I fly a lot from place to place, and take offs and landings never get boring. I don't understand why some people keep reading their books. I always put mine down to look out the window when the plane starts accelerating.
I love everything about it. I love sudden roar of the engines, the way I'm pushed back in my seat, the way it looks like you're going uphill when you look outside because you're accelerating so fast. And then there's that wonderfully nervous moment when the plane starts to fly. You feel like the back part of the plane might bump the runway as it leaves the ground. Of course it doesn't, and then you're away.
The ground recedes away, and you can see for miles around. You ascend through the clouds or not if it's a clear day. Either way, you're afforded a view that's really rather unprecedented in the 200,000 year history of our species. Human flight a wonderful, amazing thing that too many of us frequent fliers take for granted. For the vast, vast majority of recorded time it only existed in our wildest, most absurd fantasies.
Like always, I'll be enjoying every minute of my flight from Seoul to Seattle tomorrow. I like that there's no internet connection or cellphone service so no one can bother me. I like the time I'm afforded to sit and think over a glass of ginger ale (I always drink a ginger ale on flights. Just about every airline has it for some reason too). I look forward to catching up on some personal reading and watch a movie a little later into the trip too. I've got ten and a half hours out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean to spend however I want.

I agree on almost all that you say. The only thing I would question is the 200,000 years of mankind on Earth. I think that makes us a little younger than we are.
My only other quibble with flying the way we do, is how much longer are we going to rely on pumping hot air out the back of a fan for thrust and float on air molecules. Shielding gravity is the way ahead, I believe it's entirely a naturally occurring phenomenon, that has been discovered, but that it's 'fun' for Government and Military to keep to themselves, in their 'funny' kind of way.
Returning to your writings, the kick of the seat in your back on take off is a demonstration of real power, not the damp squib that you get from so-called 'performance' cars.
My favourite part about flying is the moment during and before takeoff. The powerful sound of the engine, the g force pushing you against your seat is just so epic.
My husband was a pilot, my youngest son...learning to fly. It's amazing how these machines get in the air and stay there. My husband was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia about a year ago, and flying is the only thing he still speaks confidently about. 😢 in fact, he just woke up dreaming about applying more power, he was dreaming about flying...😥

It's a form of dementia that is a progressive neurological disorder that affects Cognitive function, memory and balance...a person with this disease has Hallucinations and Parkinson type symptoms. 😢 my husband was only diagnosed 10 months ago...he use to literally climb mountains...now he needs help getting dressed.
chelle My 89 year old mother has been diagnosed with Lewis Body Dementia. She has frequent visions, but all seem to be pleasant ones. The majority are of small children in her room to whom she talks to. She's very lucid at times but other times not so. She still recognizes me and knows who I am so that's a huge blessing. We're just not sure what the future holds for us.

I have read up a lot on LBD...as far as I can tell, the loved one doesn't forget people around them as early as someone with Alzheimer (my grandmother had that and forgot us very early on). I have started to film my husband mainly for his daughter that lives two states away. I put them on a CZcams channel for people to watch so they might understand this disease. That's actually my least favorite part of takeoff. It always "gets me" when the wheels leave the ground.
The sound of the engines just before takeoff gave me chills. It felt like I was actually on a plane ready for takeoff.

Yeah it's awesome. I machined Pratt & Whiney Turbine engines for years but haven't flown except a few times. Been ten years and going up 06/01. Like this flight seems I get to go up right at day break too. To me it's like a mental orgasm with the thrust and acceleration. I have a lay over half way too .. YAY! That means we get to take off again! ;-)
When the plane broke thru the clouds and left the grey day behind, no wonder pilots love what they do.

I have flown about 180 hours in my lifetime and have never been able to sleep at all while flying because I am so nervous. Take-offs and landings are especially bad for me. But, I have to say that once the plane is up, I am always stunned by how beautiful it all is. Don't let your fright keep you from experiencing flying!

Every time I have flown I get that same wonderful feeling all over my body. There’s nothing in the world like flying! Thank you to all the wonderful pilots that operate those fantastic planes. I wish I was getting on a plane right now. But I will have to settle for videos!

