- My heavily modified Blast Cabinet with Tacoma Company upgrades. This is not a full "how to" just a short video to give you some ideas. Most of these ideas were borrowed from others on the web so I don't claim to be the original source.
I'm looking forward to doing the same upgrades you've done! Great innovation on re-purposing the original grate for the base of the stand.
Nice, neat modification. I like it better than the ones I've seen the "leading" You Tubers post here. Kudos!
No lie all of those upgrades are great! But you are better off buying a 40 pound blaster pot! And wiring it to the inside of the blaster! ! Yes you have to fill it up every few minutes but you wil blast soooo muchhhh quicker! Its. Like alottt more quicker
Those are some serious upgrades! I’ve been looking for the best ideas like this.
Instablaster...
Great work! You have some time in that thing but now its equivalent to a much more expensive unit.
It is a more expensive unit because that upgrade is more than twice the initial cost of the box.
@@bernhardlist9359 Still a better deal. No?

I hope, but have no comparison. It just works well.
Greetings
Very professional job!
OUTSTANDING!!!!
Question, i just added my lower gravity feed but am deciding if i want to put my hoses were you have yours or if want to add a hole next to my stock air hole on the right side. wondering if there is a benefit one over the other. i know you lowed your rack
What size compressor are running. Getting started on my setup. Thanks.
I have a large 5hp, 80 gallon compressor and large diameter air lines which provides plenty of air for continuous blasting without waiting. But, I think you could get satisfactory performance with a smaller compressor, you might just have to wait for the compressor to catch up occasionally. A small portable or pancake style compressor is not going to work really at all. As a side note, you don't need to run super high pressure. I think I turn the regulator down to about 40-50 psi for blasting. More pressure may be slightly faster but it really breaks down the blast media MUCH faster and creates a lot more dust.
Nice job. Question on your air hose setup. I don't see a regulator prior to the foot pedal like in other kits. Did you opt it out? Also, on your hose fittings and hose size, did you stick with the Tacoma recommendation of 3/8" NPT fittings and at least 3/8" ID hose? Just wondering about that T fitting and the lead into the cabinet. Looks like the supply is a regular 3/8" shop hose which I'd guess is 1/4" NPT fitting? I'm going to be doing the upgrades and trying to keep air volume up for the gun performance.
Thanks!
Yes , I would like the answer on this as well
looks factory. those are some convenient mods
Very convenient! What I wonder though is why aren't people painting the inside of the cabinet White? The red walls are ok but dont ya think it would be brighter?
What size are the foot pedal air hose fittings? 1/4npt to what? 1/2 hose?. What size is the hose going to the nozzle? thanks Brian.
The hoses to and from the pedal are both 1/2". The red leader hose is also 1/2". I feed the cabinet with a 1/2" hose an a retractable reel so that I can move the cabinet out of the shop a few feet (into the gravel driveway) to blast when weather permits. Despite all the sealing, there is still some leakage that I prefer to keep out of the shop as much as possible.
@@brianevans1777 thanks...but i'm trying to not reduce/restrict the cfm airflow by using a 1/4npt fitting to 1/2 hose. what size is your fittings? thanks helping me out.
I used a 1/2" threaded to 1/2" barb fitting coming out of the T to the pedal. The pedal from Tacoma already has 1/2" barb fittings on both sides. The leader hose is a pre-assembled unit (Amazon) that already has a 1/2" NPT end on it that will screw directly into the T. For the quick connect fitting, I always use Milton V-Style High Flow fittings for my air tools (available on Amazon). Their quick connect sockets and plugs have MUCH higher air flow than anything else I have tried and make a huge difference with high-demand tools like impact tools. They are available in 1/4" and 3/8" threads so you probably need a 1/2" to 3/8" reducer on the end of the leader to connect the quick connect. There is no restriction anywhere and the cabinet works beautifully.
Great job! Just curious, I see you reused the grate, but was wondering, did you purchase the base from somewhere or did you make it from scratch?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I use the cabinet all the time and it still works great. I made the grate support from some 2x2" angle steel, with the ends cut at a bevel and welded to some some 2" flat bar where it rests against the sides. I don't know how necessary the support grate is since I never tried it with just the mesh. But, mine is very solid and I don't worry about it. Good luck with yours.
