Great video, I have a 12.9" iPad M1 and I use it primary as an external display for my 14" MacBook Pro, it's not even that good for watching movies because of the 4:3 aspect ratio. Definitely not usable without a MacBook, but fun to grab and start specific things on before going back to the MacBook for real work :)

Yep, it‘s more like a macbook accessory. Although a great stand alone for creative work

Short answer (Without having watched the video yet): NO and it never will. As much as Apple may claim, that it is a "Computer", it is still just an accessory to Macs/MacBooks.
    ~14 Minutes later.
Ok, a few things. I do a lot of 3D scanning. The LiDAR is awesome for that. Combined with Nomad-Sculpt and the Apple-Pencil, it makes a pretty powerful 3D tool.
I overall agree with your assessment. The iPad by itself is pretty powerless as a computer (regardless of hardware).
Now, as a completely mobile drawing Tablet, thats a different Story, but as a computer? No.
It only starts to shine once you at least put it together with a Mac or a MacBook.
I love being able to quickly draw something up in Procreate and then AirDropping into for example a Coding-Project on the Mac.
I also love the document scanner. Just scan the thing and either AirDrop it to the Mac or have the iPad automatically drop it off to a shared NAS.
    Good Stuff.

Interesting, didn‘t think the LiDAR was actually of any use on the iPad, since Apple only presented it as a AR tool for dancing games and whatnot.
Yeah, overall it‘s just an accessory.
It‘s really great for creative work, it‘s just sad that it has Apple‘s best hardware and worst software

I hear iPad os 18 will allow us to edit videos from an ssd! ☺️

I'm currently on iPad OS 18 Beta and it's no different.
It depens on the app mostly, some apps allow that like Davinci Resolve or Luma Fusion, but Lightroom or CapCut don't allow that.
Hopefully with new updates, doesn't seem like an OS limitation