In my case, the more experience I got, the less relaxed I got on a plane. Started out loving it but I flew so much the little (and a couple of not so little) incidents piled on to eventually make me a near basket case when I had a flight coming.
My mind knows how safe it is but.. lol..
My dad was a COE (chief operations engineer) for an airplane contractor for Boeing, Airbus, etc.(actuators, flight controls--flaps systems, cargo door systems.. etc..) and his stories and some of the inside info didn't help me relax..

Taking off is my favorite part of flying. I remember my very first airplane ride last year and it felt so satisfying when the plane began speeding up and then finally lifting off into the sky. I was crying and laughing at the same time because I was so happy! The people seated next to me were giving strange looks

I used to fly light planes. Takeoff was a thrill from the feeling of power and the rapid climb. Landing well was a technical achievement which I was always trying to improve. Two different kinds of fun.

Ulysses Wortham Try a stiff drink OR Dr. Prescribed Zanax...will definitely take the “edge” off. Also helps to fly with a friend who is aware of your anxiety.
Ulysses Wortham I've flown many times over the years and was never afraid until I flew with AA last year and almost, on take off, I screamed let me off this thing!!!! I totally panicked. So, had to fly last October again to the UK from Denver, took a Xanax and felt just fine, was looking out the window completely calm.
It's funny how when the plane is on the ground it is going so fast but once up in the air it is so slow. OMG what a beautiful scene when it's flying over the clouds!!!! Love it.

With an increasing number of commercial aircraft being equipped with seat-back LCD monitors, I wish airlines could find a way to pipe this kind of video to the passengers, running continuously from the time the plane is pushed back from the terminal to the time it is parked at the destination. It would certainly be more interesting than some of the in-flight movies they offer.
That wouldn't work. Imagine if something goes even sliiightly wrong and the pilot mentions it, then the people would be all screaming "AAAAH WE'RE GOING TO DIE AHHHHHH LAND THE PLANE LAND THE PLANE!!! OPEN THE EMERGENCY EXIT!"
They would then die, of course. People don't think rationally when something goes wrong unless they understand everything about the problem.
MrAawesomegamer It would work for ME and other techies and nerds. Some people couldn't be bothered, though; they'd rather watch the inflight movie or play with their computers and phones. Finally, if there were something really SCARY in the view picked up by the cameras, the captain would always have the option of turning them off and replacing the image with a smiley-face!
But people would then realize what was going on. Eventually captains would open up and let the people know when a minor problem is occurring, and the people may be fine then, but then they will know that a smiley face almost certainly means death, or worse!
Emirates airlines has forward and downward facing cameras fed to the backseat displays. It sounds awesome at first but the image quality is so low (they ARE feeding it to hundreds of seats after all) that it's not worth watching.
Not a bad idea but like others said it might be best to have it muted.
There comes a part towards the end of the climb when the plane feels and sounds as though it is trying to grab the air to get higher and feels like it is suspended in the air. Then, it pulls and everything is alright. Something like a rock climber trying to get that final hold to pull himself to the summit.
Just an amazing take off, and climbing up threw the clouds what an awesome vew . Makes me want to go on another vacation !!!

Ever since my taking a plane to Minnesota as a child for the very first time ever for the Christmas holidays, I became absolutely fascinated with and fell in love with everything about modern commercial aviation more specifically the jobs of pilots and copilots and those in the cockpit of commercial airlines, pilots and copilots and those in the cockpit of commercial airlines were people I idolized as my role models and hero's as a child for their courage, bravery, skills, and talent to be able to fly such massive airplanes from my perspective as a child, I find these videos absolutely fascinating and extremely enjoyable, entertaining, and more importantly actually having an educational content to them, keep on providing more of these videos safely, I absolutely love them
I am a nervous but frequent flier, and I find these kinds of videos exciting. Nervous as I get, the thrill of the acceleration and initial take off is unbeatable. Watching the video captures some of that!

Terrified being pushed back, look outside if it's really taking off, heart in my throat as it seems to not go higher, close my eyes and say sorry to the people I annoyed and love to all I love and love me, all of a sudden we are flying straight and I thank the pilot for getting safely in the air and let my breath out! Won't bore you with the landing

I love window seat in front of the wing. I fly a couple times a year from Vegas to Denver. I like the G force on take off when it hits 150mph -160mph & starts to lift...it's a rush. Love the ariel veiw, hoover dam, grand canyon, snow capped rockie mountains.
It's pretty cool when you recognize landmarks & roadway systems.