Thank you for the info. Although I just admit, I guess I must have misspoken. I was actually referring to the grate that and base that the legs for the sandblaster cabinet are resting on. I was curious as I would like to have my cabinet off the ground a bit. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Really nice
Great work.
Goood work!!!
Well done
What size air compressor are you using ? I'm running into issues with cfm now
Bought one of these units tonight. How much did all of the grades cost you? Great video. Very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
How much did they end up costing you?
Can I get a parts list for the upgrade
nice job. can these cabinets be used for wet soda blasting?
I would like to know as well
Jeffrey Eiford
Yes you can, just find it on CZcams from „Motorcycle repair“ and it is Matthew who sells the plans for it. I followed his plans but used a larger box since I restore V12 engines. Great results, parts look better than new BUT I just purchased and also upgrade a harbour freight type box for just dry „pre“ blasting where changing the media (if dirty) goes much faster and use the vapor blaster just for surface treatment. If you get dirty parts into a vapor blaster it is a mess in the box after just 2 small parts (they don’t show that in their videos). Media change in a vapor blaster is a drag even with Matthews system (external bucket/collector) which is far better than Vapor Honing Tech. Also, don’t expect that vapor blasting will flush and leave a clean part behind ...... any critical engine part needs to be extremely thoroughly rinsed multiple time to get all media out of threads and holes (it will collect there and sink in!)
Hope this helps.
Can u do rims in there? Is it powerful enough to do rims
BJ Putvain im setting up mine for rims. Theres another mod another guy did to be able to use the top to open and close im trying that
Awsome video and Awsome work .. could you provide me the Tacoma model of their parts you used .. thanks
Jeffrey
Sorry I can't find my email/receipt for the parts I bought. From memory, I bought the Deluxe kit (the gun and pedal?), the upgraded sand metering box, an air intake baffle, and the dust collector suction attachment from Tacoma company. The kit came with an air regulator which I didn't mount because I have a wall mounted filter / regulator right at the hose reel that feeds this cabinet. So, I adjust the pressure there. You use less pressure than you'd think. I think (going from memory) I only use 40-60 PSI to make the abrasive last longer and create less dust.
I got two cheap twin-bulb outdoor light fixtures from Amazon and separated them to make the individual lights. The handle was leftover from a Harbor Freight toolbox where I didn't need it.
The Tacoma Comany website is pretty much just a placeholder with zero useful info. You'll have to call Tacoma Company at 509-732-6286 and ask for Mike. He'll hook you up. He is SUPER knowledgeable and a really nice guy but plan a full hour because the man loves to talk blast cabinets! Tacoma company sells their abrasive on Ebay and also Amazon. I bought from Ebay last time since the price was better. I also bought a pair of replacement gloves from the Tacoma company store on Ebay. WAY better than the Harbor freight gloves. HF gloves were always a little small and it your hands are sweaty at all, it was very difficult to get my hands in there.
Hope that helps. I'm still enjoying my cabinet. I really can't think of anything I would have done differently.
@@brianevans1777 thanks Brian for the info .. I'm excited to get started
@@jeffreyeiford2750 tacoma website odd and not available. made my own based on this guys cheap and works great method. he has a link for the parts where he got the idea. czcams.com/video/wFDn6lkKhNw/video.html . $9-12
How much up grade parts from that company
I can't remember it was a couple years ago. Tacoma Company's website sucks but there is contact info. Call and he'll be happy to help you. There are several levels of upgrade kits and all the parts are available separately as well. Just depends on what you want.
@@brianevans1777 i was looking on enay a little yester words
Where did you get the handle for it?
I would like to know as well
Your metering valve looks different
Why didn't you buy a professional one for 900 bucks lol you blew money for a 200 cabinet don't make no since 😅
Why do people create a CZcams channel and then never respond to the comments? Seems kind of rude to me unless they have a legitimate reason, like if they died.
Why not be thankful he took the time to do this and you aren't paying him? Do you think he should forever help everyone for free?
Ya just be grateful he shared this. It was very kind of him to do so and share .
