodation - where is it?
    6:40 - Catered Halls - pros and cons of catered halls, meal card info
    12:26 - Rutland Hall room tour - look round my room in halls!
    13:39 - Student Life - what it's like to live in Nottingham, transport, the city and opportunities at the uni
    Enjoy the video and let me know if you have any questions about Nottingham or studying medicine!

    Thanks a lot Lucy for this video. Watching it brought me back thirty years to 1990 when I worked at UoN as a visiting researcher. The accomodation was called Broadgate flats if I rememer correctly. Those were the days...

      Jo Rich Yes i have! I’ll be starting at Nottingham this autumn (if everything goes well with COVID-19 etc.). My brother went there for his degree a few years ago and i decided i really like the campus and student life from talking to him (and also from Lucy’s videos) haha

      @drlucyrebecca2736  Před 4 lety +3

      Charlotte Parker hi, you’re welcome! How exciting! Don’t worry there’s lots to do in Nottingham, it’s a really nice city - I like all the shops in the lace market area and the doughnut shop at old market square! There’s lots of nice cafes/restaurants/bars too. Wollaton park is good too and the savoy cinema in Lenton is really cute and old fashioned and very cheap for students! I’ve never been to Sutton bonnington sorry but I know they have their own freshers events there (not just partying!)

      @zoeserlin4359 Před 3 lety

      Probably Nottingham 2 or Raleigh park. They are also really near the city in Lenton. Self catered and off campus. If you want catered you probably want Hugh Stewart, Cripps or Lenton and Wortley. But any accom on Uni Park isn’t too far. Hope this helps x

      @drlucyrebecca2736  Před 4 lety

      Hannah Stewart I’m sure it will be fine as I know Sutton bonnington does its own freshers events and things so you won’t be missing out! You’d also have all your course mates there plus vet students etc so you’d all be in it together :)

    I have an offer for MH nursing for Nottingham, my offer holder day for 1st April was cancelled, do you have any advise for a 1st yr Nursing student?
    Do you know what the lecturers are like? How often do you think we may meet with our tutors?
    Also (sorry so many questions I'm so so nervous) what was the support like for transitioning to Nottingham? I would be moving 150 miles from home and may need some added support in my first couple of weeks

    • @drlucyrebecca2736
      @drlucyrebecca2736  Před 4 lety +1

      Paige Jones hi! Thanks for your comment! I’m sorry that I don’t know much about the nursing course or what the lecturers are like but try to not worry too much about moving away from home - it’s very scary but everyone will be in the same boat and will be very friendly. There are ‘welcome mentors’ during freshers week who will be around to help you, answer questions and be a friendly face for you. On my course I only saw my personal tutor a few times in the year but he always said I could email any time to meet up and chat about things. Not sure if nursing is the same but there will always be people looking out for you :)

    • @pigglepowerpaige
      @pigglepowerpaige Před 4 lety

      Thanks for your reply! This actually helps a bit, I am surprisingly not too worried about moving away, I'm not someone who really gets home sick, I'm a bit more excited than nervous honestly. The thing I was most worried about was the support on offer which sounds good 😊

    I'm thinking of making Nottingham my firm to study law however I will be 17 for the first term and a half. Is it harder to make friends if I can't go clubbing or to bars during freshers and first term as a whole? And can I still go to the campus bars if I'm not drinking alcohol?

    • @drlucyrebecca2736
      @drlucyrebecca2736  Před 4 lety +3

      Hi! I don’t think it will be harder to make friends as during the day there is so much going on and you’ll be with people then! If you like drinking/partying it will be a shame you have to miss the freshers nights out but then not everyone goes to them anyway, especially not every night. You will still be able to do the other freshers activities so you definitely won’t be missing out! The campus bars should be fine for you to go to :)

      @drlucyrebecca2736  Před 4 lety +2

      Not really flats, it’s more like a corridor. You share a small pantry with a kettle, microwave etc with your corridor (and a bathroom if you aren’t en-suite) but otherwise you don’t really share a social space!