Gosh!! That is such a beautiful video. I have not flied a lot but I agree to a lot of comments here. The adrenaline rush that gets to you when the aircraft thrusts ahead and the view out of the window, different sized aircraft's parked and the airport space passing by and the roar of the engines is such a turn-on!!

I love the fact that camera's can be put in the cockpit & we can see what goes on In there. I love flying & hearing the sound of the engines is so awesome as the plane roars down the runway.

Agreed. I last flew 2012, before then it was around 2006 and before then I was a very small kid and didn’t appreciate flying as much. I’ve actually considered taking a flight within the UK (where I live) and Ireland even though they are short and flying from an English airport to Scotland, then Scotland to Ireland, then Ireland to South of England and trains to and from the airports. Do this as part of a vacation because I really, really miss flying.
I could never get bored of take off and landing.
One flight was cool where we caught a jet stream over the ocean and it cut our flight time because we went so fast. You could almost feel the speed.

a few years ago I was the most scared person on the plane...I was 50 when I started flying....my first flight was 10 hours to cuba....I was frozen with fear , but now, many flights later I love it....don't be scared...it's very very safe....

These engines put out a lot of thrust. You'll hear them spool up...a lag in forward motion....and then they push you down that runway.
Most die of deep vein thrombosis or have retire because of dvts so their careers don't last long enough to become bored. 🙌🙌🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🚶

I had a takeoff quite similar to this in the fact that there were low clouds and it was dark, early in the morning. As we ascended above the clouds, it was just one spectacular moment looking at the wing and the sunrise. One reason why I love flying.

It is steep, maybe the last leg of an intercity shuttle and low take-off weight. There is a lot of thrust. She's climbing fine :-)

For the first like 3 and a half minutes...i thought they was driving home
Malti Moto leider nein. Er selected LNAV um dem Flighdirector auf der SID folgen zu können, und 2x VNAV um es zu selecten und gleich wieder deselecten. Dadurch springt die ausgewählte IAS im ATHR zur nächsten einprogrammierten. 2x VNAV drücken geht also schneller, als die IAS manuell hochzudrehen im MCP.
Hinzu kommt, dass die alte 737 gar nicht richtig nach VNAV fliegen kann. Nur Laterale Navigation ist 100% möglich.
Warum kann ich V1/V2 hören nicht, aber ich kann "Rotate" hören......
张祥群 Du kannst "GO" hören, vor rotate. "Go" bedeutet V1. V2 wird nicht gesagt.

Thrills, I love this point the plane taxis then stalls for some seconds then gradualy goes faster and faster untill your no longer on the tarmac then your climbing forward and upward which feels like a pillow of air, that's my definition!

Sorry if this is a basic stupid question, but prior to take off, how does the pilot find the start of the runway?
He has to get from the passenger terminal to the runway start point, sometimes in the dark/poor weather and maybe at an unfamiliar airport. How does he do it, maps? satnav? follow a guide vehicle? Same question when he lands, how does he know where to go to offload the passengers? There seem to be ground traffic lanes everywhere. Thanks for your patience in reading my question :-)
The runways and taxiways are lined with bright lights. Taxiways have blue lights while runways have white lights. At the start of the runway you see that the 'start line' is lit up with green lights.

You have a chart and you look out the window. The different taxiways are named with letters and sometimes numbers. It's pretty basic. You look at your heading after push, and you look at the chart, and you get your taxi clearance and you go.
Still to the untrained eye it can look like organised chaos when heading in from landing or out to correct runway.
Sign in Here there's a yellow line on the taxi ways if u watch again closely. They lead u to run ways or to the terminals.. If u watch u will see the pilot keep his front wheel as close to this line as possible, an along with painted sings on the tarmac an lights they know where to go, an which run way they are told to use, hope that helps 😉
All the above answers are correct but the real way the pilot finds his way is by following the towers instructions. He has a map of the airport but there could be other planes in certain entry and exit ways, so they must follow the ATC's instructions to the letter to safely get the aircraft from the gate to the runway, and from the runway to the gate each time.

I try to imagine when "v1" and "rotate" are being called in the cockpit when I fly. I love listening to the engines spool up, (my favorite sound was when i flew on L1011's, the rolls Royce engines sounded so sweet)the thrust, the power, flying is incredible!
