One of my favourite singles. At the time I had a theory that in every decent song someone must scream as though the drummer had just been shot. I present this tune as evidence.
i came here from lemon jelly - the shouty track! and i normally don’t listen to this type of music (closest i get is probably old radiohead), but this is really good!
that's silly. this is good, as are some newer bands & songs, many of which opt for pretty barebones-production aesthetics. fuck outta here with that "back in my day"-ass shit
Thanks for posting this awesome band and song. The 80's was before my time, but its my favorite decade of music I listen to now. I enjoy discovering these obscure bands thanks to You Tube and people like you posting them.
I saw them as support to The Fall in '80 in some sh*thole pub in the wasteland that was the Gorbals. MES was uhappy that they were so good. I saw them a few times live in G. and Edinburgh once I think. Brilliant. Still have this single.
***** Ha ha ha... Love it. I get lots of attempts at the lyric and enjoy the faux pas. Anyway, here it is: Tolchocked a baboochka just a mite too horrorshow, malenky in the rot - 'Waah!' her litso yelled. Millicents they caught me, screaming eyes with pain, droogs betrayed old Alex, will pay them back some day. death sentence - this is the end. Baboochka died that very night, got 14 years in zoo-time, screeched it wasn't Alex's fault - blamed the absent droogs no less. Kicked and clanged in Staja 84F, grazny hell-hole, human zoo, Georgie-boy is dead they said, found outside the biblio, death sentence - this is the end of a dream. 'Get back down there, you scum!' Made friends with the zoo-time Charles told tales and truths on fellow plennies hope to get remission please fooled the governor horrorshow me glazzies me glazzies can't stand the violence take-away the films take-away the Beethoven makes me sick, makes me wretch and vomit they're using Ludovico's technique - 'Alex my boy, just step this way down the corridor, third on the left. We're gonna show you some films, OK?' - 'OK droogs, let's go'.
Robert King Thank you so much Mr. King. Its been difficult trying to get a copy of the lyrics through the internet. I was actually trying to get a copy because one of my ex-teachers uses Clockwork Orange for literature class. It seems that you must have been quite obsessed with the book during the time you folks wrote the song. Do you suppose that the Clockwork Orange has much influence on the Punk/Post-Punk movement?
+Lawry Luminaria I got the lyrics from the songwriter, and the line is ... eep! ... Okay, Droogs. In fact, the whole song is a summary of Clockwork Orange. :)
For all the times I've listened to this I still don't understand half the words he's singing. I can pick up a few references to the Ludovico technique: "Take away the violence [...] makes me sick!" but other than that I barely understand it.
tolchoked a babooskka just a might too horrorshow, malenkey in the rot, wah her litso yelled. Millicentents they caught me screaming eyes with pain. Droogs betrayed 'old Alex'... will pay them back. Death sentence; this is the end...
i'm either hallucinating or the Fall lifted this music in its entirety for some early song? Or...shit it mightve been an old tape of wnur chicago with the fall right subsequent and run together in mine poor head
oNE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED BUT AWESOME SPINE TINGLING RECORDS OF ALL TIME..
One of my favourite singles. At the time I had a theory that in every decent song someone must scream as though the drummer had just been shot. I present this tune as evidence.
4 years later but just to let you know, that's a great comment.
i too still have the single and the fast comp. one of the most wicked guitar lines ever. this song was an instant favorite decades ago...and still is.
first time ive ever heard this song before...WHAT A FUCKING BASSLINE
Edinburgh's finest. Thank-you you lot.
Horrowshow is by far the
BEST song written in nadsat patois. Kudos to the skriking, grahzny malchicks
who made it.
Grazhny news droogie...
I remember staying with my mate Bill Grumpy in Blackpool and playing this 30+ years ago! Brilliant!
Classic track , might have heard it first time in your house W , that Rouch Rumble and Zip Nolan
think being 15 in 1980 and liking this ..i had no chance
no chance....of what?
Thank you so much for uploading this!!! Much appreciated, such a classic!!! :D
Just heard it for the first time and it was a instant like! Love the bass and guitar riff! And great vocals!
i came here from lemon jelly - the shouty track! and i normally don’t listen to this type of music (closest i get is probably old radiohead), but this is really good!
That’s the same reason I’m here.
The production on this track is brilliant. Raw as fudge.
All this has been lost in the digital ear. Era I mean.
No, you got it right the first time. They literally can't listen to this, too authentic for their "ears".
that's silly. this is good, as are some newer bands & songs, many of which opt for pretty barebones-production aesthetics. fuck outta here with that "back in my day"-ass shit
Things recorded directly to a computer generally have a different texture...has nothing to do with back in my day.
Wow, what a past I had this is one of many songs that were Big in my life... Thanks man.....
this could be from any decade a classic and one of my treasured tecords
Thanks for posting this awesome band and song. The 80's was before my time, but its my favorite decade of music I listen to now. I enjoy discovering these obscure bands thanks to You Tube and people like you posting them.
I can see why Craig Scanlon and Steve Hanley of The Fall loved them. Brilliant stuff!!
Mutant pop for sure...love it....fave of mine for yrs.
Leaves me speechless even today. Superb.
So great!

