- This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/4318M.html. TAS originally published on 2020-10-31.
Kirby's Return to Dreamland is the 12th platforming installment in the series, and the first traditional Kirby platformer released in a decade after Kirby 64. The starship Lor Starcutter crash-lands on planet Popstar, and the extraterrestrial captain Magolor promises Kirby and friends a trip to his homeworld if they will help him find the scattered pieces of his ship in order to rebuild it. Like many Kirby antagonists before him, Magolor's true motives turn out to be nefarious, resulting in the Kirby gang once again fighting to save their galaxy.
Kirby's Return to Dreamland plays like a traditional Kirby game, seeing Kirby platforming through the game's 8 levels and inhaling foes to gain their powers. Elomavi flies through the game at incredible speed using the Wing copy ability's various fast-moving special moves (especially Condor Head). There is also a lot of flapping involved.
The author's commentary for the run is available in all of the encodes of the movie. - Hry
Commentary in the subtitles. YES. I love it when TASes do this. I know they almost always provide a link to a page with the author's commentary on their website, but I've always found those to be a massive pain to read because of how unclearly worded they tend to be. This is so much more understandable and entertaining
Great subtitles, love that shit.
I really like the hummingbird flapping Kirby does
Turn on subtitles for the author's commentary!
I wish they all did that, it's so much more engaging.
Then again, from what I remember of messing with subtitles, I can't blame the ones who choose not to x)
@@VonFirflirch (Good) commentary can take a lot of extra time to provide for a movie so it's understandably rare. I agree though, it's a real treat and more engaging when it's there!
@@VonFirflirch In my opinion, some TASes are not suitable for subtitles commentary, as they may have too much action going on, for the watcher to be able to follow the movie and read at the same time.
Thank you for telling me this was here!
I appreciate the documentary.
It makes the video a lot more enjoiable and interesting
Just like in the Kirby 64 goal game, Kirby has to be sad for the sake of speed.
That game looks so gorgous that it could easily pass off as a Wii U game or even a Switch game, it's easily one of the best looking games on the Wii.
I'm so happy now that we have a full TAS of this game!
8:34 Even when his dialogue is being skipped at the speed of sound, Magolor makes me so happy.
Edit: 1:03:22 ಠ_ಠ
haha wing go *BRRRRT*
Hopefully everyone had a happy Halloween =)
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
One question: has anyone ever tryed a "human" speedrun trying to get the Wing ability on level 1? It might be very effective although grindy
@@antusFireNova Yes, the current WR holder shirokirby goes for that mix on 1-1
@@Elomavi ok thanks :)
@@antusFireNova The mix strat isn't actually as hard as you'd think, because the mix roulette slows down if you let it run long enough. Combine that with some pause buffering techniques (the home screen is used in place of the in-game pause button) and you can get Wing with just some practice (and with a LOT of practice, you can even get it before the roulette slows down)!
Did you have fun screwing around with inputs while waiting for minibosses to spawn in, cutscenes to play through, etc.? I'm always a fan of those moments in any TAS.
YES! I love Wii TAS videos.
What a relentlessly charming game
Who else really wants to see a 100% TAS for this game, given 100% has much more ability variety, loads of cool strats not utilized in any%, energy spear goodness, more item escorting, more copy ability recycling, you get the idea. The differences between any% and 100% is mind blowing, running both categories is almost like running two different games. I can't wait.
Kirby flapping his wings sounds like a two-stroke motorcycle engine.
It's hummingbird Kirby that's so cool hearing the sound from the wings flapping 😊
I forgot i saw this already on the uploaders channel, great tas!
Finally! Wait forever for a TAS for this game!
Return to Dreamland: Hey, check out these awesome new Super Powers!
TAS Kirby: No, I'm a bird.
Haha Wing Kirby go BRRRRRRRRRR
The way kirby got eaten by fatty puffer when it died is really funny
This was a good thing to publish on HALLOWEEN
Kirby's in a costume for most of it!
Name a scarier title on the Wii
@@aplsed well maybe kirby's Dreamland 3 would have been more on point because... You know... The final boss

Yesterday I finished this game for the first time. I loved it
Damn, does the Wing Air Jump look dumb in a TAS. I thought it was some random move I'd somehow missed in the pause menu, for a second x)
4:00
I always thought it was interesting how Canvas Curse/Power Paintbrush has one or two Timed Challenges that do force you to care about avoiding hitlag even at a casual level. For the kind of "entry level" games Kirby tends to star in, it's an odd thing to ask from the player x)
Kirby is great because the main content is fairly entry level, but then getting 100% is like "hey kids, welcome to THE TRUE ARENA"
@@mads_in_zero PLANET ROBOBOT INTENSIFIES OH GOD PLANET ROBOBOT'S ARENA WAS SO FRICKING HARDCORE
One of the memories I had playing this game was speed running The Arena and seeing how fast I could go. My best was around 12 minutes with Bandana Dee
58:08 it translates to TAS, if you're wondering
Wing kirby flying sounds like a gatling gun lmao
Speed of kirb in a game
wing kirby gave me vietnam flashbacks
I honestly thought the preview image for the video said "cool game!"
Wings go brrrrrrrr
What was the Morse code?
i have to ask: is Wheel Kirby not in this game? or it is, but it's slower than Wing Kirby?
It is not in this game, no
Any Differences Between Main and Extra Modes?
Extra mode gives you less health and more difficult bosses and enemies
やはり吸い込みダメキャンするんだな
can't believe u let fatty puffer vore u as it died. such a power move
I am Kirby........... Paul Kirby, from Jurassic Park 3..