Totally brilliant
Amazing ! Had the album since '81,but never heard the other non album tracks. This is very special indeed.
heard this last in the eighties - massive :-)
ANOTHER MAGNIFICENT LOST PUNK CLASSIC
Great stuff.Definite Fall influence here.
Good call- they definitely share some similarities!
I saw them as support to The Fall in '80 in some sh*thole pub in the wasteland that was the Gorbals. MES was uhappy that they were so good. I saw them a few times live in G. and Edinburgh once I think. Brilliant. Still have this single.
i had a Clockwork Orange poster that a boyfriend stole for me when we saw the film - i had it for years . . .
Northern Soul. Timeless.
scottish
Thank you John peel
Rarely has a guitar ever sounded as magnificent or as threatening !
Have a listen to early U.K.Decay 👍
crikey I so love this
This band was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I heard The Shouty Track by Lemon Jelly first... which I really enjoyed, but this is sick!
Lemon Jelly covered this very well
this single was amazing!! love the B side more tho......
I know they've released Author! Author! on CD, so you could probably get it on MP3 format from there, otherwise I think it'll be very hard to find.
best guitar line. ever.
Danny Ingram ..and the bass is nailed on !
Tune from my youth🐸
Yeah i want the lyrics too! did you ever find them?
check out Saigon-Where Are the Roses? It was a great time for music and many great bands who got little radio exposure at the time in 1979/80/81.
ohh any chance i could have a copy too?!
Man, this is killer.
If you can request this at a dance-party and lay down some funky funky moves to accompany it: you’ll have become the coolest person in human history.
That bass is cool as f***
Lemon Jelly really sampled this off directly. Pretty much the same song in fact!
Edinburgh 'aquarius' with orange juice 1980. gig.
I think theirs is different. It's clever in the ways it uses the samples.
i might give it a shot we ll see
ALTERA HISTORIA DU ROCK
how much drew?
WELL... THIS is DEFFO where Mr Peter Doherty got A LOT of his Babyshambles influences from (imo). Also Horrorshow being a Libertines song!! 🙂❤️
I’m here courtesy of Lemon Jelly.
I'd like to have these lyrics too, please. Is that too much trouble? :)
Makes me want to wear my Dockies (Doc Martens) and dance around to some post-punk and heavy new wave.
In my top 30 tunes of '78.. or was it '79?
Never bettered - shine on
@Del4Mar But "The Shouty Track" DID help to make the Scars popular again, temporarily.
Not on iTunes :(
FUCKING BRILLIANT
Does everything post punk promised and exceeded that promise with a clearly defined aural attack.
Ten years later... Yes!
@@manmaas Thank you XXX
Where can I buy their discography... they should have a bandcamp page and re-release this stuff there
Discogs.
Meaty MES vocal leanings, lets go!
Scars formed in early 1977 and were gigging by that Autumn - they just didn't have a record out until later. The sound was all their own 😊
DISCO!
What year is this? Sounds so freaking fantastic💗💗💗
1979 mate
1:40 owwww my ears...
Does anyone know the lyrics? I recognize some words from the Clockwork Orange, but it'd be nice if someone could provide me with the exact words.
***** Ha ha ha... Love it. I get lots of attempts at the lyric and enjoy the faux pas. Anyway, here it is:
Tolchocked a baboochka just a mite too horrorshow,
malenky in the rot - 'Waah!' her litso yelled.

droogs betrayed old Alex, will pay them back some day.
death sentence - this is the end.
Baboochka died that very night, got 14 years in zoo-time,

death sentence - this is the end of a dream.
'Get back down there, you scum!'
Made friends with the zoo-time Charles
told tales and truths on fellow plennies
hope to get remission please fooled the governor horrorshow
me glazzies me glazzies can't stand the violence
take-away the films take-away the Beethoven
makes me sick, makes me wretch and vomit
they're using Ludovico's technique
- 'Alex my boy, just step this way down the corridor, third on the left. We're gonna show you some films, OK?'
- 'OK droogs, let's go'.
Robert King

Alvaro Ramos I am unsure. I know for me it was important. Me and my friends used to run around Leith (Trainspotting land) dressed as Droogs.
+Robert King Awesome, Robert! No way I would have been able to figure that out myself!
+Robert King Brilliant! Any hope for lyrics to "Adult/ery" online somewhere? I bought this record in Phoenix, Arizona in 1980. Changed my life.
40+ since I heard this in Hurley’s Record Store ,Pontypridd..it’s aged well aye ..just like me 😂
Jesus, used to go there and Rainbow records before I gravitated to Spillers....genius record
There was a bit of a Ponty Scene at tgst point ..Remember Blaue Reiter ?
the guitar sounds similar to the guitar line in Corporal Clegg by Pink Floyd. Great track!
Charlie Davey it reminded me of Robert Fripp
lemon jelley
@iainboltic Made before Author Author and on a different record label. Take a look at my channel for more rare scars stuff.
Okay bill.
+Lawry Luminaria I got the lyrics from the songwriter, and the line is ... eep! ... Okay, Droogs. In fact, the whole song is a summary of Clockwork Orange. :)

1:40 holy fuck
Who else came here because of Lemon Jelly?
this has depth and emotion. lemon jellys use is sterile and formulaic musical wallpaper for cred hungry hipster try hards.
